Abstract

This study integrates technology and communication science perspectives, focusing on the impact of digital transformation on layoffs at Indosat in February 2020. The research aims to analyze the relationship between the adoption of new technology and layoffs using Marshall McLuhan's theory. The study employs qualitative methods through in-depth interviews with 10 affected former employees. The findings reveal that digital transformation and automation enhance operational efficiency but cause significant changes in workforce structure and internal dynamics. Former employees associate layoffs with downsizing strategies that impact their well-being. The study explains that communication technology successfully shapes organizational culture and social interactions. In conclusion, it is essential for companies to develop comprehensive change management strategies that consider employee well-being alongside operational efficiency to balance business goals with social responsibility and ensure organizational sustainability.

Abstract

Keterlibatan perempuan dalam menyelesaikan permasalahan lingkungan pertanian yang dihadapi Garut Jawa Barat mendorong gerakan petani buruh yang pimpin oleh Nissa Wargadipura untuk menyelamatkan hak-hak petani. Kini, gerakan tersebut diperluas dalam bentuk pendidikan pesantren berbasis ekologi melalui Pesantren Ath-Thaariq. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menjelaskan perilaku perempuan sebagai opinion leader dalam melakukan komunikasi lingkungan pada ruang lingkup pesantren. Metode penelitian yang digunakan yaitu studi kasus dan pendekatan kualitatif dengan teori difusi inovasi milik Everett M Rogers. Pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan wawancara dan dokumentasi lapangan. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukan bahwa peran perempuan sebagai opinion leader dalam mengatasi krisis iklim yaitu perempuan sebagai penggagas ide sistem agroekologi dipesantren, agen komunikator, inspirator dan pelaku monitoring evaluasi inovasi.

Abstract

Tujuan penelitian ini menganalisa tantangan budaya organisasi di perusahaan multinasional, dengan fokus pada studi kasus di Ericsson, khususnya pekerja profesional Indonesia yang bekerja di  Indonesia dan Filipina, menggunakan Model Richard Lewis sebagai kerangka teori. Model ini mengklasifikasikan budaya menjadi linear-aktif, multi-aktif, dan reaktif. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif dengan wawancara mendalam melalui Whatsapp call dan email sebagai teknik utama untuk mengumpulkan data dari seorang pekerja profesional di Indonesia yang memiliki pengalaman kerja di Ericsson pada kedua negara tersebut. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan, meskipun Indonesia dan Filipina berada dikelompok budaya multi aktif reaktif, tetapi terdapat perbedaan dalam gaya komunikasi dan kerja di Ericsson Filipina dibandingkan dengan Ericsson Indonesia. Gaya kerja di Filipina cenderung lebih individualis dibandingkan dengan di Indonesia, yang lebih kooperatif. Untuk menyesuaikan diri, pekerja tersebut memelihara komunikasi yang baik, fleksibilitas, dan membangun hubungan kerja yang kuat meskipun dalam lingkungan yang lebih individualis. Kesimpulan penelitian ini memberikan rekomendasi untuk pelatihan lintas budaya melalui seminar ataupun workshop dan penting bagi manajemen perusahaan dalam meningkatkan efektivitas dan kemampuan pekerja di lingkungan kerja yang beragam secara budaya.

Abstract

Media convergence was born due to changes in times that require audiences to use the internet. Through media convergence, Kompas Gramedia has media that can be consumed online. Media convergence creates content that has been broadcast, then republished by other media, resulting in financial profits. There was content commodification on the Rosi TV program, which broadcast Komeng's interview regarding his success in winning the most votes as a legislative candidate for the 2024 West Java electoral district, which was then republished by other media under the auspices of Kompas Gramedia. Through Convergence Theory, this research aims to find out how content commodification takes place in the context of business development in companies. Using qualitative methods based on literature studies which describe findings descriptively, this research uses BMC Analysis, which compiles nine blocks to determine business strategy by Kompas Gramedia. The economic impact of media convergence was found, resulting in increased income, efficient spending, increased cooperation, and increased content innovation from the Komeng interview on Rosi TV.

