Abstract

Seagrass ecosystem is part of the marine ecosystem that has quite important ecological role. Halophila ovalis and Thalassia hemprichii are seagrass species have the potential to become an agent of phytoremediation by determining the concentration of heavy metals Pb and Cd that have accumulated in them. This study was conducted in January 2018 in Southern Serangan Beach. The purpose of investigating the concentration of heavy metals in water, sediments, roots and leaves of seagrass and determine the bioaccumulation, translocation character and can be made as an agent for phytoremediation. The method used is purposive random sampling method, determined by 3 point. The point is determined from the condition closest to the port Benoa to the outermost point the bay mouth. Determination of station points is considering the presence of the most seagrasses. Results obtained in this study obtained average Pb concentration in water 0.0521 ppm, average metal Cd 0.1652 ppm, the average sediment Pb 75.8574 ppm, Cd 15.33593 ppm, concentration of Pb and Cd in roots and leaves of H. ovalis and T. hemprichii respectively Pb 42.4940 ppm, 45.5334 ppm, and 35.6207 ppm, 38.3931 ppm. Metal Cd 12.9708 ppm 14.8581 ppm Bioaccumulation value of seagrass is accumulator plants. Value of Pb and Cd translocation factors in seagrass H. ovalis (phyto-extraction) seagrass T. hemprichii Pb (phyto-extraction) and Cd (fitostabilization) phytoremediation values by both types of seagrass are greater in remediating heavy metal cadmium, meaning that both types of seagrass are better used for phytoremediation agents of heavy metal cadmium.

Abstract

Longtail tuna (Thunnus tonggol) is one of the oceanodromus neritic species and the migration pattern follows the water currents. Currently, this species has not been widely studied in Indonesian waters, so it is nesessary to study the identification of morphology and genetic diversity. The molecular approach employed in this study is DNA barcoding using mitochondrial D – loop locus. This study can explain the importance of species genetic information in stability and resilience. This study aims to determine the identification of morphology, phylogenetic and genetic diversity of longtail tuna at two locations in PPI Kedonganan, Bali dan PPP Muncar, Banyuwangi. The molecular analysis was done in several stages, i.e DNA extraction, Polymerase Chain Reaction, electrophoresis and sequencing. Based on the result of sequencing and analysis, 33 samples of longtail tuna was found. The result of phylogenetic tree reconstruction from two locations showed one clade with genetic distance value among longtail tuna species ranging from 0.000 – 0.042 for all close kinship samples. The haplotype diversity (Hd) value of longtail tuna was 0.9905 and nucleotide diversity (?) was 0.020. The high value of genetic diversity indicated that two longtail tuna populations have a high survival ability to adapt on environmental changes. Index fixation analysis (Fst) has a value of 0.0299, p - value > 0.05. The index fixation value indicated no significant population difference. The result of this study can be use as basic data in planning genetic conservation strategies with sustainable fisheries management efforts. Keywords: Tuna; Thunnus tonggol; Genetic Marker

Abstract

Thalassia hemprichii is one of the seagrass as favorite food of two protected herbivores such as Green Turtle and Dugong. The existence of Thalassia hemprichii and knowing the growth rate becomes very important for sustainability of two herbivores. The study was conducted in Tanjung Benoa waters that covering three parts of the coast such as Samuh, Conrad and Tanjung beach in February until March 2017. Thalassia hemprichii leaves growth is observed consist of long and heavy growth (dry weight) and measured leaf age that has been observed such as young, half old and old leaves. The method that used to measure the growth of Thalassia hemprichii is pruning method and determination the research location using purposive sampling method. The aim of this research is explained the growth rate, biomass, and productivity of young leaves, old leaves of Thalassia hemprichii in Tanjung Benoa Bali. Measurement results of Thalassia hemprichii growth between age group of leaves has different young leaves faster growth if compared with the half old leaves and old leaves with average growth is 3.41mm/day indicates that the efficiency of this seagrass growth will decrease as the leaves age. The highest biomass values ??were found in older leaves if compared with young leaves and half-old leaves with average 0.205 gbk/m2 expected because the thick and wide leaf size will produced larger leaf biomass. The highest productivity value is found in oldest leaves in each station with average 0.028 gbk/m2/day expected morphology and different nutrient content in each leaf tissue.

Abstract

Plankton is one of the biological resources that have an important role in the marine ecosystem. Plankton life is strongly influenced by the water quality parameters, one of which is the content of nutrients (nitrates and phosphates). Increased nutrient content caused by the increased load input from human activities. Serangan Island waters including the coastal ecosystem is widely used for a variety of human activities, such as tourism, aquaculture, residential, and transportation. All human activity will affect water quality will lead to an increase in nutrients and organic matter which in turn can lead to changes in water quality chemical physics and structure of plankton. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship of the abundance and diversity of phytoplankton abundance and diversity of zooplankton and to know the physical parameters - chemical effect on the abundance of plankton. The method used is the Pearson correlation analysis to determine the relationship between abundance and diversity of phytoplankton abundance and diversity of zooplankton, and principal component analysis to look at the parameters of the water the most influence on the abundance of plankton. Results of Principal Component Analysis showed that the waters of the parameters that influence the abundance of plankton varies at each observation station. Pearson correlation analysis showed a strong relationship between the abundance of phytoplankton to zooplankton abundance with a correlation value of 0.64.

Abstract

The ecosystem of mangroves and seagrass in Mertasari Beach are located nearby and and inhabited with various species that coexist, One of the association’s creature in mangrove ecosystem and seagrass ecosystem is crab. There were a habitat selection of crabs, so it does possible to find the same species in the mangrove ecosystem and seagrass ecosystem. This research aims to know the type, abundance and diversity of crabs in the Mertasari Beach on two different ecosystems such as mangrove and seagrass ecosystem. The research were conducted in January until February 2017. In this research the Random sampling method was used to create a 1x1m2 square placed on 5 substations at each research station. Crab sampling was conducted at the lowest tide and has been done twice in a month. The results showed there were 7 families with 20 species. In both ecosystem were found 3 spesies such as Scylla serrata, Grapsus albolineatus and Myomenippe fornasinii. This happens because of several factors, like the tidal and the flow of the river into habitat removal by crabs. The highest abundance of crabs was found in mangrove stations of 411 individuals/m2, while at the seagrass station were 93 individuals/m2 due to food availability and environmental conditions. The highest value diversity index (H) at mangrove station was 1.94 and seagrass station of 1.73 with moderate category indicated in those area had sufficient productivity, conditions of the ecosystem is pretty balanced and moderate ecological pressure.

Abstract

Zooplankton play a significant role in ecosystem as secondary producer. Climate change will potentially affect the abundance and global composition of zooplankton. This research aimed to study the geographical variation of zooplankton abundance relative to anthropogenic pressure. The research was conducted in April 2014 in area with presumably distinct anthropogenic level by its relative distance to the mainland of Jakarta. Samples were collected at Pramuka Island, Karang Beras Island, Kotok Island, and Sepa Island where subsequently lying to the nearest until furthest distance from mainland. Zooplankton samples were collected by towing the plankton net for 10 minutes for each site for three replicates. Abundance was obtained from Pramuka Island was 266698,214 ind/L, Karang Beras Island was 597363,1 ind/L, Kotok Island was 526447,8 ind/L and Sepa Island was 438225,3 ind/L. Overall, the closer to mainland, the richer nutrient and the more abundant zooplankton was conceived in the waters. Surprisingly, in Pramuka Island, the nearest island to mainland among other sites, had the lowest abundance of zooplankton although nutrient level was the richest among others.
