Abstract

Snakehead (Channa striata) is a type of freshwater fish. Artificial feed generally contains animal and vegetable protein sources. The use of vegetable protein in snakehead has been carried out. However, it is still not optimal due to the presence of phytic acid in vegetable materials which makes fish unable to digest food properly. Therefore, it is necessary to add a phytase enzyme to hydrolyze phytic acid. This study aims to determine the effect of adding phytase with different doses to artificial feed on growth, protein efficiency ratio, feed efficiency, and survival of snakehead. This study used a completely randomized design (CRD) which consisted of four treatments and three replications, namely P0 (without the addition of phytase), P1 (addition of phytase 30 mg/100 g vegetable material), P2 (addition of phytase 50 mg/100 g vegetable material), P3 (addition of phytase 70 mg/100 g vegetable material). The size of the fish used in this study was 3-4 cm, with a stocking density of 2 fish/L fish. The rearing of the study was 30 days. The results showed that the addition of phytase 70 mg/100g vegetable material (P3) was the best result with absolute weight growth (1.49 g), absolute length growth (2.48 cm), feed efficiency (79.44%), protein efficiency ratio (2.03%), and survival (100%).

Abstract

The catfish cultivation business carried out by UPR Doa Mandeh since 2015 still requires support in the form of assistance and training for its development. Meanwhile, the availability of fish seeds in South Sumatra is still very dependent on other regions, such as Lampung, Jambi and West Java. The lack of use of appropriate catfish cultivation technology and the use of commercial feed has an impact on the low production of fish seeds produced. Apart from that, there has been no effort to treat waste water which has the potential to have a negative impact on the surrounding environment. For this reason, community service (PPM) is carried out, which applies lecture materials, research and publications that have been carried out by the proposing team in the form of application of biofloc technology, making liquid fertilizer and cultivating herbal plants. The aim and benefits of carrying out this activity are to develop the catfish cultivation business, increase seed production, utilize waste water from catfish rearing media into liquid fertilizer products that can be used to develop herbal plant cultivation which will ultimately increase the income of cultivators at UPR Doa Mandeh. The activity model is in the form of empowerment, development and assistance which is implemented using counseling, training and technical/production assistance methods. The results of this activity are high survival and growth rates for catfish, water quality is in the optimal range, and the richness of nutrients in wastewater from the biofloc system can be used as liquid fertilizer for herbal plants.    Keywords: biofloc; catfish; herbal plants; liquid fertilizer

Abstract

As a maritime country, Indonesia relies heavily on the aquaculture sector, including freshwater aquaculture. Freshwater aquaculture has been widely practised in the aquaculture of nila tilapia fish (Oreochromis niloticus). The obstacle that often arises in nila tilapia fish culture is the low growth of fish. Factors that cause low fish growth are the low ability of fish to digest the feed given. The papain enzyme can be used as a protein catalyst in feed, increasing growth rates and reducing production costs. This study was conducted from November to December 2022 at the Seberang Ulu 1 District, Palembang, South Sumatra. This study used an experimental method with treatment P0 being the control (without adding the papain enzyme) and P1 being the treatment with adding the papain enzyme at a dose of 2.25%. The P1 treatment produced the highest results: the absolute length growth of 3.49 cm, the absolute weight of tilapia of 9.8 g, feed efficiency of 98.30% and survival of 88.80%.
