Abstract

Horticultural crops of olericultural types that were given a lot of chemical pesticides cause many negative impacts such as the emergence of pests and pathogens that were immune to pesticides, the emergence of new pests, increased pest populations and secondary pathogens, reduced populations of beneficial insects (predators). The study aimed to consider the use of pesticides by farmers to eradicate pests and diseases in horticulture and non-horticulture in South Sumatra. The research was conducted in South Sumatra Province. The research was conducted in 7 districts and 1 city, namely Indralaya District, North Indralaya District, Air Kumbang District, South Pemulutan District, Gelumbang District, Belitang Mulya District, Tanjung Batu District, and Palembang City, which was conducted from May to September 2022. Data were collected using the Secondary Variables method with Purposive sampling technique and processed into analyzed data. The results of this study showed that the most horticulture cultivated by farmers was eggplant(Solanum melongena L.). While for non-horticulture the most widely cultivated by farmers was corn(Zea mays). The percentage of pest attacks on non-horticultural land was 57.36%, the percentage of pest attacks on horticultural land was 68.28%. Variations in pest and disease attacks that occur in 180 farms on horticultural and non-horticultural crops in South Sumatra. Horticultural crops that are widely cultivated in South Sumatra include cucumber, long beans, and eggplant. Meanwhile, non-horticultural crops are corn, rice, and rubber. Spodoptera frugiperda was a pest that has been found to damage corn crops and Leptocorisa sp species that damage food crops (No Horticulture). Counseling was provided to farmers to find out the types of pests that could attack and the symptoms and diseases in plants to know how to control them.

Abstract

Red chili (Capsicum annuum L.) is one of important types of vegetables and also has many varieties that have distinctive colors and shapes, chili is also considerd as one of vegetable that has high economic value. Chili is usually consumed in from of fresh, dried and processed as vegetables and also seasonings, in addition to functioning as a food flavor enhancer. Many obstacles faced by farmers in chili cultivation are plant disturbing organisms such as pests and diseases. Some important pests that commonly attack chili plants are fruit flies (Bactrocera spp), armyworms (Spodoptera litura) and aphids (Aphis gossypii). The purpose of this field practice was to determine the diversity of arthropods and the intensity of pest attacks in Pagaralam City on ten chili fields with different ages. This field practice is expected to provide information about arthropod diversity and attack intensity, especially to farmers as the main actors in agriculture. This insect observation method is carried out using the Diagonal sampling method, Scan sampling (Visual observation) and observing the intensity of the attack. The results of the observations obtained are that the chili farmers have carried out the concept of integrated pest management, but they are not aware of it, and the pests obtained in the field are fruit flies (Bactrocera spp), armyworms (Spodoptera litura) and aphids (Aphis gossypii), and for arthropod diversity it varies on each land.

Abstract

Chili is one of the important commodities in Indonesia. Chili cultivation faces many obstacles, leading to a decrease in production, such as virus infections. Yellow leaf curl and curly top viruses are groups of viruses that are often found in chili fields. This research was conducted to investigate the effect of intercropping (basil-chili) in suppressing viral diseases, especially yellow leaf curl and curly top viruses. A Randomized block design was used for this research, including intercropping and monoculture. The parameters observed in this study included disease incidence and intensity, the number and weight of chilies. Symptoms of virus infection include leaf curl, yellowing, and stunting. The disease has been reported to be transmitted by insect vectors, such as Aphis gossypii and Bemisia tabaci. The results showed that the incidence and intensity of yellow leaf curl and curly top virus diseases in chili pepper and basil plants were not significantly different in each treatment. The number of healthy chilies and their weight were also not significantly different. Damaged chilies are fruits that have been attacked by fruit flies. Basil intercropped with chilies attracts fruit flies, which affects the quantity and weight of the harvested chilies. The population of B. tabaci was significantly different in each treatment, while A. gossypii did not show significant differences among the treatments. Intercropping basil and chili increased the population of A. gossypii, while the population of B. tabaci decreased in this treatment. These two insect pests are vectors for yellow leaf curl and curly top viruses.

