Abstract

This study aims to describe Indonesian language learning strategies in increasing student activeness at SMAN 8 Muaro Jambi using biographical text material. The method used is descriptive qualitative with data collection through direct observation, semi-structured interviews with Indonesian language teachers, and documentation. The results show that teachers implement Problem-Based Learning (PBL) strategies combined with varied methods including lectures, questions and answers, discussions, practice, and simulation. This strategy is proven effective in encouraging student activeness, as evidenced by the fulfillment of all 20 observation indicators across five components: learning planning, learning implementation, student activities, learning media, and evaluation. Obstacles encountered include low reading interest, regional language interference, and the influence of gadgets. These findings indicate that PBL with adaptive media and structured evaluation can increase student activeness in Indonesian language learning.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan nilai-nilai pendidikan karakter dalam film animasi Si Juki The Movie: Harta Pulau Monyet karya Faza Meonk. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif deskriptif dengan metode analisis isi. Data penelitian berupa dialog dalam film yang mengandung nilai pendidikan karakter. Teknik pengumpulan data dilakukan melalui observasi dengan cara menonton film secara berulang dan mencatat bagian yang relevan. Analisis data menggunakan model Miles dan Huberman yang meliputi, penyajian data, interpretasi, dan penarikan kesimpulan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa terdapat delapan nilai pendidikan karakter, yaitu kejujuran, tanggung jawab, keadilan, kepedulian, kontrol diri, keberanian, empati dan kerjasama. Nilai-nilai tersebut disajikan melalui dialog dan dianalisis secara kontekstual sehingga film animasi Si Juki The Movie: Harta Pulau Monyet dapat digunakan sebagai sumber belajar dalam pembelajaran anak karena mengandung nilai pendidikan karakter yang relevan dengan perkembangan peserta didik. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian dan pembahasan, dapat disimpulkan bahwa film animasi Si Juki The Movie: Harta Pulau Monyet mengandung berbagai nilai pendidikan karakter yang relevan untuk pembelajaran anak.

Abstract

This research aims to describe the representation of emotional intelligence in a bilingual Indonesian–Jambi Malay children’s story and its implications for multiliteracy learning for beginning readers. The object of this research is a children's storybook titled Batu Tuo Si Fosil Kayu by Eko Wahyudi. The research data consists of words, phrases, sentences, dialogues, narratives, and illustrations. The data source is a bilingual Indonesian–Jambi Malay children's storybook titled Batu Tuo Si Fosil Kayu by Eko Wahyudi, published by the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education in 2024. This research used a descriptive qualitative approach. The data were analyzed using the five components of emotional intelligence, as described by to Daniel Goleman’s theory. The research instrument was the researcher, with data analysis techniques including data classification, analysis, and interpretation, as well as the design of teaching materials for literacy learning. The results indicate that all indicators of emotional intelligence—namely self-awareness, emotional regulation, motivation, empathy, and social skills—are present in the analyzed children’s story. The most dominant indicators are empathy and social skills, reflected through character interactions. Furthermore, this bilingual children’s story features a simple plot, communicative language, and contextual illustrations, making it suitable for beginning readers. Therefore, a bilingual Indonesian–Jambi Malay children’s story has the potential to serve as an alternative, multiliteracies-based instructional material to strengthen the emotional intelligence of beginning readers.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the narrative structure in the short story collection Memburu Muhammad by Feby Indirani by applying Seymour Chatman’s theoretical framework, which distinguishes between the components of story and discourse. The research is grounded in the need to understand how contemporary literary works construct meaning through narrative organization, particularly those addressing social, spiritual, and humanistic issues. The data consist of textual excerpts, events, actions, characters, and discourse elements found in five selected short stories Rahasia Rumah Kami, Bakso Terenak di Dunia, Dia Bertanya Tentang Tuhan, Kisah Cinta Azazil, and Melukis Tuhan, with the short story collection serving as the primary data source. Data were collected through close reading, observation, and note-taking, followed by systematic classification using Chatman’s analytical categories. The analysis employed a qualitative descriptive method by reducing data, identifying the structure of story and discourse, interpreting their narrative functions, and examining how both components interact to shape the thematic meaning of each story. Data validation was conducted through theoretical triangulation and referential adequacy to ensure the accuracy of interpretation. The results show that all five stories exhibit coherent story structures composed of kernels, character actions, events, characterizations, and settings, while their discourse elements appear through variations in narrative sequencing, flexible points of view, and symbolic-reflective linguistic style. These findings indicate that Feby Indirani successfully integrates story and discourse to create meaningful narratives that are communicative, aesthetically rich, and capable of encouraging readers to engage critically with moral, spiritual, and humanistic issues.
