Abstract

Lampung Province is the largest producer of cassava in Indonesia. However, cassava production in Lampung has been declining over the past five years due to many farmers switching to other commodities due to the long harvesting period and unstable prices. This has resulted in a buildup of cassava stem waste, requiring innovation to manage this waste. Hence, the cassava stem chopper (Rabakong) was introduced. Rabakong has been developed by Agricultural Engineering (TEP) students from the University of Lampung, starting from TEP 1, TEP 2, TEP 3, TEP 4, and TEP 5. This research method involves modifying the frame of the previous version, redesigning the components to be modified using AutoCAD software, and then fabricating and collecting data after modification. The latest modified Rabakong machine underwent significant changes in the number of blades, which are fewer but arranged spirally for efficiency in chopping and space-saving. The working capacity has increased to 207 kg/hour at 1400 rpm. Waste material has decreased to 11.39%. Fuel consumption is 2.580 liters/hour. The percentage of finely chopped materials (<0.2 mm) is only 17.19%, while coarsely chopped materials (>0.5 cm) reach 51.41%, indicating that the latest version is more suitable for coarse results.. Keywords: Cassava Stems, Design, Efficiency, Modification.

Abstract

Water is an essential natural resource playing a critical role in human life. Most of the community's needs for drinking water, industry and agricultural irrigation are met from groundwater sources, with agricultural irrigation being the largest user. Central Lampung Regency is dominated by agricultural land and plantations as the main economic sector. Groundwater is a more secure, drought-resistant and easily accessible source, which greatly supports agriculture in this region. This study aims to identify groundwater potential in Central Lampung Regency using remote sensing data and Geographic Information Systems (GIS). Remote sensing applications are employed to assess vegetation density through the Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) algorithm. This parameter is then overlaid with other factors, such as soil type, rainfall, land cover, rock lithology, aquifer productivity, slope, and the Topographic Wetness Index (TWI), resulting in a groundwater potential map. Based on the generated groundwater potential map for Central Lampung Regency, it is found that the distribution of groundwater potential is as follows: 0.03% with very high potential, 6.03% with high potential, 84.11% with moderate potential, 9.77% with low potential, and 0.06% with very low potential. Keywords: Groundwater, GIS, NDVI, Remote Sensing

Abstract

Analysis of land suitability for corn plants is needed to increase production in the development of the agricultural sector. South Lampung Regency is the largest corn producer in Lampung Province with production reaching 598,032 tonnes in 2016. The aim of the study was to determine the potential for land development for corn plants using Landsat 8 OLI/TIRS image interpretation and Geographic Information Systems in South Lampung Regency by assessing the quality of the land and to determine the level of land suitability conditions for corn crops based on planting seasons 1, 2 and 3 in South Lampung Regency. The analysis is carried out by the matching method or by giving a class assessment to each of the required parameters. The results show that the 1st planting season has the greatest level of land suitability compared to the other growing seasons, 73% very suitable to suitable. Meanwhile, Planting Season 2 had the lowest suitability level of 60% due to less stable temperatures due to the transition from rainy to dry seasons. And Planting Season 3 has a moderate suitability level of 66%, because this season the temperature has stabilized for cultivating corn. Keywords: Corn, Geographic Information System, Class Assessment, Land Suitability, Landsat 8 OLI/TIRS Imagery, Matching.

Abstract

Cilembu sweet potato production in Lampung reached 28,494,000 tons/year (2015 statistical data). The selling price of Cilembu sweet potatoes in traditional markets is low, ranging from IDR 4,000 to IDR 10,000/Kg. Therefore, it is necessary to carry out appropriate processing in order to increase the selling price of Cilembu sweet potatoes. One way that can be done is by making Cilembu sweet potatoes into a chips product using a Vacuum Frying fryer. A vacuum fryer is a vacuum fryer which has the advantage of frying fruit and vegetables into crispier chips and maintaining product quality without preservatives. The aim of this research is to analyze the influence of temperature and pressure on the results of frying Cilembu sweet potato chips using a Vacuum Frying fryer and determine the optimal temperature and pressure needed to produce the best quality Cilembu sweet potato chips. The research method used was a factorial Completely Randomized Design (CRD). The experimental factors in this study used two factors, temperature (T), namely 80°C,  85°C,  90°C and pressure (P) -66 cmHg, -68 cmHg, -70 cmHg, with repetition 3 times to produce 27 experimental units. The parameters observed were material weight loss analysis (random), water content, and sensory tests. It can be concluded that the optimal choice of temperature and pressure in operating the Vacuum Frying tool for frying Cilembu sweet potato chips is a temperature of 90°C and a pressure of -68 cmHg. The quality of frying pans with a temperature of 90°C and a pressure of -68 cmHg is included in the best product category in this research based on overall acceptance which has a yield value of 35%, water content of 3.3%, and a color sensory test score of 3.75 (yellow), aroma 2.95 (the aroma of Cilembu sweet potato chips is a bit strong), taste 4.25 (like it), crunchiness 4.2 (crisp). Keywords:  Chips, Cilembu Sweet Potato, Vacuum Frying.

Abstract

The waste problem in Bandar Lampung is becoming increasingly critical as the volume of domestic waste reaches 1,283 tons per day. Ineffective management can lead to negative impacts on public health and the environment, such as the spread of diseases and pollution. This study aims to design and test a household-scale incinerator that is effective, efficient, safe, and low in pollution as an alternative solution for waste management. The designed incinerator is capable of burning 30 kg of waste in 180 minutes, using a fuel mixture of used oil and gasoline amounting to 130 ml. Test results show that the thermal efficiency of the incinerator ranges from 70-75%, with a charcoal yield of 14.42% and an ash yield of 11.53%. The overall efficiency reaches 77.05%, indicating that this device can optimally utilize the energy produced from combustion. This research demonstrates that a household-scale incinerator can be an effective solution for reducing waste volume and minimizing negative impacts on the environment. Recommendations for future research include the development of the incinerator design, evaluation of the temperature control system, and analysis of emissions generated from various types and compositions of waste. Thus, this study makes an important contribution to more environmentally friendly and sustainable waste management in Indonesia. Keywords: Combustion, Development, Design, Incinerator, Waste, Used Oil, Yield.
