Abstract

Introduction: Childbirth preparation classes play a crucial role in equipping pregnant women with the knowledge and skills necessary to face labor with confidence. Low maternal self-efficacy is often associated with increased anxiety, longer labor duration, and negative birth experiences. This study examines how implementing childbirth preparation classes affects women’s self-efficacy and pregnancy outcomes. Research Methodology: This quasi-experimental study used a pre-test and post-test control group design. 60 pregnant women in their third trimester were recruited and randomly assigned to either the intervention group (n=30), who received childbirth preparation classes, or the control group (n=30), who received standard antenatal care. The classes were conducted over four sessions, covering the labor process, pain management, relaxation techniques, and postpartum care. Self-efficacy was measured using the Childbirth Self-Efficacy Inventory (CBSEI), while pregnancy outcomes were assessed through medical records and post-delivery interviews. Result: The results showed a statistically significant increase in self-efficacy scores in the intervention group compared to the control group (p < 0.01). Additionally, women in the intervention group experienced shorter labor durations, lower cesarean section rates, and higher satisfaction with their birth experience. There were no significant differences in neonatal outcomes between the two groups. Conclusion: Implementing childbirth preparation classes positively influences maternal self-efficacy and improves several pregnancy outcomes. Integrating such programs into routine antenatal care can enhance maternal confidence and promote safer, more positive birth experiences

Abstract

Introduction: The behavior of pregnant women in caring for pregnancy is influenced by the environment, culture, and lifestyle of the community. This study aimed to analyze the behavior of pregnant women and their nutritional status during pregnancy contributes to the incidence of pre-eclampsia  in rural areas. Methods: This study used a cross-sectional approach to 210 pregnant women who visited a community health center in East Java, Indonesia, in the period June 2020-February 2022. Potential risk factors, including maternal behavior in care during pregnancy, and obesity were evaluated as determinants of pre-eclampsia and its subtypes. The assessment instrument uses a structured questionnaire and has been tested for validity and reliability. Logistic regression analysis was used to determine potential risk factors. Odds ratios with 95% confidence intervals (CI) were calculated to estimate the effects of individual factors. All statistical analyses were performed with SPSS version 22.0 with a p-value < 0.05 considered significant. Results: There were 65 (31%) pregnant women experiencing pre-eclampsia from 210 samples. Maternal behavior during pregnancy could predict the incidence of pre-eclampsia (p = 0.001; 95% CI 0.121-0.583; OR = 0.266) while obesity was able to predict pre-eclampsia (p = 0.00; 95% CI 1.705-5.209; OR = 3.00). the age of pregnant women p = 0.014; 95% CI 1.143-3,355; OR = 1.959), and history of hypertension p = 0.036; 95% CI 1.053 – 4.550; OR = 2.189). Conclusions: The behavior and nutritional status of pregnant women have been proven to influence the incidence of pre-eclampsia.

Abstract

Integrated Service Post (Posyandu) cadres are the spearhead of service delivery at the most basic level. They are required to provide services to help pregnant women understand their health issues. This activity aims to analyze the effectiveness of training and health education on cadre knowledge. The research design for this community service activity used a quasi-experimental approach with a one-group pretest-posttest design. The study was conducted with 18 Posyandu cadres in Kemiri Village. The implementation phase included pre- and post-tests to assess the effectiveness of the training and health education activities. The training, using a participatory and applied approach, provided cadres with information on nutrition for pregnant women, how to identify nutritional disorders, how to assist pregnant women in meeting their nutritional needs, and knowledge about purple sweet potato-based snack foods for pregnant women. The instrument used to measure cadre knowledge was a questionnaire with 20 multiple-choice questions. Data analysis used the non-parametric Wilcoxon Signed-Rank Test. The results of the activity showed an average pre-test score for Posyandu cadres of (8.28 ± 0.57) and an average post-test score of (9.39 ± 0.85). Therefore, it can be concluded that there was an increase in the average pre-test and post-test scores for Posyandu cadres. Meanwhile, the analysis of the effectiveness of training and education on maternal nutrition on Posyandu cadres' knowledge showed a P-value of 0.001, thus concluding that training and health education effectively improved cadres' knowledge of maternal nutrition. Cadres, as the most basic service providers, must always receive the latest information to support their duties. Furthermore, the involvement of community leaders and cross-sectoral stakeholders is essential to increase community support and participation.

Abstract

Stunting remains a serious child health problem in Indonesia as it has long-term impacts on physical growth, cognitive development, and future productivity. One of the preventive measures that can be implemented is nutrition education based on local resources as a form of community empowerment. This community service activity aimed to improve the knowledge of mothers in Silo Village regarding the benefits of rice bran as an alternative source of nutrition for stunting prevention. The method applied was health education with a participatory approach, involving 24 mothers as participants. Data were analyzed descriptively to present participant characteristics and changes in knowledge. The results showed that the average age of participants was 36.4 years, the majority had a senior high school education, were unemployed, had a monthly income of less than IDR 1,000,000, and an average of two children. About 52.2% of participants had previously attended health education activities. Knowledge of rice bran as an alternative nutritious food increased significantly after the intervention (p=0.002; CI95% 0.225–0.906). These findings indicate that simple nutrition education can effectively improve community understanding of local food potential. In conclusion, the utilization of rice bran can serve as an innovative local-based strategy to support stunting prevention. This activity not only enhanced mothers’ knowledge of local nutrition but also created economic opportunities through the sustainable processing of rice bran–based products. In addition, it encouraged follow-up initiatives in the form of training on rice bran–based food processing, which has the potential to strengthen community self-reliance and empowerment in a sustainable manner.

Abstract

Abstract

Preeclampsia is a pregnancy complication that contributes to maternal morbidity and mortality, while the knowledge of posyandu cadres and pregnant women regarding preeclampsia prevention remains limited, particularly in the utilization of local nutritious food. The main problem faced by the community partners was the low level of understanding among cadres and pregnant women about preeclampsia and the suboptimal use of edamame as an alternative nutritional source for its prevention. This community service program aimed to empower posyandu cadres through health education and training in processing edamame into an easy-to-consume beverage for pregnant women. The methods applied included socialization, education on preeclampsia and the nutritional benefits of edamame, as well as demonstrations and hands-on training in preparing edamame latte. The activity involved 6 posyandu cadres, 2 midwives, 4 pregnant women, and 17 mothers with toddlers at Posyandu Dahlia 35, Glagahwero Village, Jember Regency. The results showed an increase in knowledge regarding preeclampsia prevention among participants by 95% and an improvement in skills related to edamame processing by 95%. This program had a positive impact on strengthening the role of posyandu cadres as community health educators and promoting the utilization of local food resources as a supportive strategy for preventing preeclampsia at the community level.
