Abstract

The study examined how, in the age of globalization, education had advanced to a new level where the sharing of information had transcended national boundaries and examined intercultural communication competency based on the experiences of foreign students in Indonesia. But educational establishments weren't completely equipped to meet these contemporary demands. Even though intercultural communication research is not new, concerns about emerging cultural diversity have only recently gained a lot of attention. As a result, intercultural communication competency (ICC) in educational sectors is still quite low and needs further investigation. The study used a descriptive qualitative methodology in conjunction with a case and phenomenological investigation strategy. Semi-structured interviews were used to collect the data, along with research material. Through the analysis of the interactive multicultural building model—which is bolstered by the ideas of intercultural communication and the internationalization of higher education—the research findings demonstrate the persistence of disparities and opinions, as well as an evaluation of the three-perspective model that serves as the main focus of the study. It consists of three processes: behavioral (intercultural adeptness), cognitive (intercultural awareness), and emotional (intercultural sensitivity). In addition, there are other difficulties that need to be overcome.

Abstract

This study explores foreign language students' external motivation in extensive reading related to word targets and reading enjoyment. This research aims to find out how word targetss become assessments that can motivate foreign language students to enjoy reading. Extensive reading is not related to assessments that require foreign language students to be motivated to read. This research is qualitative research. The participants in this research were students in the A-class students of the English language and literature education study program at a university in Surabaya, Indonesia. The data collected is in the form of interview data and student reading profiles recorded in the Xreading application. Xreading is an application that students use as a learning management system in their extensive reading process. Xreading can also provide a place for foreign language students to determine what they want to read according to their pleasure. The results of this research found that students used target words as their external motivation to enjoy reading. The findings in this research also suggest ongoing monitoring by lecturers so that foreign language students continue to be motivated and enjoy reading so that their reading progress continues to increase.

Abstract

This study explores the complex relationship between political economy and gender inequality in Pakistan. The study finds a disconnect between progressive legal measures and their successful implementation through a thorough investigation of policy papers, legislative records, and qualitative interviews. The results highlight the critical need for interventions that go beyond legal changes and have both theoretical and practical ramifications. In practical terms, the research suggests multifaceted approaches that take into account political and economic factors, question gender stereotypes, and encourage women's involvement in decision-making. Theoretically, it advances feminist political economy by highlighting the need of including social and cultural aspects in frameworks for economic policy. The main goal of policy interventions should be to establish a supportive atmosphere that promotes equality of opportunities and challenges gender conventions. In order to achieve gender equality in Pakistan, policymakers and practitioners are urged by this study to adopt a holistic plan.

Abstract

This study aimed to capture the dynamic pedagogy of two Indonesian EFL lecturers to scaffold students’ critical thinking in digital reading. Driven by Clandinin’s (2000) narrative inquiry model, this study employed semi-structured interviews to investigate the development of teaching practices, student engagement with digital technology, and the promotion of dialogic teaching processes. This study found through thematic analysis that there were three main components of dynamic pedagogy: (a) Temporal scaffolding, namely, developing critical thinking via sequenced tasks designed to increase task difficulty progressively; (b) Mediating spaces, namely, creating critical spaces through digital media, including online platforms such as Google Docs and Padlet; and (c) Relational feedback - developing critical thinking via dialogic interaction to promote metacognitive thinking. Although uneven digital expertise and institutional support were difficult, the participants were flexible and shaped their pedagogy to account for the (critical) literacy demands of the students. This research contributes to the literature on EFL digital pedagogy by highlighting the teacher’s role in facilitating critical thinking as an ongoing, complex, and contextually bound process. There are also pedagogical implications, such as integrating digital skills instruction, providing iterative feedback to students on their digital sources (both online and offline), and offering professional development in digital critical literacy pedagogy.
