Abstract

This research seeks to determine how the narrative method affects the speaking ability of SMAN 1 SIDAMANIK second-graders. This pre-experimental investigation with a population of thirty students selected groups using random cluster sampling. Before and after therapy, a narrative technique was used to collect data. Before and after the test, students receive instruction. The average score on the pre-test was 48.68, while the average score on the post-test was 54.97. Between the pre-test and post-test, the data indicate an increase. The research shows that the t-test is preferable to the t-table (4,827 > 2,04). The significant difference between the post-test and the pre-test suggests that the narrative method affects students' speaking ability. This demonstrates how a narrative approach can help students develop their public speaking abilities. The speaking component received the highest overall score, followed by syntax and speech, which received the lowest score, according to this research. Therefore, instructional methods must emphasize these elements.

The research aimed to determine the effect of using the English Stories With Level Application as a media for learning vocabulary at seventh grade of SMP Negeri 4 Pematangsiantar. The objective of the study was to find out whether this application could significantly improve students' vocabulary mastery. The research utilized a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental design, which included both a pre-test and post-test. The population consisted of 300 students, from which two classes were selected via cluster random sampling. The experimental group received instruction using English Stories with Level Application, while the control group used conventional media (handbook). Data collection involved administering pre-tests and post-tests to both the experimental and control groups. The descriptive analysis revealed that the mean post-test score for the experimental group was 73.00, while the control group scored 66.50. A paired-sample t-test confirmed a statistically significant difference between the pre-test and post-test scores of the experimental group, with a p-value of 0.000 (p < 0.05), leading to the acceptance of the alternative hypothesis (Ha). This suggested that the use of this application as a media for vocabulary learning was more effective than traditional methods. In conclusion, the research demonstrated that English Stories with Level Application significantly enhanced vocabulary acquisition among seventh grade students.

Abstract

This study investigates the effect of the Cake Application on eighth-grade students’ mastery of action verbs in recount texts at SMP Negeri 12 Pematangsiantar. Motivated by students’ low vocabulary performance, especially in understanding the linguistic features of recount texts as required by the Merdeka Curriculum (Permendikbud No. 5 of 2022), this research employs a quasi-experimental design. Two classes were assigned as control and experimental groups. The experimental class received instruction through the Cake Application, while the control class used conventional media. Pre-test and post-test scores show a significant improvement in the experimental class (from 55.9 to 77.74). Independent t-test results (t = 3.854, p < 0.001) confirm the effectiveness of the treatment. These findings suggest that Cake Application significantly enhances students’ vocabulary mastery, particularly in action verbs relevant to recount texts.

Abstract

The development of digital technology requires teachers to be able to integrate technological, pedagogical, and content knowledge (TPACK) into the learning process. However, many teachers still struggle to understand and apply TPACK optimally, resulting in suboptimal learning quality in the digital era. This community service activity aims to improve teachers' understanding and skills in implementing TPACK through socialization and structured training. The methods used include lectures, discussions, hands-on practice in developing TPACK-based lesson plans, as well as pretest and posttest evaluations. The activity was conducted at SMP Negeri 11 Pematangsiantar in March-April 2025, involving teachers as active participants. Evaluation results showed a significant improvement in teachers' understanding of TPACK concepts and practices, reflected in an average increase in pretest scores from 27.9% to 57.37% on the posttest. Teachers also became more confident in designing technology-based learning and effectively utilizing digital media. This activity demonstrated that TPACK socialization can strengthen teachers' competencies and improve the quality of learning in the digital age. Continuous support and further training are still needed to ensure optimal implementation of TPACK.
