Abstract

The number of vehicles has increased every year. This increase was accompanied by an increase in the number of accidents that occurred. Accidents that occur result in damage to vehicles so that repainting is needed. Painting is an effort made by applying paint in liquid form on the surface of an object to create a layer on the surface of the object. Painting serves to protect and improve the appearance of a surface. The purpose of this study is to determine the effect of a combination of parameters that can produce maximum thickness values. The experimental design used in this study is a surface response method with three parameters where each parameter has three levels. The parameters chosen were spraying distance (110 mm, 130 mm, 150 mm), composition between paint-thinner (1: 1.6; 1: 1.4; 1: 1,2), and pressure (3,5; 4 , 5; 5.5). The painting process is carried out with the help of a paint test demonstrator. The painting results are dried in the oven and then measured using a thickness gauge. The measurement data is processed using the help of Minitab software and the estimator equation for thickness is obtained. The parameters with the greatest influence in this study are the distance of spraying with a distance coefficient of 2.258. Painting with the highest average value of thickness occurred in the fifteenth experiment with a thickness value of 39.9µm. The thickness is obtained by variable variations of 130mm distance, paint-thinner 1: 1.4 composition and 4.5 bar pressure.

Abstract

This research aims to find the optimal combination of parameters to obtain the maximum tensile strength of 3D printing products made of eCopper, which consists of 45% Cu and 55% PLA. The parameters used were nozzle temperature, layer height, print speed and bed temperature with three levels each. The Taguchi L9 (3^4) experiment was used for design and analysis. The product was printed in the form of a tensile test specimen according to the ASTM D638 Type I standard using a Cartesian FDM 3D printer. The average response S/N ratio calculation found that the highest tensile strength would be obtained when applying combination parameters of nozzle temperature 230 oC, layer height 0.35 mm, print speed 90 mm/s and bed temperature 60 oC. While each parameter contributes to the tensile strength by the order are nozzle temperature, layer height, print speed, and bed temperature 59.44%, 20.53%, 18.06% and 1.97%, respectively.

Abstract

Aluminum and aluminum alloys have properties that are less well when coMPared to steel, such as specific heat and has a high conductivity. They are also easily oxidized and form an aluminum oxide Al2O3 which have a high melting point. Consequently, when they are welded the fusion between base and weld metal will be blocked. Moreover, if the cooling process is too fast it will form a smooth cavity ex-pouch of hydrogen. Friction stir welding (FSW) is a challenging alternative for joining aluminum alloy. In FSW, process occur in the solid state (solid state joining). In this research, some attempts were carried out to find the best quality of welding, in term of mechanical properties and microstructure. Tool rotation speed was varied at 780, 980, 1120 rpm. Whereas, feed rate used was keep constantly at 15 mm/min. The material to be welded is a- 4.0 mm thick aluminum AA 1100 strips. Result showed that the highest strength obtained is 56.528 MPa at 1120 rpm and the lowest strength obtained is 38.472 MPa at 980 rpm. Wormholes and the lack of penetration defects are the main things that reduce the tensile strength. From micro observations known on the grains shape of the stir zone, FeAl3 particles is spread more evenly in matrix of Al  due to the stir process during the welding process. Hardness tests showed that the weld metal is softer than the base metal. Keywords: Aluminum, welding, FSW

Abstract

Two purposes of painting of the automobile body, i.e. protection and aesthetic. For the aesthetic one, scientifically measured its glossiness. The purpose of this study was to determine the effects of painting parameters using a spray to its glossiness. Three parameters varied were: (i) comparison of paint composition and thinner (1:1.2; 1:1.4 and 1:1.6), (ii) spraying distance (110 mm, 130 mm and 150 mm), and air pressure (3.5 bar; 4.5 bar and 5.5 bar, while the glossiness measured in gloss unit (GU) using a gloss meter. The experimental design method used was the response surface method with Box-Behnken design. A series of tests were carried out prior to ANOVA and optimization with Minitab: (i) lack of fit test, (ii) simultaneous parameter test, (iii) the coefficient of determination test, (iv) identical test, (v) independent test and (vi) normal distribution test. Out of three parameters, the most influential one is composition with a coefficient of mathematical equation of 6.592. In this study, the highest value in the 10th trial was 57.3 GU which was occurred when the parameters used were: distance of 130 mm, composition 1: 1.6 and pressure 3.5 bar. On the contrary, the smallest value GU in the 7th experiment was 35 GU with a distance of 110 mm, composition 1:1.4 and pressure 5.5 bar. From processing data using Minitab, the maximum gloss value was 58.76 GU with distance 116.86 mm, composition 1: 1.6 and pressure 3.5 bar. Keywords: painting, Box-Behnken design, gloss meter