Yanti P, Prasetyo CP, Zahra M, Nurjannah N, Apriani R, Anggreni UA, Umayah A, Gunawan B, Arsi A. 2022. The preference of various insect species in pan trap in long bean field (Vigna sinensis L.) in Ogan Ilir Regency, South Sumatera. In: Herlinda S et al. (Eds.), Prosiding Seminar Nasional Lahan Suboptimal ke-10 Tahun 2022, Palembang 27 Oktober 2022. pp. 524-532. Palembang: Penerbit & Percetakan Universitas Sriwijaya (UNSRI).Long bean (Vigna sinensis) is a vegetable crop that is often attacked by various species of insect pests, causing a decrease in the quality and quantity of plants that cause economic losses for farmers. This paper aimed to determine the interest of insect species to color preference as an alternative control of insect pests. Observations were carried out on long bean plantations in three villages, namely Tanjung Seteko, Tanjung Pering, and Permata Baru villages located in Ogan Ilir Regency, South Sumatra by using purposive sampling with 3 replications observed after 12 hours of installing pan traps which were red, yellow, green, and blue in the field. From research conducted on long bean fields in Ogan Ilir Regency, several orders of insects were obtained, namely the orders Coleoptera, Diptera, Hemiptera, Hymenoptera, Lepidoptera, Collembola, Orthoptera, and Thysanoptera. The total number of individual insects obtained in all trays in the field amounted to 1.005 insects. The level of insect species diversity on long bean plantations in Tanjung Seteko, Tanjung Pering, and Permata Baru villages were medium, low, and low, respectively. Insect species found in the long bean plantations are more attracted to the yellow tray. Among the four colors of the tray, insect species are more attracted to the yellow tray because the yellow color resembles the color of their food. The use of a yellow pan trap can be one on the insect pest control in long bean fields and can be a tool in monitoring insects in the field.

Inventory of fruit flies (Diptera: Tephritidae) on papaya plantation in Ogan Ilir Regency, South Sumatera. In: Herlinda S et al. (Eds.), Prosiding Seminar Nasional Lahan Suboptimal ke-10 Tahun 2022, Palembang  27 Oktober 2022. pp. 768-776. Palembang: Penerbit & Percetakan Universitas Sriwijaya (UNSRI).Management that can be done to reduce attacks from fruit flies is to use various traps such as the use of traps and aromas that are favored by fruit fly pests. The purpose of this study was to determine the species in papaya planting and determine the number of insect populations in Tanjung Pering Village, Permata Baru Village, and Timbangan Village, Ogan Ilir, South Sumatra. The method used in this study is the nisbi method, which is a method of looking at the population of fruit fly types by using heavy traps. From the research that has been carried out, as many as 15 steiner traps were successfully installed on papaya planting land in three villages. With the samples obtained, population counting and species identification in fruit flies can be done. There were 5 traps installed in Tanjung Pering Village, 5 traps in Permata Baru Village, and 5 traps in Timbangan Village. The steiner traps set in all three villages showed a diverse number of populations. As for the identification process, the results of the inventory of fruit flies on papaya planting fields were identified as species Bactrocera carambolae and B. kandiensis. The fruit flies that have been identified have differences from morphological characters, including thoracic color, abdominal pattern or pattern, wing shape, to the color of the limbs. The conclusion of the survey conducted in 3 villages was the number of samplings with the highest population was obtained in Timbangan Village and the lowest population was obtained in Tanjung Pering Village. That's why, further research must be held on these fruit flies, so that farmers get the right solution to overcome the problem of fruit fly pests that attack papaya plantations in Ogan Ilir regency, South Sumatra.

