Abstract

Abstract

The digital era demands digital literacy as an essential skill in education, especially in improving the quality of learning in primary schools. Digital literacy not only includes the technical ability to operate technological devices, but also involves skills in searching, assessing, analysing and using information ethically and responsibly. In the context of learning, digital literacy plays a role in increasing students' interest in reading, vocabulary acquisition and critical thinking skills. However, the challenges in its implementation are still considerable, such as low interest in reading, lack of access to digital resources, and limited teacher competence in utilising educational technology. Therefore, the role of teachers is crucial in guiding students to make optimal use of technology. With the support of the right education policy, digital infrastructure development, and improved teacher competence, digital literacy can be an effective means to form a smart, creative and responsible generation in the digital era. This research uses a literature study method and a qualitative approach to analyse various relevant academic sources related to digital literacy in basic education. The literature study was conducted by reviewing various journals, books and research reports that discuss the role of technology in Indonesian language learning in primary schools. The qualitative approach was used to deeply understand how digital literacy affects students' reading interest, vocabulary acquisition and critical thinking skills. With this method, this study aims to provide a comprehensive picture of the challenges and opportunities in implementing digital literacy in the primary education environment.

Abstract

Indonesian language learning serves as a fundamental foundation for understanding all subjects. The role of the teacher in Indonesian language instruction is central in fostering students' knowledge and language skills, including listening, speaking, reading, and writing. This study aims to examine the efforts of Indonesian language teachers in guiding students in writing explanatory texts in the sixth-grade Indonesian language class at SDN Nalagati and to identify the factors that hinder teachers' efforts in assisting students in writing explanatory texts.  An explanatory text is a type of text that provides an explanation of a particular phenomenon or process, requiring specific skills in its composition and delivery. In this context, teachers play a crucial role in helping students understand the structure of explanatory texts, which consists of the purpose, sequence of explanations, and conclusion. Through appropriate approaches, such as the use of suitable learning media and the application of varied teaching methods, teachers can enhance students' ability to write clear and well-structured explanatory texts.  Based on a variety of literature studies, using diverse teaching approaches has been shown to accelerate students' understanding of explanatory text writing techniques. These methods include using picture series media, process-based approaches, developing animated video media, applying the Contextual Teaching and Learning (CTL) method, implementing the RADEC model, utilizing the cooperative STAD method, and incorporating audiovisual media. Therefore, a teacher’s ability to design and implement interactive learning strategies significantly influences the quality of students' learning outcomes in writing explanatory texts.
