Abstract

Background: Discipline in parenting refers to actions or consequences imposed in response to rule violations. Objective: This scoping review aims to map scientific evidence related to the application of discipline, parenting experiences, and factors that influence its application in the context of families with teenage marriages. Methods: This scoping review used the five steps outlined by Arksey and O'Malley; identifying the research question, identifying relevant studies, Study Selection, data charting, results and discussion, and adhered to the prism-scr checklist. This study used the population, exposure, outcome (PEO) framework. The article searches used PubMed and Proquest databases. The critical appraisal tools used were the Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI) and Mixed Methods Appraisal Tools (MMAT). Results: The scoping review results showed that negative disciplinary practices, such as physical and emotional punishment, are still widely used in parenting, even though various studies have confirmed their adverse effects on children's psychological and emotional development. On the other hand, positive discipline is more conducive to the development of adaptive behaviour, academic ability, and warmer relationships between parents and children. Parents who marry at a young age often face considerable emotional pressure and parenting stress. The application of discipline is influenced by parental self-efficacy, family and social support, economic conditions, culture, education, and the availability of parenting resources. Conclusion: Positive discipline is a more appropriate approach.

Abstract

Background: Stunting remains a major public health problem with long-term consequences for physical growth, cognitive development, and future productivity. Prevention efforts should begin before pregnancy, particularly during adolescence, as adolescent girls are vulnerable to anemia and may enter pregnancy with inadequate nutritional status. Although peer education is widely used in adolescent health promotion, evidence regarding its contribution to stunting prevention remains fragmented. Methods: This scoping review followed the PRISMA-ScR guideline to map evidence on the role of peer education in improving knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors related to stunting prevention among adolescent girls. The review was guided by the PCC framework, with adolescent girls as the population, peer education as the concept, and stunting prevention as the context. Literature searches were conducted in PubMed, ScienceDirect, Wiley Online Library, and Google Scholar. Studies published between 2016 and 2025 were screened using predefined inclusion and exclusion criteria, and eligible articles were synthesized narratively. Results: A total of 1,931 records were identified, of which 13 studies met the inclusion criteria. Five major themes emerged: educational media for nutrition and stunting prevention, effects of peer education on knowledge-attitude-behavior outcomes, adherence to Fe/IFA supplementation, social and environmental support, and implementation challenges. Overall, peer education demonstrated positive effects on nutritional literacy, anemia-related knowledge, preventive attitudes, and health-promoting behaviors, particularly adherence to iron supplementation. However, intervention effectiveness was influenced by teacher support, parental involvement, peer interaction, and program sustainability. Conclusion: Peer education is a promising strategy for adolescent-based stunting prevention because it strengthens knowledge, attitudes, and preventive behaviors through socially relevant communication. Its effectiveness may be enhanced when integrated into school health programs, aligned with supplementation initiatives, and supported by continuous monitoring from schools and families.

Abstract

Stunting continues to be a significant public health concern in Indonesia and is strongly associated with maternal and reproductive determinants. One recognized factor contributing to stunting is early marriage, which may increase biological, psychosocial, and socioeconomic vulnerability among mothers. This study aimed to examine the relationship between maternal age at marriage and stunting among children under five in Sleman Regency, Indonesia, while accounting for selected maternal and child characteristics. A cross-sectional design was conducted from October to December 2025 across three primary health centers in Sleman, involving 60 mother–child pairs selected through total sampling. Stunting was defined as a height-for-age z-score below −2 standard deviations based on WHO criteria. Independent variables included maternal age at marriage, maternal sociodemographic characteristics, birth spacing, exclusive breastfeeding history, child sex, and health center coverage area. Data were analyzed using univariate, bivariate, and multivariate methods with Firth’s logistic regression. Adjusted odds ratios with 95% confidence intervals were calculated, and model selection was guided by the Akaike Information Criterion. Stunting prevalence was 16.7%. Early maternal marriage, female sex, and inadequate birth spacing were significantly associated with higher stunting risk. These findings underscore the importance of delaying marriage and strengthening reproductive health interventions.