(pp.285-297).Palembang: Penerbit & Percetakan Universitas Sriwijaya (UNSRI).Pumpkin (Cucurbita moschata D.) can be used for various food preparations and contains high carotenoids. But now pumpkin production has decreased by 40% per year due to powdery mildew (Eryshipe cichoracearum). Symptoms of powdery mildew disease are marked white spots on the surface of the pumpkin leaves like flour. Biostimulants are believed to affect prevention of disease and pest attacks in the field. Purpose of this study was to determine the effect of biostimulants on the intensity of powdery mildew attacks on pumpkin and pest attacks. Research selected vegetative phase, observations made in the morning with the calculation of the percentage of powdery mildew disease using Natawigena formulation. There are 4 treatments, namely control, WB , RL and RL+WB , each treatment is 10 repetitions, 4x applications with a frequency of 1x a week, 5X observations. Results of the 2nd week the intensity of the disease increased due to rain after application with moist environmental conditions that support the growth of fungi. The effect of the 3 biostimulant treatments, can reduce the intensity of powdery mildew on pumpkin, was proven on the 3rd to 5th week, which is according to the data % severity of powdery mildew disease always decreases with a percentage of control that continues to increase. The percentage of influence of the greatest effectiveness in the treatment of WB, which is 95% powdery mildew and 2% Aulachopora similis pest control. In the application should see the weather conditions, so that the biostimulant applied can be optimally affected.

Oyong plant is a climbing plant/vine. Oyong plants need a dry climate, with sufficient water availability throughout the season. Agricultural cultivation systems are never free from pests or diseases. In the field of farmers, there is not much knowledge about plant diseases or the causes of the disease itself. For this reason, this research practice aims to determine the effect of intercropping on disease attacks on Oyong (Luffa acutangula) plants. Field practice has been carried out in Kuripan Village, Empat Petulai Dangku District, Muara Enim Regency, South Sumatra Province from May to June 2022. The observation method used in this field practice is the direct observation method in the field which is carried out by determining the land, the land being taken has different cropping patterns. Then determine the plants to be sampled using the diagonal method. The data collected were primary data in the form of direct observation of symptoms in the field and secondary data obtained from farmer interviews. From the observation, there were 2 types of diseases, namely brown spots and virus mosaic.

Agustine SD, Aprilia P, Cindi A, Putri RAA, Wati M, Adelia E, Umayah A, Gunawan B, Arsi A. 2022. Inventory of predatory insects (Coleoptera) on bitter melon (Momordica charantia) and long beans (Vigna sesquidpedalis) in Ogan Ilir, South Sumatra. In: Herlinda S et al. (Eds.), Prosiding Seminar Nasional Lahan Suboptimal ke-10 Tahun 2022, Palembang 27 Oktober 2022. pp. 674-681. Palembang: Penerbit & Percetakan Universitas Sriwijaya (UNSRI).Beetles (Coleoptera) are often known as an order of insects that have the greatest diversity of their species among other orders. Approximately about 25% pf the recognizable animals belong to the Coleoptera group, it is estimated that there are more than 100 families of Coleoptera that have been known by scientists, with a total 350,000 species. This study aimed to determine the number of predatory insect species of the order Coleoptera on the Bitter Melon (Momordica charantia) and Long beans (Vigna sesquipedalis) in Ogan Ilir, South Sumatra, Indonesia. In this survey, we conducted sampling on three lands located in Tanjung Seteko, Tanjung Pering and Timbangan in Ogan Ilir Regency, South Sumatra. In the process of identification we use the insect classification book and also sourced from the internet in order to identify insects correctly and measurably. There are 4 species of predatory insects of the order Coleoptera on the field of long bean plants (Vigna sesquipedalis) and the Bitter Melon plant land (Momordica charantia) in the village of Tanjung Seteko is obtained Cycloneda munda and Harmonia axyridis, in Tanjung Pering is also obtained Cycloneda munda and Harmonia axyridis, in Timbangan only one species of beetle Coleophora inaequalis was obtained, from all the three villages in Ogan Ilir Regency, South Sumatra, 4 species of beetles (Coleoptera) were found which acts as a predator consisting of Cycloneda munda, Coccinella transverselysis, Harmonia axyridis and Coelophora inaequalisn. For the highest number of predatory species are of the Coccinella transversalis species numbering 14 heads. In research the predatory insect Coleoptera is most commonly found in the field of Long Beans (Vigna sesquipedalis) for its habitat and niches. So that from  this research it is necessary to maintain the preservation of predatory insects of the order Coleoptera by not using chemical pesticides.
