Abstract

The purpose of this study is to analyze the extent to which multicultural education can stand alone as an independent entity in educational institutions in Tanjung Balai City after the SARA-nuanced conflict.  The results of interviews with teachers and students of SMAN 1 Tanjung Balai revealed that this school tries to integrate multicultural values in the curriculum. However, multicultural education has not been separated as an independent entity. Teachers design the curriculum by emphasizing cultural and religious diversity in learning materials. Students confirm that the concept of diversity is reflected in school learning and activities. This study used a data analysis approach based on the Miles and Huberman framework. The results show that multicultural education in Tanjung Balai focuses on integrating cultural values in learning, but still needs more efforts to realize independent multicultural subjects. Multicultural education has the potential to bridge cultural and religious differences, but it needs professional teacher involvement and appropriate strategies to support the development of religious tolerance among students.

Abstract

This study aims to find out how to implement problem solutions to bullying behavior that tends to occur in Islamic educational institutions. Islamic educational institutions, which in their curriculum are ensured to have a lot of character education content, are considered not optimal in giving strict sanctions to students who are perpetrators of bullying and all other dishonorable acts. This research uses a qualitative descriptive approach. To obtain research data, researchers used open interview techniques with informants. The participants in this study were students from 4 Integrated Islamic Middle Schools in Medan City, totaling 4 students. Data triangulation techniques were also used in this study by checking records from interviews, field notes, surveys and also documentation records from various data obtained. The results of the study show that bullying that occurs in several Integrated Islamic schools does not receive serious attention, teachers and schools often ignore this behavior by not providing consequences or punishments so that bullies feel rewarded or empowered for their actions. The school should not tolerate the slightest bit of disgraceful actions committed by students so that it becomes a deterrent effect for other students and parents are also required to be responsible for providing good ethical education in the family. teachers and schools often ignore this behavior by not giving consequences or punishments so that bullies feel rewarded or empowered for their actions. Abstract

This study aims to analyze the ideological strengthening of Islamic Religious Education (IRE) in the era of technological disruption within Madrasah Aliyah Negeri (MAN) in Medan City. Amidst rapid digital transformation and the growing influence of globalized information, educational institutions face new challenges in preserving and transmitting religious values to students. Using a qualitative method and a case study approach, this research explores how teachers adapt pedagogical strategies to maintain the relevance of IRE in a digital age. Data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and document analysis. The findings reveal that teachers utilize several key strategies to reinforce Islamic ideology, including the clear and contextual delivery of curriculum content, sufficient instructional time, and utilization of available facilities and teaching staff. Furthermore, emphasis is placed on developing students’ critical thinking and reasoning abilities, nurturing civic awareness, promoting tolerance and appreciation for diversity, and aligning learning with students’ interests and talents. These strategies aim to balance religious values with the demands of 21st-century competencies. A novelty contribution of this study is its focus on the intersection between religious education and digital disruption, an area that remains underexplored in existing literature. Additionally, the research highlights structural challenges such as the absence of computer laboratories in several MAN institutions in Medan, which hampers equitable access to digital resources and creates information gaps among students and teachers. The study recommends future research employing mixed methods with broader samples across different regions to provide a more comprehensive understanding of IRE adaptation in the digital era.
