Abstract

Very complex coastal management tends to be divided according to administrative boundaries which generally have no ecological relevance. If the planning domains are carried out separately, connectivity and two-way ecological processes will be disrupted. The integration of land and sea spatial planning (coastal zones) is important in relation to the evaluation of new programs or policies with a spatial dimension. The role of geospatial information is important as a spatial model to integrate land and sea spatial plans and see the alignment or harmonization and synchronization of development planning programs in both the land and sea sectors. This paper focuses on the analysis of the level of alignment of the integration stage that is being carried out on the two spatial plan documents, to see the potential overlap of space utilization in the coastal area of Bintan Island with a spatial map overlay approach. The results obtained show that in general land and sea spatial planning has a good level of alignment, but there is still a potential for conflict over spatial use in area 4 (Eastern part of Bintan Island) related to industrial areas which are allocated on land side by side with marine conservation areas in coastal waters. This paper also describes policy recommendations to minimize future social conflicts and environmental impacts.

Abstract

The hammerhead shark has high economic value, but its population is highly threatened due to its high exploitation. This study aims to calculate the level of preference of shark fishermen on the value of willingness to pay for the conservation of hammerhead shark resources. This research was conducted from November to December 2020 in Tanjung Luar Village, East Lombok Regency. The method used is observation and in-depth interviews with a sample of 150 shark fishermen. The analysis used is binary logit regression analysis using the R studio 4.1.2 tool. The results of this study indicate that (1) the total price of willingness to pay from all Tanjung Luar shark fishermen is IDR 9,654,000, and the average monthly value is IDR 53,633 per person; (2) factors that are quite influential on respondents' willingness to pay are age, education level, number of family members, and monthly income. The conservation of hammerhead shark resources needs to be considered because it has been included in the CITES Appendix II red list with a critically endangered status towards extinction. Suggestion there is a need for educational steps from various parties to fishermen regarding the importance of the existence of hammerhead sharks in the ecosystem so that they can reduce the high level of fishing activity in nature.

Abstract

Understanding the influence and impact of environmental factors on manta ray sightings is critical to understanding the spatial and temporal ecology of a highly mobile species. Therefore, this study aims to determine the influence and impact of environmental factors as indicated by the parameters of wind speed, chlorophyll-a, SST, salinity, pH, dissolved oxygen, and the number of phytoplankton and zooplankton species. The mapped chlorophyll-a was re-analyzed based on the seasonal period throughout 2021 downloaded from marine copernicus and analyzed by kriging method. The influence and effects of environmental parameters on the short-term appearance of eye rays were studied using an adaptive model (GAM). The analysis showed a significant influence of environmental factors on manta ray sightings in Raja Ampat, namely Calanoid spp, Oithona nana, Acartia clausi, Calanus helgoladicus, and Oithona brevicornis. Based on this model, zooplankton is an important parameter that can describe the influence of environmental parameters on manta ray sightings at observation points in Raja Ampat MPA. The results of the reanalysis of chlorophyll-a concentrations were highest in the eastern to transitional seasons, which were scattered on the west side of Raja Ampat waters. Meanwhile, chlorophyll-a concentrations were low in the west to transitional season on the east side. This mechanism may drive the foraging strategy of manta rays, which visit shallow waters where zooplankton density and biomass are abundant. Adopting the BHS MPA network concept, as it has been implemented, would be in line with broader conservation expectations for the sustainability of manta rays in Raja Ampat.

Abstract

Abstract

Spiny lobster fisheries production, provides a fairly high economic value compared to other fisheries commodities in Gunungkidul Regency. The high selling value of spiny lobsters is one of the main factors that encourage fishermen to carry out their fishing activities massively, so it can have a negative impact on the environment and spiny lobster stocks in the waters. This study aims to map the interaction and connectivity of the social-ecological system (SES) of lobster fisheries on the coast of Gunungkidul Regency. The analysis method utilized is Social-Ecological Network Analysis (SENA) with R stundio tools and Cytoscape version 3.9.1. Data were obtained from in-depth interviews using questionnaires with key informants based on purposive sampling techniques. The results of the analysis showed that there were 94 elements and 216 relationships in the basic network model of multi SES lobster fisheries. The key variables that most affect the lobster fishing network are fishing season, fishing activity, lobster stock, and fishermen's income. There needs to be synergy between the resources system (RS), resources unit (RU), resources actor (RA), and resources governance (RG) such as monitoring and evaluation from RG to other systems in order to create optimal and sustainable lobster fisheries management.
