Abstract

Palas District is one of the districts with the largest rice field area in South Lampung which has 5.589 hectares of rice fields. With such a large rice field area, Palas District in 2020 recorded a rice production figure of around 53,458 tons with a productivity of 58.84 quintals/hectare. This number could increase if there were no rice fields that failed to harvest due to the flood disaster. In 2017 around 345 ha of rice plantations in six villages, Palas sub-district experienced flooding. The flood event was repeated again in 2019, where 200 hectares of paddy fields were flooded. In the latest incident in February 2021, as many as 298 hectares of rice plantations spread across 7 villages, Palas District, experienced a loss due to flooding. In terms of mitigation, mapping of disaster vulnerability and disaster risk can utilize remote sensing and geography information system (GIS) technology. This study uses overlay and scoring methods with six flood variables, namely rainfall, soil type, land use, land slope, land elevation, river density. The mapping carried out will be validated with actual field conditions. The results showed that 77% (3840.45 Ha) of paddy fields were in the "Very vulnerable" category, 22% (1117.14 Ha) were in the "Vulnerable" category, the "Quite vulnerable" category was 0.068% (3.63 Ha), and the “Not Vulnerable” is 0.0002% (0.0012 Ha).

Abstract

This research aims to design, manufacture and test a parallel type smoker which has an output that can be controlled and has uniform temperature in each smoker cabinet. In this research, design, assembly, testing and temperature regulation were carried out. This parallel type smoker has 3 main parts, namely the combustion stove, inlet pipe, and smoking cupboard. In the inlet pipe there is a faucet which functions as a control for the smoke output and temperature from the combustion stove to the smoking cupboard. In terms of testing, this tool was tested in several stages, namely trial 1, trial 2, and performance test. After the test is complete, the final stage is carried out, namely equalizing the temperature in each cupboard. The trial phase 1 was carried out with treatment on the operation of the smoke cupboard. Where the stages of operation of all cupboards are carried out simultaneously, then operation of 2 cupboards is carried out and one path is closed alternately. The results showed that the tool experienced problems in the form of unstable temperatures and leaks in the smoker cupboard, so it required patching with silicon. After design improvements have been made, trial 2 and performance testing are continued. Trial 2 was carried out to find out whether the tool still had problems or not before carrying out a performance test. The treatment for trial 2 was the same as that given during trial 1. As a result, the device had no leaks and the temperature was stable and the device was ready to operate at the 15th minute. After that, a performance test was carried out which had the same stages as trials 1 and 2. This is intended to see whether the tool is in accordance with the results during testing or not. After the performance test is carried out, the final stage is to equalize the temperature in each cupboard to produce the same and stable temperature. This equalization is done by adjusting the opening of the faucet valve on the inlet pipe. The results obtained were a parallel type smoker which had 3 smoking cabinets with the same temperature around 37oC. This temperature can used for low smoking temperature. Keywords: Design of Smoker, Parallel, Temperature.

Abstract

The aim of this research were to analyze the  RPM effect on the Petokong Type TEP 1 cutting capacity. The tools used include TEP-1 Type Cassava Stem Cutter, tachometer, stopwatch, 1000 ml measuring cylinder, 3.4 and 6 inch pulleys. The amount of bait used in this study was 2, 3, 4 cassava stalks. Revolutions per Minute (RPM) modification is done by using different pulley diameters. Pulleys with a diameter of 3 inches produce 3500 RPM, a diameter of 4 inches produces 2625 RPM, and a diameter of 6 inches produces 1750 RPM. Parameters observed in this study included working capacity, fuel consumption, and seed size uniformity. The best working capacity is owned by the B2R1 treatment combination of 9,900 seedlings/hour with the feed amount of 3 cassava stalks and 3500 RPM, while the lowest capacity is 6,000 seeds/hour produced in the B1R3 treatment with the feed amount of 2 cassava stems and 1750 RPM. Measuring fuel consumption is necessary using methods that are accurate and of long duration. In this study, the measurement of fuel consumption only lasted for 2 minutes using the method of adding fuel volume. This will cause a high error in the calculation. The use of Petokong produces a uniformity of above 95% which causes low seedling damage due to cutting. Keywords: Cassava Seeds, Cultivation of cassava, Lampung, Cutting machine, Pulley

