Abstract

Dengue fever (DHF) is a significant health problem in tropical regions, including the working area of Puskesmas Moropelang, Lamongan. Data shows that DHF cases continue to be found in the period 2020-2023. This study aims to analyse the relationship between residential environmental sanitation and the incidence of DHF in the region in 2024. This study used a quantitative approach with an analytical observational design based on the case-control method. The study population was 148, with a total sample size of 74 cases and 74 controls. Independent variables included environmental conditions, water reservoirs, and larval density, while the dependent variable was dengue incidence. Data were analysed using the Chi-Square test. The results showed a significant association between environmental conditions (p=0.013), water storage conditions (p=0.003), and the number of free larvae (p=0.004) with the incidence of DHF. Respondents with poor home environmental conditions had a 2.3 times higher risk of DHF, while the risk increased to 2.7 times in poor water reservoirs, and 2.6 times in environments with high larval density. This study concluded that residential environmental sanitation plays an important role in the prevention of DHF. Weekly mosquito nest eradication efforts, community education, and regular monitoring of larvae are recommended to reduce the incidence of DHF and improve environmental health.

Abstract

Examination of air quality at Bhakti Dharma Husada Surabaya Hospital showed a non-conformity of standards in the LAF Room (Laminair air flow). The study aimed to analyse the physical and microbiological air quality factors in the cleaning process in the LAF (Laminair Air Flow) room. The study used an observational descriptive design with a cross-sectional approach. The study population was room air in the LAF room. The research variables included temperature, humidity, lighting, air germ count, Staphylococcus, and room cleaning process. Data collection techniques were observation, measurement, and laboratory examination. Data were analysed and presented descriptively. The study's results showed the value of the air germ number before the cleaning process was 16 CFU/m3, exceeding the required quality standard of 10 CFU/m³. Measurements after the cleaning process have met the requirements of 9 CFU/m³. Room temperature and humidity measurements before and after the cleaning process have met the quality standards of 16-25°C and 35-50%. The lighting measurement of 110.6 lux does not meet the minimum requirement of 500 lux. Environmental health officers should monitor room cleaners for compliance with the use of personal protective equipment. It is necessary to increase the intensity or modify the lighting.

Abstract

Poor waste management can lead to environmental pollution. Waste banks, based on the 3R principles (reduce, reuse, recycle), are an effort to manage waste sustainably while enhancing community income. However, the effectiveness of waste bank operations is often hampered by low community participation, suboptimal operational mechanisms, and inconsistent application of standard operating procedures (SOPs). This study aimed to evaluate the management of waste banks in Mojo Urban Village, Gubeng District, Surabaya City. A cross-sectional observational method with descriptive analysis was employed. Variables assessed included waste generation, waste sources, operational mechanisms, and SOP components across seven waste banks. Data collection involved interviews and observations. Results showed the dominant waste types were plastic (1317.3 kg, average 219.55 kg), paper (1195.7 kg, average 199.28 kg), metal (217 kg, average 36.17 kg), and glass (81 kg, average 13.5 kg), with an overall average of 1.12 kg/day per neighborhood unit (RW). Waste originated entirely from residential areas. Operational mechanisms were rated 100% compliant, while SOP implementation reached 84.3%, categorized as good. It is recommended that waste bank managers conduct monthly community education sessions on waste separation and improve the implementation of two SOP components: waste collection and waste condition requirements. Strengthening these areas can further enhance the sustainability and effectiveness of waste bank management.

Abstract

Secara umum keadaan warga panti asuhan dalam keadaan baik Social problems that often occur in society are abandoned children, street children, beggars, disabled people, neglected elderly, poor families, families with social problems, and so on. Children and poor people should have their human rights fulfilled by the State of Indonesia. However, in reality there are many children whose needs are not met, such as parents who are unable to provide for the child's needs or the child does not have parents. One effort to overcome this is to establish social institutions in the form of orphanages. Since the pandemic, children at the Mission Nusantara Surakarta Orphanage rarely receive health services and there is limited space for children to move. Theless than purpose of this community service is to assist the orphanage in monitoring the growth and development of residents and managers of the Mission Nusantara Orphanage in Surakarta. The implementation method is in the form of examinations on child growth and development, Counseling on Clean and Healthy Living, checking on the Nutritional Status of Children, counseling on how to brush their teeth properly, health checks for orphanage managers and training on disaster management. 6 percent) of the residents of the orphanage are male, almost half of them are aged 21-60 years, most (68.4 percent) have blood pressure less than 140/90 mmHg, most (73.1 percent) have normal nutritional status, almost all (94.4 percent) blood glucose less than 126 m/dL and uric acid less than 8 mg/dl. Similar activities are needed to see general body health and must be monitored periodically, so that the residents of the orphanage can find out their health status, especially now that they are still in a pandemic condition Covid-19
