Abstract

This study examined the role and actions of the Chinese Muslim community in Surabaya, East Java, Indonesia, embodied through an organization called the Indonesian Chinese Islamic Association and the Haji Muhammad Cheng Hoo Indonesia Foundation. Through these two organizations, Chinese Muslims demonstrated anti-mainstream Islamic expressions. They did not so reveal Islamic style, which entirely dominated in rituals and ceremonials. Still, they articulated Islam through social movements to adapt and gain legitimacy from the local Muslims and attract non-Muslim Chinese sympathies on Islam. Based on a qualitative approach, this study found out that by maintaining cultural identity as Chinese, this community ensured that being a good Muslim was not in binary opposition by being authentic Chinese. The experience of the Chinese Muslim community in Surabaya determined that theology was not only a religious issue but also a social problem. Chinese Muslim social theology in Surabaya is an expression of cosmopolitan Islam and successfully well integrated with an inclusive Chinese identity. Social theology demonstrated two dimensions dialectically-integral, the harmonious fusion of Islamic inclusivism and active participation in overcoming various social problems

Abstract

Religion has two inherent characteristics. It will be transcendent if it is expressed as servitude to God. However, it becomes profane when articulated into fellow human beings' lives. Thus, religion cannot be separated from the influence of the culture in which humans exist. Through an intercultural theological approach, this study intends to show the thoughts of Kiai Hashim Asyari, who can integrate Sunni theological discourses relevant to Indonesian society's culture without reducing the fundamental values of faith. This study argues that Kiai Hashim's view of theological discourse can be introduced as the idea of "local theology." Adopting the historical research method of critical thinking and the approach of intercultural studies revealed that the concept of intercultural theology in Kiai Hashim's thought is a strategy to contextualize Islam. Its relevance in Indonesia, Islamic theology has been successfully articulated not only limited to ritual sacraments but also appreciative of local elements, as well as contributing to developing a spirit of nationalism. The style of theology shown by Kiai Hashim can be seen as genuine, bearing in mind that theological discourse tends to be exclusive, which must follow its origins complete with cultural and social settings without considering the existing local character. With this religious style, its adherents can be contextual and relevant.

Abstract

This study explores moderate Islamic theology with a focus on applying the concept of intellectual humility by Kiai Haji Sholeh Bahruddin. Intellectual humility is a humble attitude that acknowledges human knowledge's limitations. The purpose of this study is to explore how the principle of intellectual humility can influence Kiai Haji Sholeh Bahruddin's view of religion and society, as well as its positive impact from a positive psychology perspective. The research method used is a qualitative approach with a phenomenological approach. Data were obtained through in-depth interviews with Kiai Haji Sholeh Bahruddin, as well as analysis of documents related to his views on moderate Islamic theology. Data analysis was carried out in the following steps: first, identifying the beliefs and values of moderate Islamic theology as applied by Kiai Haji Sholeh Bahruddin; second, describing how intellectual humility is reflected in the approach and views of Kiai Haji Sholeh Bahruddin; third, analyze the positive impact of the application of intellectual humility in forming an inter-religious dialogue, tolerance, and harmonious relations in society. The results of this study reveal that Kiai Haji Sholeh Bahruddin applies intellectual humility in his interpretation and communication of Islamic teachings, which opens up space for more open interreligious dialogue and acceptance of different views. This research aims to support the importance of a moderate approach to religion and show that intellectual humility can be an important instrument in building an inclusive and harmonious society.