Abstract

Introduction: Stunting remains a major public health concern in Indonesia, particularly during the first 1,000 days of life, and reflects the cumulative effects of nutritional deficits, infection, and suboptimal caregiving within broader social and environmental conditions. This study draws on current national and global evidence to frame stunting as a developmental and ecological problem that requires integrated, family-centred interventions. This study aimed to assess the effectiveness of Maranti stimulation (massage therapy for stunting), in enhancing growth and development among stunted children. Methods: This quasi-experimental study utilized a non-equivalent control group design and was conducted from August to November 2024 at two public health centers in Bantul, Yogyakarta, Indonesia. Participants were divided into two groups: the intervention group (n=23), which received weekly Maranti massage sessions over six weeks, and the control group (n=25), which was provided with educational booklets on child growth and developmental stimulation. Growth measurements were collected using anthropometric tools, and developmental outcomes were assessed using the BSID-III instrument. Data normality was assessed prior to analysis. Normally distributed variables were analyzed using independent t-tests, while non-normally distributed variables were analyzed using the Mann–Whitney U test in Stata. Results: The findings revealed significant improvements in growth and development post-intervention in both groups, with more pronounced effects in the intervention group. Notably, Maranti therapy significantly increased body weight (p=0.016) and height (p=0.001). Language (p=0.025) and motor skills (p=0.045) also improved significantly. Cognitive development, however, did not show a statistically significant change (p=0.635). Effect size analysis indicated medium to strong effects for weight and height (Cohen’s d = 0.724 and 1.041), and moderate effects for language and motor development (Cohen’s d = 0.580 and 0.595). Conclusion: Maranti stimulation demonstrates promise as an effective complementary strategy to improve physical growth and developmental outcomes in stunted children, though further research is needed regarding cognitive impacts. These findings suggest that culturally embedded tactile stimulation can serve as a feasible complementary approach for growth-promotion programs. The intervention holds potential for integration into community-based stunting-reduction strategies, particularly in settings where traditional practices remain influential.

Abstract

Abstract

Background: Violence against children is a serious global problem. The United Nations reports that more than one billion children experience violence every year. Childhood trauma resulting from such violence has a significant impact on adolescent sexual health, increasing the risk of early sexual initiation and sexually transmitted infections. This study aimed to identify the nature and scope of available research literature on the impact of childhood trauma on adolescent sexual health.Subjects and Method: This was a scoping review within the Arkey and O'Maley approach. The framework used in this study employed PCC (population, concept, and context). The population includes adolescents with childhood trauma, the concept focuses on adolescent sexual health, and the context is childhood trauma. The inclusion criteria in this study were primary research articles using English or Indonesian published in the last 10 years (2015 to 2025), full-text articles, and free. Article selection used Rayyan described in the PRISMA Flowchart, and the Critical Appraisal article assessment used Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI).Results: The results of the study, which included a total of 9 articles, stated that childhood trauma in children can be caused by various forms of violence against children, including physical violence, sexual violence, verbal violence, parental divorce, domestic violence, and neglect. All types of childhood trauma are significantly associated with risky health outcomes such as early sex, unmarital sex, teenage pregnancy, being a teenage parent, consuming illegal drugs and alcohol, and early puberty. Each increase in the type of childhood trauma experiences significantly increases risky sexual health. Conclusion: Adolescents who have childhood trauma are more at risk of various types of high-risk health behaviors such as early sexual intercourse, casual sex, teenage pregnancy, becoming teenage parents, at risk of Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs), early puberty, consuming illegal drugs and alcohol, and committing violence.

Abstract

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a developmental disorder that occurs in children.  Approximately 2.4 million children in Indonesia are diagnosed with autism. Comparing various parenting styles that affect the development and maturation of children with autism diagnoses in developed nations was the goal of this review. This review utilized the PRISMA-ScR checklist, PCC framework, and critical appraisal of articles by the Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI). Articles were collected from the PubMed, EBSCO, and Wiley databases and manual searches (Google Scholar and Research Rabbit) published from to 2013-2023. The search identified 123 articles and 18 duplicates. The screening results yielded 4 articles. The articles released in 2017 were one in, 2020 was two, and one in 2021. Each study used a cross-sectional design. The four selected articles were grouped by country of origin as follows: one from the United States, one from Japan, one from Brazil, and one from Indonesia. The examination of the four papers found that most mother parenting techniques with autistic children are democratic and impact the growth and development of autistic children in developed countries. Families may significantly enhance the care their autistic children receive and help them achieve the best developmental results by promoting evidence-based parenting techniques.

Abstract

The incidence of HIV/AIDS continues to rise. The high number of cases among adolescents is due to their lack of knowledge and attitudes about HIV/AIDS, which directly affects the prevention of this disease. Knowledge about HIV/AIDS is considered crucial, as it plays a role in shaping public perceptions, thereby influencing their understanding and awareness. HIV/AIDS health education for adolescents can be an effective approach to developing their knowledge about reproductive health and sexually transmitted diseases. This study aims to investigate the impact of HIV/AIDS health education on the knowledge level of 11th-grade students at SMA Negeri 1 Pundong. This study employed nonequivalent pretest-posttest control group design. The sampling technique used was probability sampling, with a total of 32 respondents divided into an experimental group of 16 and a control group of 16. Data were analyzed using non-parametric tests: the Wilcoxon matched-pairs test and the Mann-Whitney U test. Based on the pretest and posttest results, the average knowledge score in the experimental group increased from 60.69 to 83.00, while in the control group it rose from 63.70 to 73.00. The analysis showed a significant difference in knowledge levels before and after the HIV/AIDS health education intervention in both the experimental and control groups, with a p-value of 0.004 (p < 0.05). This study concludes that HIV/AIDS health education has a significant effect on improving the knowledge of 11th-grade students at SMA Negeri 1 Pundong.