Abstract

This research aims to understand how homophobic comments on @gitasav’s Instagram account in the context of International Women’s Day 2023 are analysed using netnographic study with the application of computer-mediated communication (CMC) theory, feminist standpoint theory, and reception theory. There is a tendency for netizens to accept Gitasav's content in her uploads celebrating International Women's Day 2023, although, at the same time, negative comments such as insults, sarcasm, foul language, disappointment, and homophobia towards Gitasav and the LGBTQ+ community also still fill the comments section, taking the point of view that Gitasavsults from this research showed that 44% of the comments were positive, followed by 35% of neutral comments. Then the negative comments amounted to 20%. Positive negative comments were 1% and negative positive comments were 0.19%. After being classified with Reception Theory by Stuart Hall, 236 comments were in the Hegemony Dominant position, 107 comments were in the Opposition position and 8 comments were in the Negotiation position. There is a tendency for netizens to accept Gitasav's content in her uploads celebrating International Women's Day 2023, although, at the same time, negative comments such as insults, sarcasm, foul language, disappointment, and homophobia towards Gitasav and the LGBTQ+ community also still fill the comments section, taking the point of view that Gitasav is no longer seen as the Muslim woman she has traditionally been with LGBTQ community.

Abstract

During the early Covid-19 pandemic, led by controversial presidential figure Donald Trump, the US seemed to be overwhelmed by this microbial creature, proving to be one of the countries with the most Covid-19. Besides health impacts, there are many multi-effects afterward, such as economic, social, political, and so on, that must be faced after this Covid-19 outbreak. Moreover, the US will hold a presidential election in November 2020. This challenge makes Trump must focus on how to complete Covid-19 while maintaining electability as President. One of the methods adopted is by forming narration through Twitter. Donald Trump is an active Twitter user who often tweets about his stance. Therefore, this study wants to analyze Trump's Twitter tweet content based on propaganda based on six propaganda classifications based on Holly Thayer's Theory. The quantitative content analysis method is the systematic and replicable examination of symbols of communication. The object of research in this article is Twitter's @realDonaldTrump tweet. We analyzed Donald Trump's Twitter content in the period 1 March 2020-27 May 2020 with a systematic random sample method. Our result shows that Trump constructs a message to support his policy and maintain his electability.

Abstract

Gender inequality in Indonesia is very high and even in 2021, it was the highest in ASEAN. BPS data, in the following years there was a decrease in the gender inequality index, but the decrease was not significant, and it turned out that complaints of cases of violence against women increased. According to Komnas Perempuan, in 2023, the number of complaints of cases of violence against women was 4,374 cases, an increase compared to the previous year. Law Number 40 of 1999 concerning the Press requires the mass media to assist in efforts to increase gender equality. Fulfilling this obligation, Haibunda.com as a mass media created the "Mother Story" program to accommodate women, especially mothers, to voice the gender injustice they experience in their daily lives. This program has successfully invited Haibunda.com readers to participate. The purpose of this study is to analyze how the Schramm model of participatory communication (sender (transmitter), encoder, decoder, interpreter, receiver, message, feedback, medium, and noise) is implemented in the program "Mother Story" Haibunda.com. This research is descriptive qualitative research with data collection through literature studies, observations, and interviews. The results of the study show that the Schramm model of participatory communication is well implemented in the 'Mother Story' program. The type of participation is self-mobilization. The motivation of mothers to send their stories is to voice the injustice they experienced, the participation rate is a partnership. Haibunda.com conducts training and utilizes technology to maintain and increase such participation