Abstract

Way Tenong Subdistrict is located in West Lampung Regency with an area of ± 11,700 Ha, with relatively unstable soil types and wavy and hilly terrain, making Way Tenong Subdistrict risk to threats from soil activity such as landslides. In 2022 there was a landslide in Way Tenong District which caused damage and fatalities. Because of this situation, some experiment is needed to determine the points that have the potential to experience landslides and the factors that are most dominant in the occurrence of landslides in Way Tenong District, called mapping by utilizing the Geographic Information System (GIS) and Landsat Imagery. The method used in this study is the overlay method (Union) with six parameters, namely slope, soil type. In this study the scores for each class of parameters were added up using a field calculator on the attribute, so that landslide intervals were produced which were divided into five landslide hazard classes, namely not prone, low vulnerability, moderate vulnerability, prone and very vulnerable. From the results of the study it was found that Way Tenong District only had four levels of landslide vulnerability, namely low vulnerability of 176 Ha or 1.50%, medium vulnerability of 5,537 Ha or 47.10%, vulnerability of 4,448 Ha or 37.83% and very vulnerable area of 1,596 Ha or 13.57%, and it can be seen that the dominant factor in the occurrence of landslides in Way Tenong District, West Lampung Regency, is the type of soil. Keywords:  Mapping, Geographic Information System (GIS), Landsat Imagery, Overlay

Abstract

Indonesia is one of the countries where the majority of the population are farmers, and rice is the main commodity. While rice drying is an important factor, the current climate and weather changes are an obstacle for farmers in the drying process. Rice with high moisture content is not safe for storage as it is susceptible to mold attack and deterioration. The purpose of this research was to study the effect of the level of inclination of the plastic position on the decrease in rice moisture content and the level of loss. The results of observations of the weather index for 4 days show that the intensity of the sun reaching the earth varies every hour. The parameters measured rice weights of 250 grams, 500 grams, and 750 grams showed that at a slope of 30 ° had the lowest moisture content and the highest rate of rice loss was in rice weights of 250 grams with a slope of 0 ° at 62% while the lowest rate of rice loss was in rice weights of 750 grams with a slope of 0 ° at 19%.   Keywords: Rice, Drying, Moisture Content Rice Weight, Slope.

Abstract

Cassava production not only produces tubers, but also produces waste, one of which is cassava stems. So far, the waste of cassava stems has not been widely used by farmers, so that after the cassava is harvested, the cassava stems are just left lying on the ground. This study aims to reduce cassava stem waste through size reduction using a cassava stem chopper (Rabakong) with variations in engine speed per minute (RPM).This research was carried out at the Agricultural Equipment and Machinery Power Laboratory, Department of Agricultural Engineering, Faculty of Agriculture, University of Lampung in May - June 2023. The treatment used 3 variations of RPM namely 800, 1000, and 1400 where each used 3 different amounts of input, and each RPM was repeated 3 times. The number of inputs used is the input of 3 sticks, 4 sticks, and 5 sticks. The results showed that chopping using the RPM setting of 1400 and the input amount of 4 cassava sticks had the best working capacity with a value of 194.448 kg/hour. Lowest fuel consumption by using the RPM setting of 800 and the number of inputs of 3 sticks with a value of 1,073 liters/hour. Keywords:  Cassava Stems, Input, Rabakong, RPM.

Abstract

Before planting, generally the seed is sowed in polybag that made of plastic (on organic).  For excessive use of polybag it can damage the environmental.  To prevent more severe environmental damage, it is necessary to find a safe way for the sustainability of environmental quality, that is by using organic materials. There are many organic materials can be used for seedling pots.  Two of them are cassava stem waste and Oil Palm Empty Fruit Bunches (OPEFB). OPEFB can increase strength and stiffness of wall of the pots (organic seedling pots).  To glue cassava stem waste and OPEFB then add enough adhesive material.  This research was held in October to December 2019 at Laboratory of Power and Agricultural Machinery and Laboratory of Land and Water Resources Engineering, Department of Agriculture Engineering, Faculty of Agriculture, University of Lampung.  The method of this research is Completely Randomized Design, with composition of ingredients cassava stem and OPEFB that consist 6 levels; P1 is 70% cassava stem and 30% OPEFB, P2 is 60% cassava stem and 40% OPEFB, P3 is 50% cassava stem and 50% OPEFB, P4 is 40% cassava stem and 60% OPEFB, and P5 is 30% cassava stem and 70% OPEFB. The result of this research showed that characteristic of test about moisture, density, impact resistance index, and water absorption had significant on combination of mixed materials.  For crops test with green lettuce, the result showed that height of crop, number of leaves, and root length were not significant on combination of mixed materials.  The best result of organic seedling pots in this research is on treatments of P3; 50% cassava stem and 50% OPEFB, with moisture is 11,46%, density is 0,28 g/cm3, impact resistance index is 98,04%, and water absorption capacity is 128,2 %.  Keywords:  Cassava Stem Waste, Characteristic Test, Crops Test, OPEFB waste, and Organic Seedling Pots.
