Abstract

Abstract The Larung Sesaji ritual in Probolinggo City is a coastal community tradition rich in symbolic meaning and social values. This ritual not only serves as an expression of gratitude for the blessings of nature but also functions as a medium of cultural preservation, education, and spiritual communication between humans, nature, and the Creator. This study aims to explore the symbolic meanings, social values, and educational functions embedded in the Larung Sesaji Bumi ritual and its relevance to the concept of ethnopedagogy. The research employed a qualitative descriptive approach using literature study methods, by analyzing academic sources such as journals, books, and related documents without conducting direct field observation. The results show that Larung Sesaji contains strong religious, social, ecological, and aesthetic values. The symbols within the offerings reflect the harmonious relationship between humans and nature, while collective participation in the ritual preparation and performance demonstrates social solidarity and mutual cooperation. Beyond its spiritual aspects, the ritual also holds educational significance as a medium for character education based on local wisdom. In the context of ethnopedagogy, Larung Sesaji Bumi serves as an effective cultural medium for cultivating religiosity, social responsibility, and cultural awareness among the community.

Abstract

Generation Z faces increasing challenges in forming their sense of self. This study explores how traditional arts, particularly Jaipong dance, can serve as a medium for personal branding through informal learning. A qualitative case study approach was employed, with data collected via observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation of active members of Sanggar Seni Cahaya Kancana in Garut, West Java. The findings suggest that the studio serves as a social and cultural ecosystem where participants internalise cultural values, boost their self-confidence, and develop personal branding both offline and online. Specifically, participants demonstrated significant character development, gained community recognition, and used social media to amplify their cultural identities. The results support the integration of traditional art into youth identity formation by combining local heritage with digital expression. This study contributes to the understanding of informal learning spaces as strategic environments for shaping competitive and culturally grounded identities in the digital age

Abstract

Generation Z's flexing and personal branding practices on social media that display wealth, achievements, appearance, and relationships attract public attention. This qualitative study with a virtual ethnography research design aims to identify the behavioral patterns of generation Z in interacting on social media as well as the perceptions of the viewing audience. Data was collected through observations on influencers' social media accounts and Twitter using the keywords 'flexing' and 'personal branding' and interviews with 6 informants. Data that met the criteria was then interpreted contextually and recontextually until it entered the content analysis stage. The results were analyzed using symbolic interactionism theory, social reality construction theory, and critical theory. As a result, Generation Z's behavior patterns in flexing or personal branding have characteristics that describe symbols of wealth, achievement, appearance, and relationships. This forms a social reality about the standard of living reflected in social media. The negative impact affects the emergence of alienation, social inequality, and exploitation.

Abstract

The phenomenon of growing up without a father is increasingly prevalent in modern Indonesian families. This has an impact on individual ego development, family communication, and readiness for commitment in adult romantic relationships. A systematic literature review method was used in this study to examine the relationship between these three variables. This study conducted a search of the latest literature from journals on family sociology and developmental psychology. The results show that father absence causes identity crises, emotional regulation disorders, and unresponsive family communication. Ultimately, this hinders the formation of stable commitments and increases the risk of unhealthy relationships. These results are reinforced by Ralph Linton's role theory, which states that adult relationship patterns are shaped by imbalances in family social roles. This study supports an integrative conceptual model for psychosocial interventions in fatherless families.

Abstract

Students' disrespect for teachers is one of the big challenges in the world of modern education. This phenomenon can be seen in one of the private high schools in Bandung, where students tend to disrespect teachers, consider teachers only as providers of educational services, and show disrespectful behavior during the teaching and learning process. This problem has an impact on disrupting a conducive learning atmosphere and decreasing teacher enthusiasm for teaching. This research aims to analyze the factors that influence students' disrespect for teachers and find strategic solutions to rebuild the value given to teachers. The method used is a qualitative approach with participant observation techniques, in-depth interviews and document analysis. The research results show that students' disrespect is influenced by several factors, such as parental parenting patterns, the negative influence of social media, and weak character education in schools. This disrespect causes disruption to the ideal learning process. However, this research also found that building positive emotional relationships between teachers and students can be an effective strategy in creating an ethical learning environment.

Abstract

The rapid growth of coffee shops in Indonesia, particularly in the Dago area of Bandung, has transformed these spaces from mere consumption sites into informal learning spaces for university students. Although research on coffee shops and students continues to develop, studies examining how students subjectively construct meaning around coffee shops as alternative learning spaces through the lens of Interaksionisme simbolik remain limited, especially in the specific context of Dago. This study aims to analyze in depth how students construct meaning around coffee shops in the Dago area as alternative learning spaces outside campus, using Blumer's Interaksionisme simbolik perspective. This study employed a qualitative approach with a case study design. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with seven active students from Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia and one barista, as well as non-participant observation at three coffee shops in the Dago area, then analyzed using the interactive model of Miles, Huberman, and Saldana. The findings show that students' meaning-making of coffee shops as informal learning spaces occurs through three interrelated processes: the formation of a definition of the situation through physical symbols such as laptops and earphones, the construction of meaning through layered social interaction with fellow students, social media, and baristas, and the negotiation and modification of meaning through space appropriation practices and shifting collective discourse over time. These findings confirm that coffee shops in the Dago area are not merely a neutral backdrop, but an actively constructed social arena that extends students' learning space beyond the boundaries of formal institutions.

Abstract

This article discusses the challenges of preserving the Lampung script in an era of increasing modernization. As part of Indonesia's cultural heritage, the Lampung script faces the risk of losing its identity due to the influences of urbanization, migration, and the dominance of mass media. The younger generation tends to have minimal understanding of the Lampung script due to a lack of emphasis in formal education and lifestyle changes that focus more on technology. This study adopts a literature review method, gathering several sources to strengthen its research. Preservation efforts are carried out through introducing the Lampung script to the younger generation through formal and informal education, developing modern technology to facilitate learning, and integrating the Lampung script into local education curricula. Collaboration between the government, cultural institutions, education sector, and the community is necessary to preserve the Lampung script as an essential part of Lampung's cultural and linguistic identity. Further research is recommended to evaluate the effectiveness of proposed preservation efforts and gain a deeper understanding of the use and understanding of the Lampung script among the Lampung community.
