Abstract

Background/purpose. Managerial leadership of school principals is one of the key factors that determines the quality of education, particularly in improving teachers’ professional competence. Principals are not only responsible as administrators but also as leaders who must be able to plan, organize, implement, and supervise all school activities. This study aims to examine the extent to which the managerial leadership of principals influences teachers’ professional competence in junior high schools in Baubau City. The research focuses on four managerial aspects which are planning, organizing, actuating, and controlling, and their relationship to the improvement of teachers’ professional performance. Materials/methods. The research used a quantitative method with multiple linear regression analysis. The sample consisted of all junior high school principals in Baubau City, selected through a saturated sampling technique. The instrument was a questionnaire that had been tested for validity and reliability to ensure the accuracy of the data. Results. The findings shows that managerial leadership, including planning (β = 0.312; p = 0.004), organizing (β = 0.281; p = 0.007), implementing (β = 0.246; p = 0.021), and supervising (β = 0.271; p = 0.008), positively and significantly affects teachers’ professional competence. The model’s R² value of 0.659 indicates that 65.9 percent of the variation is explained by the principal’s leadership, while 34.1 percent is influenced by other factor. The four managerial functions contribute meaningfully to encouraging teachers to improve their professional performance, which in turn enhances the overall quality of education in schools. Conclusion. The study confirms that principals’ managerial leadership significantly enhances teachers’ professional competence. Through effective planning, organizing, actuating, and controlling, principals provide direction and support that encourage teachers to improve their performance, thereby strengthening the overall quality of education in junior high schools in Baubau City.

Abstract

This bibliometric analysis delves into the literature on hybrid and distance learning within the digital age, examining its evolution, trends, and impact. Through systematic retrieval and analysis of scholarly outputs from 1980 to 2024, key bibliometric metrics, network visualizations, and citation analyses were conducted. The findings reveal a significant transition from traditional to technical research themes over time, reflecting broader societal shifts towards data-driven decision-making. Highly cited works underscore the enduring relevance of foundational concepts and the timely exploration of emergent topics, particularly in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Moreover, future study directions identified through network visualization offer promising avenues for advancing research agendas in education. This analysis provides valuable insights for educators, policymakers, and researchers, informing evidence-based decision-making and fostering interdisciplinary collaborations in educational innovation.

Abstract

Abstract

The rapid development of educational technology has significantly influenced teaching and learning practices, particularly in elementary education. Traditional classroom methods often struggle to engage young learners effectively, leading to reduced attention and participation. This study addresses this issue by exploring the application of Augmented Reality (AR)-based educational technology to increase student engagement in elementary schools. The research aims to investigate the impact of AR tools on students’ cognitive and affective engagement, thereby enhancing their overall learning experience. A quasi-experimental design was adopted for this research, involving 120 students from three different elementary schools. The students were divided into experimental and control groups, with the experimental group using AR applications to supplement their learning activities while the control group used conventional teaching methods. Data were collected through observations, pre- and post-intervention tests, and student interviews to measure engagement levels and academic performance. The results indicated a significant increase in engagement and understanding of the subject matter among students who used AR-based tools compared to those in the control group. Specifically, the experimental group demonstrated a 35% higher engagement rate and a 20% improvement in academic performance. Interviews also revealed that students found AR tools more interactive and motivating. In conclusion, the application of AR-based educational technology has a positive impact on student engagement and learning outcomes in elementary schools. The study recommends integrating AR tools in the curriculum to foster a more engaging and effective learning environment for young learners.
