Abstract

This study analyzes the lexemes used in plagiarism-related reporting on the Koreaboo news portal through a lexical-semantic approach. The data consist of 141 English-language articles published between April 2023 and April 2024. The study employs a qualitative descriptive method using content analysis. The findings show five lexemes used to frame plagiarism-related issues: plagiarize, copy, steal, borrow, and mimic. Among them, plagiarize denotes plagiarism lexically, while copy undergoes semantic narrowing, steal shifts metaphorically from physical theft to idea theft, borrow shows semantic broadening, and mimic refers to excessive imitation with negative evaluation. These findings indicate that Koreaboo constructs plagiarism meanings progressively through lexical choice and discourse context. Theoretically, the study supports the view that lexical meaning is strongly shaped by context. Practically, it shows that news language is not neutral, as it also shapes readers’ judgments about plagiarism issues.

Kata Kunci: Analisis wacana kritis, Representasi aktor sosial, Theo van Leeuwen, Republika   Abstract This research examines the representation of social actors in the news coverage of the Israel-Iran war in the online media outlet Republika during June 2025. This study aims to describe the social actors of Israel in the news using the social actor representation approach, the critical discourse analysis model by Theo van Leeuwen. A qualitative, descriptive method was used in this research, while the analysis technique employed was distributional analysis, which uses the language itself as the determining tool. The research results show that the online media Republika explicitly reports on Israeli social actors such as the state of Israel, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, and Israeli officials by representing them more thoroughly through inclusion strategies such as Determination-Indeterminacy, Nomination-Identification, Nomination-Categorization, Objectivation-Abstraction, Differentiation-Indifferentiation, and Assimilation-Individualization, so that readers clearly understand what these actors are doing. These findings highlight the important role of the media in conveying information and reproducing reality for readers. Abstract

This study examines how recurring human-centered metaphors construct Indonesia’s diplomatic identity and represent the country as a political actor in the international speeches of President Prabowo Subianto. Drawing on Critical Metaphor Analysis (CMA) and the Metaphor Identification Procedure (MIP), the study analyzes sixteen English-language speeches delivered during the first year of Prabowo’s presidency. Metaphorical expressions were identified through systematic linguistic analysis and subsequently interpreted through conceptual mapping and critical explanation. The findings reveal two dominant metaphorical patterns: interpersonal relationship metaphors and human body metaphors. Indonesia and its international partners are frequently represented as “friends,” “brothers,” and members of a “human family,” while global issues and national characteristics are framed through expressions such as “lungs of the earth,” “embedded in our DNA,” and “welcome with open arms.” These metaphors portray Indonesia as cooperative, inclusive, globally engaged, and environmentally responsible. At the ideological level, they function to promote solidarity, legitimacy, and mutual cooperation while simultaneously obscuring strategic interests, power asymmetries, and geopolitical tensions. The study demonstrates that human-centered metaphors serve not only as cognitive and rhetorical devices but also as ideological resources for constructing national identity and shaping international perceptions. By highlighting the role of metaphor in diplomatic communication, this research contributes to the fields of metaphor studies, political discourse analysis, and international political communication.
