Abstract

Purpose of the study: This study analyzes the direct and indirect effects of instructional supervision by the head of madrasah, organizational culture, and self-discipline on the performance of Madrasah Aliyah teachers in Gayo Lues Regency. Methodology: Using a quantitative approach with a causal model and involving 84 teachers selected through the Krejcie–Morgan sampling technique, this research employs path analysis to examine the structural relationships among the variables. Main Findings: The findings indicate that organizational culture has the strongest influence on teachers’ self-discipline (ρ = 0.436), while instructional supervision exerts a smaller but positive effect (ρ = 0.132). Teacher performance is significantly affected by instructional supervision (ρ = 0.597), organizational culture (ρ = 0.408), and self-discipline (ρ = 0.324). Although instructional supervision and organizational culture also influence teacher performance indirectly through self-discipline, these mediating effects are relatively small—0.044 and 0.132 respectively. The model fit analysis confirms that the proposed causal structure aligns well with the empirical data. This study contributes to educational management literature by offering a comprehensive model integrating supervision, culture, and self-discipline, and by establishing self-discipline as a partial mediator between organizational culture and teacher performance. Novelty/Originality of this study: The findings highlight the importance of strengthening supervisory practices, cultivating a positive organizational culture, and enhancing teacher discipline to improve professional performance in madrasahs. Overall, the study provides empirical evidence that can support the development of strategic policies to enhance teacher quality and accountability in Islamic educational institutions.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze student management in Islamic boarding schools through a multisite study to obtain a comprehensive understanding of student management practices. A qualitative approach with a multisite study design was employed. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, participant observation, and document analysis, and were analyzed using cross-site analysis techniques. The findings reveal that student management is implemented through an integrated twenty-four-hour residential guidance system that emphasizes character development, discipline, strengthening religious practices, and a balanced integration of religious and formal education. Student management encompasses planning, orientation and adaptation, guidance, supervision, student services, administrative management, and continuous evaluation of student development, thereby supporting a holistic educational process. These findings demonstrate that student management extends beyond dormitory administration and functions as a comprehensive educational system that promotes students' academic, spiritual, and personal development. The study underscores the need to develop an adaptive, measurable, and value-based student management model to serve as a reference for strengthening student development systems in Islamic boarding schools across diverse educational contexts.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the role of the guidance and counseling teacher in supporting the development of emotional maturity among Grade XI students at MAN 1 Medan. This research employed a descriptive qualitative approach involving one guidance and counseling teacher as the main informant and two Grade XI students as supporting informants selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews, observation, and documentation, and were analyzed through data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. Data trustworthiness was strengthened through source and technique triangulation. The findings indicate that some students’ emotional maturity was still developing, as reflected in irritability, difficulty controlling anger, anxiety when facing academic pressure, and strong influence from peers and family conditions. The guidance and counseling teacher supported students through classroom guidance, information services, group guidance, individual counseling, and an empathetic personal approach. These services helped students recognize their emotions, calm themselves, consider their responses before acting, and become more open in expressing personal problems. The findings suggest that guidance and counseling services can serve as a practical school-based support strategy for gradually and contextually developing students’ emotional maturity.

Abstract

This study examines the communication governance of Islamic religious extension in multiethnic urban communities in Asahan Regency using the POAC framework. A qualitative case study was conducted with seven informants, including Islamic religious extension officers, Ministry of Religious Affairs officials, religious leaders, and community members from different ethnic backgrounds. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews, participatory observation, and documentation, then analyzed thematically. The findings show that planning involved adaptive audience mapping, issue-based message selection, and multichannel media use, although written communication plans remained limited. Organizing was reflected in coordination among extension officers and collaboration with religious leaders, educational institutions, and local government. Actuating combined interpersonal, group, and digital communication to reach diverse audiences. Controlling was the weakest function because evaluation still relied mainly on activity reports and informal feedback rather than standardized indicators. This study positions religious extension officers as communication managers, not merely message transmitters. It recommends a more structured, documented, and evaluative communication governance system for Islamic religious extension in multiethnic urban communities.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the process of institutional innovation in transforming an Islamic university into a world-class institution through the integration of Islamization, digitalization, and internationalization. A qualitative approach with a naturalistic case study design was employed at an Islamic university. Data were collected through observation, semi-structured interviews, and document analysis, and subsequently analyzed using an interactive model comprising data condensation, data display, and conclusion drawing and verification. The findings indicate that institutional innovation is a continuous governance transformation process built upon three interacting pillars. Islamization, through the Wahdatul 'Ulum paradigm, strengthens epistemological integration and establishes academic and institutional identity. Digitalization drives governance modernization, enhances academic services, and facilitates data-driven decision-making. Meanwhile, internationalization bolsters institutional capacity through the development of networks and sustained global academic collaborations. These three dimensions operate synergistically, supported by transformational leadership, quality assurance systems, human resource development, and integrated governance. The study concludes that transforming into a world-class Islamic university requires balancing Islamic identity, technological innovation, and global engagement. It contributes an integrated institutional transformation model and offers strategic implications for enhancing the competitiveness and academic excellence of Islamic higher education institutions.

Abstract

Bullying remains a major challenge in school environments because it negatively affects students' social, emotional, and academic development. This study aimed to develop the Japanese traditional game media Budhi Dharma as a group guidance medium to prevent bullying behavior among students at SMP Negeri 2 Hinai. The study employed a Research and Development approach using the ADDIE model, which consists of the stages of Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation. The participants were 10 students selected through purposive sampling based on recommendations from the school counselor. Data were collected through expert validation questionnaires, student response questionnaires, observations, documentation, and pretest–posttest instruments. Data were analyzed using descriptive percentage analysis and a paired sample t-test to examine the effectiveness of the developed media. The findings revealed that the Budhi Dharma game media was categorized as highly feasible, obtaining a score of 90% from the material expert and 86% from the media expert. Students also provided highly positive responses, with an overall score of 88%, indicating high levels of participation, enthusiasm, collaboration, and understanding during group guidance activities. Furthermore, the effectiveness test showed a significant improvement in students' anti-bullying understanding and attitudes, with the mean score increasing from 61.80 (pretest) to 87.60 (posttest). The paired sample t-test yielded Sig. (2-tailed) = 0.001 (p < 0.05), confirming a statistically significant difference between pretest and posttest scores. These findings indicate that the Budhi Dharma traditional game media is valid, practical, and effective for supporting group guidance services in preventing bullying behavior. The novelty of this research lies in integrating a Japanese traditional game into structured group guidance services, combining cultural values with collaborative learning to strengthen empathy, communication skills, cooperation, emotional regulation, and anti-bullying attitudes among junior high school students.
