Abstract

This study aims to develop a playdough treasure hunt game medium that is feasible for use in learning activities to train the fine motor skills of children with intellectual disabilities, as well as to determine students’ and teachers’ responses to the developed medium. This study employed a Research and Development (R&D) method using the 4D model, which consists of the define, design, develop, and disseminate stages. The research subjects consisted of four third-grade students with mild intellectual disabilities at SLBN Syach Abdurrauf. Data were collected through questionnaires and observation. The data were analyzed using percentage techniques to determine the feasibility level of the medium. The results showed that the playdough treasure hunt game medium was categorized as highly feasible based on the validation results from material experts and media experts. In addition, students’ responses to the use of the medium were categorized as good, as indicated by their interest, active participation, and enthusiasm during the learning activities. Teachers’ responses were also categorized as very good, indicating that the medium was easy to use and appropriate to the learning needs. Therefore, the playdough treasure hunt game medium can be used as an alternative learning medium to support activities for training the fine motor skills of children with intellectual disabilities through enjoyable and concrete activities.

This research employed the Research and Development (R&D) method using the 4D model, which includes define, design, develop, and disseminate stages. The subjects involved were one material expert, one media expert, one counseling teacher, and eight seventh-grade students at SMPN 24 Medan. Data collection techniques included material expert validation questionnaires, media expert validation questionnaires, counseling teacher response questionnaires, and student response questionnaires. Data were analyzed using descriptive quantitative analysis by calculating product feasibility percentages. The results showed that the material expert validation score was 95% and media expert validation was 86%, both categorized as very feasible. The counseling teacher response score was 86%, while student responses reached 89.75%, both categorized as strongly agree. Based on these findings, the developed educational congklak game media is considered feasible, practical, and suitable for use in group guidance services to support students’ positive thinking.

Abstract

This study examines the implementation of Islamic guidance and counseling services and their perceived contribution to mental health indicators among foster children at the Al Washliyah Orphanage in Medan. A descriptive qualitative approach was employed, with participants purposively selected from the head of the orphanage, caregivers, and twelfth-grade foster children involved in the institution’s guidance activities. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observations of guidance practices, and documentation of institutional programs and activities. The data were analyzed through reduction, meaning-based categorization, thematic presentation, and conclusion drawing. The findings indicate that the services were implemented through the identification of children’s conditions, guidance planning, individual and group interventions, evaluation and follow-up, and the reinforcement of independence. The habituation of religious practices and caregiver role modeling primarily created a supportive spiritual environment, whereas structured counseling was characterized by explicit guidance objectives, personal communication, group sessions, developmental monitoring, and follow-up actions. According to the participants’ experiences, these services contributed to perceived calmness, emotional stability, adaptation, openness in communicating personal problems, and improved emotional regulation. These findings are context-specific and represent observable mental health indicators derived from participants’ accounts rather than clinically measured psychological changes.
