Abstract

AbstractBackground: Deaths due to TB are still a public health problem today. Monitoring tuberculosis treatment outcomes and examining factors that influence these outcomes is important for evaluation and feedback on national TB control programs. So this research aims to determine the risk factors that influence the survival of TB patients. Method: This study used a Systematic review. The data sources used are Science Direct and PubMed databases published in 2019 – 2023. The research article found 1,420 articles, filtering the abstracts according to the desired research topic, and ensuring that the articles can be accessed in full-text form, resulting in 14 studies that meet the criteria. Results: The results of this study showed that the factors that had the greatest influence on TB patient survival were age and HIV status, in 7 of 14 studies. Meanwhile, a third of the studies reviewed found that TB classification, TB anatomical location, gender, race/ethnicity, and history of DM are factors associated with TB patient survival. Conclusion: The most common variables associated with the survival of TB are age and HIV status. These conditions describe the increasing age and decreased immunity that can affect the survival of TB patients. Keywords: Mortality, Risk factors, Survival, Tuberculosis AbstrakLatar belakang: Kematian akibat TB masih menjadi masalah kesehatan masyarakat hingga saat ini. Abstract

A disaster situation is an event or event that has the potential to cause damage to environmental facilities and infrastructure, such as the provision of clean water and sanitation conditions. Diseases that have the potential to occur in such conditions are diarrheal diseases and infectious diseases that are transmitted through the 'fecal-oral route'. The purpose of this research is the analysis of community empowerment regarding environmental sanitation in flood-prone areas in Jorong Aia Taganang, Galanggang Tangah, Kenagarian Salayo, Solok Regency. The research was carried out with a qualitative approach, with a descriptive approach. , with in-depth interviews (in-depth interview) Research results in Almost all respondents said that environmental health problems are important to be available, but some say, clean water is necessary to clean, while disposal of feces is a problem, just defecate in heavy water, carry on defecating it. Meanwhile, trash is washed away when the flood comes. Suggestions are requested for the Solok Regency Government to socialize the importance of Sanitation during a Disaster. Abstract

This activity aimed to improve the quality of life and public health post-disaster through an integrated approach in health and disaster management. The service was conducted from September 21 to November 13, 2024, using methods of included socialization, simulations, and education using pre-test and post-test approaches to measure intervention effectiveness. Activities were carried out in the form of disaster mitigation counseling for elementary school students involving 200 students, maggot-based waste management training with more 30 participants, healthy lifestyle education for the elderly through the GERMAS program, and nutrition education for parents to prevent stunting with more than 20 participants. The results showed an increase in community understanding of disaster mitigation, with the average pre-test score rising from 58,4 to 82,7 in the post-test. The community demonstrated a better understanding of the importance of waste management to prevent environmental pollution, awareness of early hypertension detection, and fulfillment of balanced nutrition to prevent stunting. Active participation in simulations, Q&A sessions, and discussions serves as indicators of the activity success. It can be concluded that this community service program successfully enhanced the knowledge and awareness of the Pandai Sikek community regarding health and disaster preparedness. The sustainability of this program requires support through collaboration with local governments, educational institutions, and community groups to expand its positive impact. It is recommended to actively involve younger generations and strengthen implementation monitoring to optimize and sustain the program's outcomes.

Abstract

Adolescent smoking behavior remains a significant public health issue, contributing to the increased risk of non-communicable diseases and reduced quality of life. Schools play a strategic role as a locus for educational interventions in smoking prevention. This community service activity aimed to enhance the knowledge and awareness of students at SIMA Junior High School, Padang, regarding the dangers of smoking through a school-based education program. The method employed was a participatory community-based approach involving 30 students. The program consisted of socialization, interactive counseling, and the distribution of educational media in the form of an educational video. Evaluation was conducted using pre-test and post-test to measure changes in students’ knowledge before and after the intervention. The results showed an increase in the mean knowledge score from 71.99 in the pre-test to 76.0 in the post-test. A paired t-test yielded p=0.002 (<0.05), indicating a statistically significant improvement in students’ knowledge about the dangers of smoking after the intervention. Although the distribution of the “high knowledge” category slightly decreased, the overall increase in mean scores suggests that the educational program effectively strengthened students’ understanding. In conclusion, the school-based educational program proved effective in improving students’ knowledge about the dangers of smoking. Program sustainability requires periodic updating of educational materials and active collaboration among schools, teachers, parents, and the community. Such efforts are expected to prevent the emergence of novice smokers and support the establishment of a healthy, smoke-free school environment.

Abstract

Tuberculosis (TB) is an infectious disease caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis, which primarily affects the lungs but can also involve other organs such as the kidneys, bones, brain, and lymph nodes. TB remains a significant public health concern in Indonesia, including in Pisang Village, Pauh District, which records one of the highest TB prevalence rates based on data from the Pauh Community Health Center and local government. Poor sanitation conditions and low public awareness are among the major contributing factors to the high number of TB cases in this community. This community engagement activity aimed to enhance public understanding and awareness of TB through the emotional demonstration (emo-demo) approach. This interactive method was used to effectively communicate key health messages regarding the causes, transmission mechanisms, and preventive measures of TB, while also highlighting the importance of environmental sanitation and the implementation of Clean and Healthy Living Behaviors. The results of this activity demonstrated a noticeable improvement in community knowledge and awareness related to TB symptoms, causes, transmission routes, and prevention strategies. Participants showed increased interest and understanding, indicating positive behavioral changes and greater willingness to adopt preventive practices. Therefore, the emo-demo approach proved to be an effective educational strategy for strengthening TB prevention and control efforts at the community level.

Abstract

Sungai Pisang, located in the Bungus Teluk Kabung District, is a coastal area with approximately 2,116 residents, most of whom earn their livelihood as fishermen. The community faces interrelated nutritional and sanitation problems, primarily due to limited waste-management facilities. Household waste and fish-processing residues are commonly burned or buried, resulting in environmental pollution and increasing the risk of infectious diseases. These conditions negatively affect the community’s nutritional status, particularly among vulnerable groups such as children under five and pregnant women. This community service program aims to strengthen community capacity in improving nutrition and sanitation through a participatory empowerment approach. The activities were carried out through preparation, socialization, and intervention. These included official meetings with local authorities, health education sessions for housewives, mothers of young children, and community health volunteers, as well as a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) to develop applicable waste-management solutions. The results showed an increase in community knowledge regarding balanced nutrition and family health. In addition, residents agreed to initiate organic-waste composting and reduce the use of single-use plastics. This program integrates nutrition interventions with environmentally based sanitation improvements, emphasizing that nutritional enhancement cannot be separated from local ecological conditions. Collaboration among local government, health workers, and the community is essential to creating a sustainable healthy environment that supports comprehensive improvements in nutritional status.
