Abstract

Respiratory Distress Syndrome (RDS) is one of the main causes of neonatal morbidity and mortality, especially in premature infants. Interventional approaches such as Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) with the knee-chest position are considered effective for improving oxygen saturation. However, research on the effect of this position on infants with RDS in Indonesia is still limited. This study aims to describe oxygen saturation in infants with respiratory distress syndrome (RDS) who use CPAP with the knee-chest position at Pariaman Regional Hospital. This study is a quantitative study with a cross-sectional design. The population consisted of all infants with RDS who used CPAP in the NICU room at Pariaman Hospital. A total of 15 infants were selected as samples using purposive sampling technique. Data collection was done with a questionnaire to record respondent characteristics (gender, gestational age, birth weight, type of delivery) and an observation sheet to measure oxygen saturation. Data analysis was performed using statistical software with descriptive tests, including frequency distributions and percentages. The majority of infants (66.7%) were male, with a gestational age of 34-37 weeks (80%), birth weight of 1500-2499 grams (66.7%), and delivered by caesarean section (66.7%). Oxygen saturation increased significantly after knee-chest positioning, from a mean of 94.40% before intervention on the first day to 98.73% after intervention on the third day. Statistical analysis showed that the change in oxygen saturation value was statistically significant (p<0.05). The knee-chest position effectively improves oxygen saturation in infants with RDS using CPAP. This intervention can be recommended as part of the neonatal nursing care protocol to improve oxygenation quality and support infant recovery.

Abstract

Puskesmas Ambacang merupakan satu dari tiga fasilitas pelayanan kesehatan tingkat 1 di Kecamatan Kuranji Kota Padang. Puskesmas Ambacang meliputi 4 kelurahan sebagai wilayah kerjanya. Wilayah kerja Puskesmas ini berada di pusat kota dan di pinggir jalan utama sehingga beresiko terjadinya berbagai kejadian yang dapat mencederai pada balita akibat kecelakaan lalu lintas maupun kecelakaan selama berada di dalam rumah. Mitra pada IbDM ini yaitu kelompok keluarga di Kelurahan Anduring sebanyak 20 orang. Permasalahan mitra yang dirumuskan yaitu rendahnya pengetahuan dan keterampilan dalam mengidentifikasi cedera pada anak dan upaya antisipasi yang dapat dilakukan di rumah sebagai akibat kurangnya wawasan dan keterampilan tentang panduan antisipasi cedera. Oleh karena itu pemberian edukasi kesehatan merupakan salah satu alternatif yang dapat diberikan. Setelah diberikan edukasi kesehatan telah dapat meningkatkan wawasan dan ilmu pengetahuan mengenai identifikasi dan penanganan cedera pada anak yang sangat penting dalam membangun sikap yang positif dan membentuk perilaku yang tepat sehingga dapat menjadi karakter sebagai caregiver anak.

Abstract

Stunting remains a serious public health issue in Indonesia, particularly among children under five years of age. One of the main causes of stunting is the lack of understanding and practice of balanced nutrition, especially among pregnant women and mothers with toddlers. This community service activity aims to improve the knowledge of pregnant women regarding balanced nutrition as an effort to prevent stunting. The implementation stages include preparation, execution, and monitoring and evaluation. The community service activity was carried out on August 27, 2025, in the working area of Bungus Health Center, Padang. The participants in the community service were 10 pregnant women. The activity lasted for 120 minutes, including a pre-test on pregnant women's knowledge of nutrition and pregnancy, blood sugar and hemoglobin tests to identify pregnancy complications, providing education on nutrition during pregnancy, and a post-test. The mean knowledge score increased from 7.10 before the intervention to 8.70 after the intervention. Statistical analysis using a paired t-test showed a significant improvement in knowledge (p = 0.005). These results indicate the need for periodic health education for pregnant women during antenatal visits, especially regarding pregnancy care related to meeting nutritional needs during pregnancy.