Abstract

Semenjak abad pertama sejarah Islam hingga saat ini, seringkali terjadi konflik dan pertikaian antar pemeluknya. Akar konflik tersebut tak hanya berasal dari perbedaan cara pandang keagamaan, namun juga berakar dari ketidakadilan sosial dan perbedaan pandangan politik. Di antara kelompok Islam era awal yang sering diklaim sebagai tunas radikalisme Islam adalah kelompok khawarij. Kelompok ini yang berhasil mendesain perbedaan politik menjadi perbedaan yang bernuansa konflik keagamaan. Artikel ini mendiskusikan tentang ketersambungan ideologi Khawarij dengan Gerakan Islam kontemporer yang jamak menjadikan aksi intoleransi, radikalisme dan terorisme sebagai “cara berislam yang benar”. Dengan menggunakan pendekatan sejarah kritis yang berupaya mengulik ideologi kelompok radikal yang eksis hari ini, riset ini menyimpulkan bahwa kelompok teroris dan gerakan radikal di Indonesia memiliki kesamaan ideologi dengan kelompok khawarij. Doktrin kelompok khawarij yang diwarisi oleh jaringan kelompok teroris, antara lain: takfirisme, jihadisme dan khilafah. Tridoktrin inilah yang menjadi lokomotif ajaran Islam pada beberapa kelompok yang dengan sengaja diajarkan dan diidoktrinasikan oleh ideolog masing-masing kelompok. Sebagaimana paradigma khawarij, kelompok radikal beranggapan bahwa tidak ada konstitusi di dunia yang sah dan legal untuk ditegakkan kecuali yang bersumber dari hukum Tuhan.

Abstract

Indonesia has a federation organization that brings together several Islamic organizations. This organization is known as the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI). One of his duties is to issue Islamic legal fatwas to serve as guidelines for the Muslim community. However, on a practical level, quite a few fatwas give rise to polemics. In several cases of intolerance and mobilization of political interests, MUI fatwas are often used as a means of legitimation. This article wants to discuss the contestation of the MUI fatwa with the dynamics of Islamic thought in Indonesia in the context of the digital era. Data was obtained from online news documents regarding MUI fatwas in several cases with social problems. This research found that the MUI fatwa polemic arose due to the need to consider Indonesia's social setting and political conditions. Hence, Islamic law products were prone to being misused and misunderstood. This study also argues that the MUI authorities must package the fatwa by prioritizing cultural diversity, social impacts, and political tensions at that time. Thus, the MUI fatwa must be formulated apart from being based on scientific grounds and supported by good online media infrastructure. So they will be better able to contest with the new religious authority in the post-truth era. Good fatwa packaging via social media is also oriented towards finding substantial values in responding to community problems based on the principle of uniting the community (tauhid al-ummah) and protecting the community (himayat al-ummah).

Abstract

Kajian ini berupaya melihat dan menemukan transformasi Islam di Kesultanan Banjar sebelum dan sesudah kehadiran Syekh Muhammad Arsyad al-Banjari datang. Tujuannya adalah untuk melihat dan menemukan bagaimana historiografi kontribusi al-Banjari dalam proses transformasi Islam di Kesultanan Banjar. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah kualitatif dengan pendekatan historiografi dan analisis data secara deskriptif analitik. Hasil kajian ditemukan bahwa sebelum kedatangan al-Banjari, Islam di Kesultanan Banjar dipengaruhi oleh kepercayaan animisme dan sinkretisme budaya lokal yang bercampur dengan ajaran Hindu dan Buddha. Namun, setelah kedatangan al-Banjari, membawa perubahan penting dalam reformasi keagamaan di Kesultanan Banjar. Dengan mendirikan Mahkamah Syariah dan memperkenalkan hukum Islam yang tegas, al-Banjari menanggulangi praktik keagamaan menyimpang dan memperkenalkan ajaran Islam yang lebih ortodoks. Melalui dakwah, tulisan kitab, dan pendirian lembaga pendidikan, ia memberikan pemahaman Islam yang mendalam kepada masyarakat. Kritiknya terhadap ritual lokal seperti manyanggar banua dan mambuang pasilih mencerminkan komitmennya untuk membersihkan masyarakat dari praktik yang menyimpang dan menjadikan Islam lebih murni di Kesultanan Banjar. Abstract

This research aims to examine several problems including actualization of the formation of mutual cooperation dimensions in Learning Islamic Religious Education and Character at the Darut Taqwa High School Driving School, Purwosari Pasuruan and analysis of the results of the formation of the mutual cooperation dimension in Learning Islamic Religious Education and Character at the Darut Taqwa Purwosari Pasuruan Driving School. This research is included in the type of field research using a qualitative descriptive approach. This research shows the results that (1) The actualization of the formation of the mutual cooperation dimension in learning Islamic Religious Education and Character at the Darut Taqwa High School Driving School, Purwosari Pasuruan, can be divided into three elements. First, the collaboration element is learning using cooperative learning models and positive habituation learning activities. Second, the element of care is concern in the process of completing group assignments, community service project activities, extracurricular activities, peer tutoring activities, cleaning classes and the school environment. Third, the sharing element is sharing knowledge by having the same answer in cooperative learning, social fund contributions for those in need, and sharing food after being visited by their parents. (2) The results of the formation of the dimension of mutual cooperation in learning Islamic Religious Education and Character at the Darut Taqwa High School Driving School, Purwosari Pasuruan is being able to develop character, being able to improve social skills, and having an attitude of solidarity and unity.