Abstract

Abstrak. Penelitian ini berisi tentang fenomena pelecehan seksual verbal sesama jenis yang terjadi melalui platform YouTube dalam video game live streaming, khususnya dalam konten Mobile Legends Bang Bang (MLBB). Urgensi penelitian ini terletak pada semakin maraknya kasus pelecehan seksual verbal di ruang digital, yang sering kali dinormalisasi sebagai bahan candaan atau hiburan, sehingga berpotensi merusak nilai-nilai sosial dan psikologis korban. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk menganalisis bentuk-bentuk pelecehan seksual verbal dalam live streaming, serta dampaknya terhadap interaksi sosial di dunia maya. Teori yang digunakan adalah Computer Mediated Communication (CMC) oleh Wood dan Smith, yang menjelaskan peran komputer sebagai mediator dalam interaksi digital. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode analisis isi kualitatif untuk mengidentifikasi pesan pelecehan seksual verbal dalam video live streaming akun YouTube "Top Global Miya". Data dikumpulkan melalui observasi, dokumentasi, dan studi pustaka. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pelecehan seksual verbal terjadi melalui pesan teks dan audio yang dikirim via platform donasi seperti Saweria. Pesan-pesan tersebut sering kali dibalut candaan, sehingga dinormalisasi oleh penonton. Reaksi streamer berupa trash talking justru memperkuat siklus pelecehan, karena dianggap sebagai hiburan. Penelitian ini merekomendasikan perlunya regulasi lebih ketat dari platform seperti YouTube dan Saweria untuk memfilter konten pelecehan, serta edukasi bagi pengguna tentang dampak negatif normalisasi pelecehan seksual. Streamer juga diharapkan bisa membatasi penggunaan saweria berbentuk audio untuk mencegah pelecehan dalam bentuk suara. Selain itu, penting untuk meningkatkan kesadaran hukum dan pelaporan kasus pelecehan di ruang digital.Abstract. This study examines the phenomenon of same-sex verbal sexual harassment occurring through the YouTube platform in live-streamed video games, particularly in Mobile Legends Bang Bang (MLBB) content. The urgency of this research lies in the increasing prevalence of verbal sexual harassment in digital spaces, which is often normalised as a form of humour or entertainment, thereby potentially damaging the social and psychological values of victims. The objective of this study is to analyse the negative impacts of live streaming games, particularly the presence of sexual harassment. This research employs qualitative content analysis to identify messages within the live streaming videos of the YouTube account ‘Top Global Miya.’ Data was collected through observation, documentation, and literature review. The results of the study indicate that the negative impacts of communication during live streaming include verbal sexual harassment occurring through text and audio messages. These messages are often disguised as jokes, thereby normalised by the audience. The streamer's reactions, such as trash talking, reinforce the cycle of harassment, as it is perceived as entertainment. This study found the negative impacts of communication, highlighting the need for stricter regulations from platforms like YouTube and Saweria to filter content, as well as education for users about the negative impacts of normalising sexual harassment, including the importance of increasing legal awareness and reporting cases of harassment.

Abstract

Pemberitaan penolakan warga Aceh terhadap kedatangan etnis Rohingya menimbulkan banyaknya respons dari masyarakat Indonesia, salah satunya di media Youtube. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui aktor yang memegang peran dalam respons dari jaringan komunikasi yang berlangsung pada kolom komentar dan menemukan adanya sentimen dari kalimat komentar. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kuantitatif dan kualitatif yang menghasilkan data berupa frekuensi angka dan hasil analisis teks komentar melalui pendekatan Social Network Analysis berdasarkan alat bantu Netlytic.org dan Gephi. Melalui teori Jaringan Komunikasi, penelitian ini akan melihat interaksi yang berkembang di kolom komentar Youtube sebagai bentuk forum digital dalam terjadinya pertukaran pesan yang saling terhubung antar pengguna. Hasil dari penelitian ini adalah ditemukannya aktor @men_sim sebagai aktor paling aktif dalam menyebarkan komentar, sementara aktor sebagai pemicu timbulnya respons dari aktor lain terhadap komentarnya yaitu @dyatra6410. Penelitian ini juga menemukan bahwa respons masyarakat terhadap kedatangan etnis Rohingya berupa respons negatif pada kolom komentar sebagai ruang komunikasi publik digital. Penilitian ini berkontribusi dalam pemahaman dinamika jaringan komunikasi di media digital, khususnya pada media Youtube.
