Abstract

Advances in early detection and treatment have improved breast cancer survival rates; However, survivors often face psychosocial challenges such as Fear of Cancer Recurrence (FCR) and unmet needs. FCR refers to anxiety or worry about cancer returning, while unmet needs represent the gap between the support required and that received—particularly in emotional and informational aspects. Understanding their interplay is vital for developing comprehensive, needs-based nursing interventions. This study aimed to systematically review the relationship between FCR and unmet needs among breast cancer survivors, focusing on prevalence, contributing factors, and their impact on quality of life and health-related behaviors such as screening adherence and healthcare utilization. A systematic search was conducted across PubMed, Scopus, and ProQuest using the keywords “fear of cancer recurrence,” “unmet needs,” and “breast cancer survivors.” Articles written in English with systematic reviews, cross-sectional, cohort, qualitative, or mixed-methods designs were included. From 1,414 identified studies, eight met inclusion criteria and were analyzed qualitatively following PRISMA guidelines. Moderate to high FCR levels were found in 50–70% of survivors, and 60–70% reported at least one unmet need, mainly emotional and informational. Higher FCR levels were strongly associated with increased unmet needs. Unmet needs mediated FCR's impact on health behaviors, leading to lower screening participation and higher unplanned healthcare use. Younger age, comorbidities, and low social support exacerbated both factors. FCR and unmet needs are interrelated psychosocial issues affecting survivors' emotional well-being and behavior. Oncology nursing should integrate structured assessments and tailored interventions to improve survivors' quality of life.

Abstract

Young women with breast cancer experience complex psychosocial challenges resulting from physical, emotional, and social changes during treatment, which significantly affect their quality of life (QoL). Objective to identify and analyze psychosocial aspects influencing the quality of life among young women with breast cancer. This systematic review followed the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines. Literature searches were conducted across five databases (PubMed, ScienceDirect, Scopus, Sage Journals, and Taylor & Francis) for studies published between 2015 and 2025. Inclusion criteria included young women (≤40 years) diagnosed with breast cancer, using quantitative observational designs (cross-sectional or prospective cohort). A total of 11 eligible studies from 5761 articles were included and analyzed narratively. Five major themes influencing QoL were identified: (1) psychological distress (anxiety, depression, and fear of cancer recurrence); (2) sexual dysfunction and negative body image; (3) reproductive and fertility concerns; (4) social support and partner relationships; and (5) long-term QoL decline up to five years post-diagnosis, which is improved with strong social support and adaptive coping strategies. Psychosocial factors have a significant impact on the quality of life of young women with breast cancer. A holistic nursing approach that integrates psychological, social, and family support is essential to enhance emotional well-being and improve the long-term quality of life of these patients.

Abstract

Heart failure has high morbidity and mortality rates, with a prevalence ranging from 1–2% in the adult population, increasing to more than 10% in people over 70 years of age. Self-care abilities are very low. Technologies such as mHealth, telemonitoring, and SMS can support the education and monitoring of heart failure patients. Objective to evaluate the impact of digital self-care education interventions on improving the behavior and quality of life of heart failure patients. A systematic literature review was conducted using the PRISMA 2020 guidelines, searching databases including PubMed, ScienceDirect, Wiley Online Library, and Clinical Key for Nursing from 2020 to 2025. 10 articles meeting the criteria were identified and analyzed using the JBI tool and 10 article in review. Digital interventions such as mHealth applications, Bluetooth, and educational SMS messages can improve self-care maintenance, symptom recognition, adherence, and quality of life in patients (p < 0.05–0.001). Like medication reminders, symptom alarms can improve and strengthen self-care. However, changes in patient behavior have not fully affected key indicators, such as NT-proBNP, for short-term hospitalization. Digital self-care can improve self-care behaviors among nurses in educating heart failure patients and has the potential to increase independence and quality of life. Long-term research is needed to examine the effect on symptom severity in heart failure patients.

Abstract

Cancer patients in Indonesia continue to experience substantial inequalities in accessing healthcare services, driven by structural, geographical, financial, and informational barriers. These disparities often result in delayed diagnosis, fragmented care, and adverse health outcomes. This study aimed to explore the lived experiences of cancer patients receiving navigation services from Cancer Patient Navigators (NAPAK) and to examine how these experiences reflect broader patterns of healthcare access inequality. A qualitative descriptive phenomenological design was employed, involving ten purposively selected participants who met the inclusion criteria. Data were collected through in‑depth interviews and analyzed using thematic analysis supported by NVivo 14 software. Four major themes emerged from the analysis: (1) various healthcare access inequalities, including saturated schedules, complex administrative procedures, geographical distance, financial constraints, and appointment difficulties; (2) the primary role of cancer patient navigators, who provided essential informational, procedural, emotional, and advocacy support throughout the care continuum; (3) transportation and access disparities, highlighting both accessible and severely limited mobility conditions across regions; and (4) the impact of healthcare access disparities on health, reflected in heightened anxiety, psychological distress, physical exhaustion, and emotional burden. Participants also expressed expectations for improved navigation services, enhanced facilities, clearer information systems, and stronger governmental support for insurance programs. The study concludes that healthcare access inequality significantly shapes cancer patients’ physical and psychological well‑being. Strengthening communication between healthcare providers and patients, improving navigation services, and enhancing policy support are critical to reducing disparities and promoting equitable cancer care. Keywords: cancer patient navigation; healthcare access inequality; transportation barriers; patient experience