Abstract

This study proposes Techno-Humanistic Learning (THL) as a new paradigm of humanistic digital pedagogy in Islamic education. Its main objective is to explore how digital learning can be implemented while maintaining a human-centred approach. Using a systematic literature review of 39 articles from international databases, the study identified three key findings. Firstly, the THL Framework presents an operational map for humanistic digital learning based on Islamic values. This includes the roles of teachers and their pedagogical attitudes, as well as technology integration. Secondly, the THL principles emphasise integrating the cognitive, affective and psychomotor domains with 21^(st)-century skills, digital ethics and universal human values. Thirdly, THL Transformation explains the shift in the teacher–student relationship towards greater collaboration and technology-based reflection, as well as the strengthening of digital literacy based on spirituality and morality. This research confirms that THL is not just a concept, but can be applied to digital Islamic education policy in Indonesia, particularly in curriculum development, strengthening teacher competencies, and humanistic digital literacy regulations. Thus, THL contributes to a new direction for Islamic education that is more inclusive, fair, human-oriented and relevant to the challenges of the digital era.

Abstract

The lack of communication between the education office and the ministry of religion in the implementation of Diniyah Takmiliyah education which has led to the emergence of new Diniyah Takmiliyah institutions, resulting in overlapping, and the low participation of parents in involving their children in Diniyah Takmiliyah education are some of the problems in the implementation of the Diniyah Takmiliyah integration policy with formal educational institutions. The objective of this research is to analyze and formulate the way of regency government in building the coalition with the executive parties of the policies of Diniyah Takmiliyah integration with formal educational institution in Sumenep and Pasuruan Regency and in building coalitions that lead to communication strategies so that research results can describe solutions to existing problems. This research is qualitative research with an institutional approach and an actor approach. The data collection technique used is document review, observation, and interviews, while the data analysis is done through several stages: data reduction, data presentation, and conclusions. The research results show that the method of building coalitions can be done in two ways. They are anticipatory and responsive. The findings of these two strategies are discussed further in the research. Furthermore, this research recommends effectiveness or factorial analysis to provide validation of the findings of this research.

Abstract

Etos kerja berperan penting sebagai pendorong produksivitas dalam bekerja dan kualitas kinerja seseorang. Rendahnya etos kerja berdampak pada rendahnya kualitas kinerja. Terjadinya penyelewengan dalam pekerjaan merupakan dampak rendahnya etos kerja. Misalnya kasus korupsi yang hingga kini memiliki angka pelaporan yang cukup tinggi. Etos kerja rendah juga berdampak pada pola hidup. Misalnya masih maraknya pengemis dengan kondisi fisik layak bekerja. Problem ini mendorong dilakukannya penelitian yang bertujuan untuk menganalisis etos kerja Muslim perspektif HR. Ibnu Majah No. 4168. Jenis penelitian yang digunakan adalah penelitian kepustakaan. Sehingga sumber utama maupun sekunder penelitian berupa karya tulis yang berhubungan dengan topik penelitian. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan prosedur analisis Miles dan Huberman yang mencakup reduksi data, display data, dan pengambilan kesimpulan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa etos kerja yang termuat dalam kandungan HR. Ibnu Majah No. 4168 terdiri dari tekad kuat atau tekun dalam bekerja, menghadapi musibah dengan penuh kesabaran, berpikir kritis terhadap segala hal yang terjadi dalam kehidupan, bekerja secara mandiri (tidak meminta-minta), bersungguh-sungguh dalam bekerja, dan mempercayai takdir Allah Swt dalam setiap langkah. Secara garis besar, prinsip utama yang menjadi bingkai etos kerja dalam perspektif hadith ini adalah iman dan takwa.