Abstract

Wire drawing is cold working process to reduce the cross-sectional area. The value of reduction is different in every process, depend on the needs and working parameters. The degree of reduction causes differences of copper wire rod in the characteristics and quality, such as its tensile strength and roughness. The purpose of this research is to determine the influence degree of reduction to the tensile strength and roughness of copper wire. The research method is comparing the tensile strength and roughness of copper wires control with drawed copper wires, without repetition stage. The speciments used in this research are pure copper rods (99.9%) with 3.1 mm, 3.2 mm and 3.25 mm in diameter and 2.8 mm of die output, so will get the degree of reductions are 19%, 23% and 26%. The results of this research was the wire drawing process increase the tensile strength of copper rods from 86.87 MPa to 100.74 MPa on 19% reduction. On 23% reduction the tensile strength increase from 82.24 MPa to 105.62 MPa. The greatest increase of tensile strength was result by 26% reduction, it was from 86.87 MPa to 115.36 MPa With the more of degree of reduction on the drawing process led the increase of tensile strength will be greater. This research also obtained the result that the wire drawing process result the decrease roughness of copper rods from 0,144 μm to 0,089 μm on 19% reduction, from 0.146 μm to 0.087 μm on 23% reduction and the copper rod roughness decrease from 0.159 μm to 0.083 μm on 26% reduction. Abstract

Injection moulding is one process to form plastic by compress the melted plastic in a closed die. The raw material for the process either pure plastic pellet or mixed with recycled plastics. this research focused on finding the acceptable percentage of recycled  the raw material in term of tensile strengh and shrinkage. The composition is varied from 0% to 100% of polyethylene. Tensile test shows that the more percentage of recycled the lower is the  tensile strenght. on the other hand, the more the recycled composition the highernis shrinkage number. Both decrease of tensile strengh and increase of shrinkage are linearly. Recycled plastic in the raw material makes the composition be not uniform. It leads misrun defect, i.e. the melted plastic solidified before it reach the destined cavity in the mold. Moreover, it also creates more void in the parts. The highest tensile strength of 19.10 N/mm2 when no recycled mixed in, whereas the minimum of 12.05 N/mm2 achieved when 100% recycled was applied. Recycled Composition of 100% also increased by 9,82% compare to pure plastic. Keywords: Recycled plastic, tensile strength, shrinkage.

Abstract

Manufacture of biodegradable plastics in this study begins with making the dough using a single screw extruder, then the dough is molded by using a compression molding machine. The basic material used is a mixture of jatropha seed meal, corn starch, CMC (composition 7: 2: 1). This study aimed to study the effect of Helic corner and screw compression ratio of the batter character and biodegradable plastic produced. Helic screw angle was varied from 2,5o; 5o; 7.5 ° and screw compression ratio varied from 1.5; 2.5; 3.5. The results showed an increase in the angle of screw Helic simplify the process of molding (lowering the value of Tg, Tm, ΔH and texture of the dough) and to improve the mechanical physical properties of the biodegradable plastic produced (tensile strength, strain increases while the thickness and Water Vapor transmition rate decreases). Improved compression ratio increase and decrease the thermal properties of dough texture and increase the tensile strength and strain, decrease the thickness and Water Vapor transmition rate of biodegradable plastic produced. Keyword: biodegradable plastic, mold, helical degree, compression ratio

Abstract

This paper is concern on the using of some solar batteries for storing the energy from the solar panel. The battery used is a 100 WP solar cell with the appliances. Research was carried out in an open air with real condition without treatment for two months continuously during hot dry season in Malang city, Indonesia. It is concluded that emerged energy from the solar panel was 550 WH or equal to 12 V of 45 AH. During the electric charging from solar panel to the battery, the flowing current vary between 2 A to 6 A. The battery charging only started after 7 am when the voltage was above 12 V. For the solar panel 100 WP to use battery with the storage capacity above 40 AH. Keywords: battery, solar panel, energy

Abstract

This research aim is to find out the type of defects in production process of 600 ml bottle water at PT TIB Jember, then some attempts to resolve the problem. The p-chart of Statistical Process Control was employed. The control chart in September 2019 shown that some data beyond the ultimate control limit (UCL). The defects were categorized into three: whitening, deviate form, and broken. The Pareto chart revealed that the aforementioned defects were 59.7%, 26.36% and 15.07% respectively. By using the fishbone diagram some root cause of the defects were found. First, the unstable workplace temperature which disturbs the preform melting process prior to blowing, therefore causing whitening the bottle. Second, the heater which is often turned off while processing that caused deviate form. The frequently turned off the heater was caused by cracked-damage along with the hoses of overdue. Some suggestions were given, one of them was replacing the hoses by the new ones. The new control chart in October 2019 showed that all data within the limits following the replacement of the hose. It also reduced the rate of the defect by 0.19% from 0.74% to 0.55%.

Abstract

Nanopartikel adalah partikel yang berskala nanometer atau 10-9. Dalam penelitian ini nanopartikel ZnO berhasil terproses dengan metode DC Thermal Plasma, ukuran partikel yang dihasilkan cukup bagus. Kombinasi plasma sangat mempengaruhi morfologi nanopartikel, proses yang terjadi hanya memerlukan sangat singkat. Dimulai dari serbuk Zn yang didorong untuk masuk ke dalam arc plasma dan terjadi proses liquid, oxidation and kristalin. Ukuran kristal yang dihasilkan untuk puncak hkl tertinggi dimulai dari 42-50nm. Parameter kisi kristal yang diperoleh adalah a= 0,2610347nm dan c= 0,782935. Struktur kristal yang dihasilkan adalah hexagonal dan space group P63MC.