Abstract

Background: Stroke is one of the leading causes of long-term disability and morbidity worldwide. Post-stroke depression (PSD) is a common psychological complication that negatively affects recovery, functional outcomes, and quality of life. Psychological resilience is considered a key factor in helping patients adapt to post-stroke challenges; however, evidence regarding effective interventions to strengthen resilience in patients with PSD remains limited. Purpose: To evaluate the effectiveness of interventions that potentially enhance resilience-related components in patients with post-stroke depression and to provide evidence-based recommendations for nursing and clinical practice. Method: A systematic review was conducted in accordance with the PRISMA 2020 guidelines. Literature searches were performed across five databases such as PubMed, Scopus, ScienceDirect, ProQuest, and Wiley using the keywords post-stroke depression, resilience, and intervention. Randomized controlled trials published in English that involved PSD patients and reported psychological outcomes related to resilience were included. Of 9,241 identified records, nine studies involving 779 participants met the inclusion criteria and were analyzed using narrative synthesis. Results: Psychological interventions, including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Mindfulness-Based Interventions (MBI), showed significant improvements in psychological flexibility (25–35%), mindfulness (20–32%), and coping ability (15–25%), alongside a significant reduction in depressive symptoms (p < 0.001). Physical-based interventions such as Tai Chi and Yijinjing Qigong were associated with improved emotional regulation and reductions in depressive symptoms of up to 45%. Technology-assisted approaches, particularly Virtual Reality interventions, reduced depressive symptoms by up to 22%. Pharmacological treatments demonstrated faster mood improvement but showed limited effects on strengthening psychological resilience. Conclusion: ACT, MBI, and structured physical exercise appear to be the most effective interventions for enhancing resilience-related components and alleviating depressive symptoms in patients with post-stroke depression. Future studies are recommended to directly measure resilience outcomes and examine the long-term sustainability of these interventions.

Abstract

Cancer remains one of the leading causes of mortality worldwide, with over 20 million newly diagnosed cases and nearly 10 million deaths globally, as reported by the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) in 2020. In Indonesia, the incidence reached 408,661 new cases with 242,988 cancer-related deaths recorded in 2022. This growing burden has resulted in numerous clinical implications, with pain identified as the most frequently reported symptom among cancer patients, significantly impairing their quality of life. Among emerging approaches in pain management, non-pharmacological interventions such as hypnotherapy have gained attention due to their potential to reduce pain intensity without inducing serious adverse effects. This systematic review aims to evaluate the effectiveness of hypnosis therapy in managing cancer-related pain by analyzing six selected studies sourced from five international databases: ScienceDirect, EBSCO, PubMed, ProQuest, and Sage Journals. All included studies met the eligibility criteria, comprising randomized controlled trials (RCTs) and one meta-analysis, published within the last ten years. Five out of the six studies demonstrated that hypnosis interventions were effective in reducing pain intensity, while one study showed no statistically significant effect. Additionally, several studies explored integrative approaches combining hypnosis with complementary modalities such as music therapy and cognitive behavioral therapy. The findings of this review suggest that hypnotherapy serves as a promising complementary intervention to support effective pain management in oncology care. Further research employing more rigorous methodologies and larger sample sizes is recommended to strengthen the evidence base regarding its clinical utility.

Abstract

ABSTRACT Patient knee function is closely related to the ability to perform Activities of Daily Living (ADL) due to its connection with mobility. Patients with advanced Osteoarthritis (OA) require Total Knee Replacement (TKR) surgery. Currently, robotic-assisted technology is available for TKR procedures. Nurses play a crucial role in postoperative patient rehabilitation; therefore, the advent of Robotic-Assisted Total Knee Replacement (RA-TKR) technology necessitates nurses' attention in conducting rehabilitation processes related to patient knee function. To determine the knee function of patients undergoing RA-TKR surgery and its impact on nursing practice. A systematic review was conducted using electronic databases such as ClinicalKey, ClinicalKey Nursing, EbscoHost, ProQuest, PubMed, and ScienceDirect. Inclusion and exclusion criteria were established to obtain articles that could address the objectives. This systematic review followed the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines. Additionally, Critical Appraisal Tools from the Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI) were utilized. 2.081 articles collected that matched the keywords, 22 articles were analyzed after the PRISMA screening process. Knee function was measured using instruments such as KSS, WOMAC, KOOS, KSKS, KSFS, OKS, and the UCLA Activity Scale. Six articles found that RA-TKR could significantly improve patient knee function compared to Conventional TKR. Nurses, in this regard, should pay special attention to technology adoption and the care strategies required for pre-, intra-, and postoperative TKR patients with robotic assistance. Although most articles indicated no significant difference in knee function between RA-TKR and Conventional TKR patients, the presence of this technology still requires nurses' attention. Future adoption of technology and nursing care strategies for patients undergoing RA-TKR are necessary. Keywords: Knee Function, Robotic Assistance, Total Knee Replacement.  ABSTRAK Fungsi lutut pasien erat kaitannya dengan kemampuan untuk memenuhi Activity Daily Living (ADL) sebab berkaitan dengan mobilisasi.
