Abstract

Sustainability reports provide a corporate performance’s comprehensive view from economic, social, and environmental perspectives to help stakeholders identify progress and areas for improvement as well as increasing public awareness. However, given the rising issue of “greenwashing,” false environmental claims often shown in company reports, it is important to examine the authenticity of a sustainable report, especially in its alignment with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), to see whether the report actually reflects ecological responsibility or simply to improve stakeholder trust and company image. This study aims to examine the sustainability report of a fishery industry in Indonesia. Using a mix-method, i.e., combination of AI tools for initial summary of the report and qualitative Ecological Discourse Analysis (EDA), especially the framing and erasure theories of Stibbe (2015), the research seeks to identify the report’s alignments with indicators concerning responsible consumption (SDG 12), climate action (SDG 13), and ocean ecosystems (SDG 14). The finding shows that there are inconsistencies between the company’s ecological principles and its sustainability claims as revealed from its framing and erasure narrativization. The report’s focus on creating a corporate self-image as a consumer and market-driven company results in a lack of visible ecological accountability.

Abstract

This study discusses the presupposition expressed by haters of Joe Biden’s Instagram account. The aim of this research is to find out the types of presupposition in haters' comments on Joe Biden’s posts on his Instagram account and the implicit meaning of the presupposition. This research uses the theory of Huang (2014) for the presupposition analysis and the theory of Larson (1984) for the implicit meaning. This study used the descriptive qualitative method because the researcher can find out the perspective of the object of research more deeply that cannot be represented by statistical figures. The data obtained from the utterances of haters in the comment column of Joe Biden’s Instagram account, then it was classified by types and then interpreted in the implicit meaning of the utterances. The source of the data was taken from two posts about the G20 posted by Joe Biden on 17, November 2022 in his Instagram account. In the results of this study, the researcher found seven (7) types of presupposition based on data source 1 and data source 2. They are definite description, aspectual, iterative, implicative predicates, quantifier, temporal clause, and counterfactual conditional. The type most commonly found in this study is definite description. The researcher also found the kinds of implicit meaning to interpret the presupposition. They are implicit referential meaning, organizational meaning, and situational meaning. Implicit organizational meaning is the kind of implicit meaning that is often used by haters in the comments column on Joe Biden’s Instagram account. For future researchers, this research can be used as a reference for carrying out research, especially those related to presupposition according to Yan Huang.

Abstract

In this post-truth era, dystopia fiction is important as empathy, trust, and compassion fall apart. This literary genre predicts a terrible future when people forced to submit to tyrants who control unlimited power in economics, politics, and technology. This study aims to examine two dystopia short stories by Ray Bradbury, i.e. The Pedestrian and All Summer in a Day. These two short stories are placing in the context of contemporary society, which has high technology and ignorant of objective truths since they accept facts built on emotions, opinions, and some particular ideologies. By using content analysis, this study reveals two main findings. First, there is an oscillation of people who worship technology and those who are fearful of technology in both short stories. The diverse characters become further alienated to one another as technology rules over. Second, technology sometimes turns into an enemy that hampers the relationship among the characters; as a result, intolerance swarms when the objective truth sinks in a wave of public opinions, in this case, represented by the voice of the authoritarian government in the first short story, and that of the Venusian pupils in the second story.

Abstract

Abstract

The ethical and environmental implications of technological advancement are frequently questioned in the age of artificial intelligence (AI) and biotechnology. We examine Rappaccini’s Daughter by American Dark Romantic Nathaniel Hawthorne to show how the short story resonates with contemporary concerns about AI and automation that may replace human connection and empathy. We employ a contextual and environmentally sensitive interpretation of the text to reveal Hawthorne’s criticisms of an over-reliance on human reason and science, which perpetuates the characters’ alienation and dehumanization. In light of concepts in ecopsychology, i.e., biophobia and alienation, the findings reveal that Rappaccini’s Daughter 1) warns against the tragic consequences of manipulating nature beyond control, and 2) explores the awkward relationship between artificial creation and environmental ethics. We conclude that unscrupulous scientific pursuits ultimately lead to ecological and psychological harm and the loss of genuine beauty. Seen as cautionary tales, 19th-century literary works such as Rappaccini’s Daughter can thus be revisited as they offer insights into how individuals today cope with ecological anxieties.

Abstract

Anemia remains a common health problem and can be influenced by various physiological factors and lifestyle behaviors. This study aimed to analyze factors associated with hemoglobin (Hb) level among respondents. This research used a quantitative approach with bivariate and multivariate analyses. The Chi-square test was applied to analyze categorical variables, while the Independent Samples T-Test was used for numerical variables. Furthermore, logistic regression analysis was conducted to determine the simultaneous effect of independent variables on Hb status. The variables examined included sex, age, portion and frequency of meals, peripheral oxygen saturation (SpO₂), and exercise duration. The results of the bivariate analysis showed that none of the variables had a significant relationship with Hb status (p > 0.05). However, the multivariate analysis indicated that age (p = 0.021) had a significant association with Hb status, while the other variables did not show a significant relationship. Future studies are recommended to involve a larger sample size, include additional variables such as iron intake, nutritional status, and physical activity patterns, and apply a longitudinal research design to better explain causal relationships

Abstract

Increased blood glucose levels in older adults are associated with the aging process, which is characterized by decreased insulin sensitivity and reduced skeletal muscle mass and function, leading to suboptimal glucose utilization. Elderly exercise is a structured physical activity that can serve as a non-pharmacological intervention to support metabolic regulation in older populations. This study aimed to describe the profile of blood glucose levels among older adults after participating in an elderly exercise program based on a community elderly school. This study employed a pre-experimental design with a one-shot case study approach involving 15 respondents aged 60–76 years at the SMART “Teratai” Elderly School in Bandungrejosarisari, Sukun, Malang. The instruments used included an observation sheet and a random blood glucose measurement conducted once after the exercise session. Data were analyzed descriptively, including mean, median, standard deviation, minimum, and maximum values. The results showed that the median blood glucose level after the exercise was 107 mg/dL, with a range from 52 mg/dL to 326 mg/dL. Most respondents were female (93.3%) and aged between 60–75 years (86.7%). These findings indicate that the majority of older adults had relatively controlled blood glucose levels after participating in the exercise program. In conclusion, elderly exercise programs conducted through elderly schools have the potential to serve as a promotive strategy in maintaining metabolic health among older adults.
