Abstract

The advent of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 significantly shifted educational paradigms, necessitating the adoption of online learning modalities. This study, rooted in the contextual changes brought by the pandemic, aimed to evaluate the effectiveness, quality, and impact of a Mixed Reality (MR) e-module on redox reaction topics in a high school setting. The research followed a 4D model (Define, Design, Develop, Disseminate) but was confined to the development phase.Conducted in a High School in Yogyakarta, Indonesia, this study involved 98 students (30 from grade 12 and 68 from grade 11), 3 teachers, and 2 validators. The research methodology included pre-tests and post-tests, alongside questionnaires to gather data. Descriptive statistical analysis was employed to process the assessments from validators, teachers, student responses, and test results. The field trial results indicated that the MR e-module for chemistry learning was deemed satisfactory and effective by the respondents. The analysis of the test of between-subject effect revealed no significant differences in interest and pre-test learning achievement between control and experimental groups. However, post-test results showed notable differences in interest and learning achievements, favoring the experimental group exposed to the MR e-module.The effectiveness of the MR e-module was quantified using partial eta squared calculations. The MR e-module contributed 25.7% effectively to both learning interest and achievement. When considered separately, the contribution was 2.7% for learning interest and 21.9% for learning achievement. These findings underscore the potential of MR e-modules as valuable educational tools, enhancing both student engagement and academic performance in online learning environments during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Abstract

The Aloe vera plant has been widely used as a food ingredient, medicine and cosmetics. This research aims to test the gel and ethanol extract of Aloe vera leaves as an antioxidant and absorber of UV light in vitro, as well as predicting the interaction mechanism for ROS1 kinase and collagenase receptors in silico. The antioxidant activity test method was carried out in vitro using DPPH (1,1-Diphenyl-2-Picrylhydrazyl-Hydrazine) reagent. Activity as a UV light absorber is carried out by calculating the sun protected factor (SPF) value. The antiaging activity test was carried out by predicting the interaction mechanism of the ROS1 kinase and collagenase receptors in silico using several phenolic compounds that have been found in Aloe vera. The total phenolic content of Aloe vera ethanol extract was 379.136 ± 0.34 GAE/g sample, while that of Aloe vera gel was 0.0619 ± 0.04 GAE/g sample. Aloe vera ethanol extract showed moderate antioxidant activity with an IC50 of 101.9 µg/mL, and is able to absorb UV light at concentrations of 0.05% and 0.1% with ultra protection criteria. Several phenolic compounds found in Aloe vera plants showed high binding energy to ROS1 kinase and collagenase receptors. Isoquercitrin showed the highest binding energy to the ROS1 kinase receptor, while isovitexin showed the highest binding energy to the collagenase receptor. The conclusion of this research showed that Aloe vera leaves contain compounds that have potential as antioxidants and antiaging. Keywords: Aloe vera, antioxidant, antiaging, ROS1 kinase, collagenase

Abstract

Enhancing scientific attitudes through education by incorporating green chemistry principles is essential, so that students can explore new ideas and information about chemistry concepts while considering environmental sustainability. This has the potential to change chemistry learning to be more meaningful. This study aims to determine the influence of the problem-based learning (PBL) model integrated with green chemistry on students' scientific attitudes. This research is a quasi experiment research with pretest-posttest control group design. The participants were XI MIPA class students who were randomly selected. The data collection method used scientific attitude questionnaire as an instrument. Data analysis includes n-gain test and hypothesis testing using t test. The results showed a sig value of 0.000 (0.000 < 0.05) and tcount of 5.136 (tcount > ttable). This indicates that there is a significant difference in scientific attitudes between students who follow the PBL-green chemistry learning model and students who follow learning with a scientific approach. The existence of this difference indicates that the PBL-green chemistry model has a positive influence in improving students' scientific attitudes.

Abstract

This study investigates the effect of the guided inquiry learning model integrated with ethnochemistry on senior high school students' critical thinking skills and learning interest in reaction rate. A quasi-experimental design with a pretest-posttest control group was employed, involving 60 students of class XI MIPA at SMAN 4 Lubuklinggau, selected through random sampling. Data were collected using a critical thinking test and a learning interest questionnaire, and analyzed with MANOVA. Findings revealed significant differences in critical thinking and learning interest between the two groups, with effective contributions of 65.7% simultaneously, 43.2% individually to critical thinking, and 44.3% to learning interest. These results demonstrate that guided inquiry integrated with ethnochemistry not only enhances students' cognitive and affective outcomes but also contributes to science education by contextualizing learning through local culture. It is therefore suggested that this model be applied to other chemistry topics and across broader student populations to strengthen its effectiveness and further enrich culturally grounded science learning.
