Abstract

Background: Lack of understanding of Posyandu cadres and lack of measuring instruments (anthropometry) can affect the precision of measurement and interpretation in children with nutritional problems, particularly stunting. This study intends to examine if Posyandu cadres' knowledge of early stunting detection in the Sukabangun Public Health Center working region. Method: This study employs a quasi-experimental approach with a pre-test and post-test for a single group. This study's population consisted of 81 Posyandu cadres, and the sample size was 37. Results: The data were analyzed using a frequency test, specifically the paired sample t-test if the data were normal and the Wilcoxon test if they were not. The knowledge level of Posyandu cadres increased from 48.6% to 81.1% as a result. The proficiency level of Posyandu cadres in reading MCH books increased from 40.5% to 78.4%. In the meantime, the proficiency of Posyandu cadres in anthropometric measurements increased to 73% from 21% for infants and to 91% from 54% for children. Based on the bivariate analysis, there were disparities in the level of knowledge among Posyandu cadres ranging from 2.59 to 7.84. In addition, the degree of proficiency in reading MCH books increased from 5.27 to 11.46, stunting detection skills in toddlers increased from 2.03 to 6.73, and early detection skills of child stunting increased from 5.81 to 13.46. Therefore, the training was deemed effective overall. Conclusion: The training method for early detection of stunting at the research site is effective.

Abstract

Background: In 2022, SSGI data shows that Indonesia was 21.6% stunting, West Kalimantan 27.8%, and Bengkayang Regency 30.1%. This data shows that stunting is higher in Bengkayang Regency than in Indonesia and West Kalimantan. Intake of food is the direct cause of stunting. At 1000 HPK, intake has a significant impact on promoting growth and development in infants and toddlers. One way to reduce stunting rates is to increase knowledge about infant and child feeding (also known as PMBA). The purpose of this research is to determine the level of knowledge of mothers of toddlers in Tumiang Village, Bengkayang Regency's Quality Family Village (Kampung KB). Method: The study was conducted quasy-experimentally with a one-group pre-test and post-test design. The study's participants were 30 mothers with toddlers aged 6 to 59 months living in the Quality Family Village in Tumiang Village, Bengkayang Regency. Intervention carried out PMBA education four times in a month. Pre- and post-test questionnaires were used. The data were analysed using T-Paired. Results: The mother's knowledge level score before and after PMBA training ranged from 4.83 to 7.10. This indicates that the mother's knowledge score increased by 2.27 before and after PMBA training. The T-Paired test results in a 0.000 p-value < 0.05. Conclusion: Increasing mother's feeding knowledge before and after PMBA training can accelerate stunting reduction in Quality Family Village, Tumiang Village, Bengkayang Regency. Advice: PMBA training for toddler mothers can prevent stunting. Keywords: Knowledge of Mothers, PMBA Education, Quality Family Village, Stunting, Tumiang Village

Abstract

Background : Stunting remains a significant public health problem in Indonesia, particularly in Kubu Raya Regency, which had the highest stunting prevalence in West Kalimantan at 40.35% in 2021. This study aimed to analyze the influence of complete basic immunization history and household nutritional consumption on stunting incidence among children under five. Method : The research employed a case-control design with a sample of 120 children under five, consisting of 60 stunted children (cases) and 60 normal children (controls) in Mega Timur and Sungai Malaya Villages, Sungai Ambawang District. Data collection used random sampling technique and data analysis used chi-square test. Results: The results showed significant relationships between complete basic immunization history (p=0.015; OR=2.704) and household nutritional consumption (p=0.040; OR=2.333) with stunting incidence. Children with incomplete immunization history had 2.7 times greater risk of experiencing stunting, while children from food-insecure households had 2.3 times greater risk of stunting. Conclusion: Basic immunization history and household nutritional consumption were identified as contributing factors to stunting incidence among under-five children. The study findings revealed significant associations between complete basic immunization history (p=0.015; OR=2.704) and household nutritional consumption (p=0.040; OR=2.333) with stunting risk in under-five children. Abstract

ABSTRACT Background: Linear growth failure caused by lack of nutritional intake, infection, and inadequate parenting patterns is a stunting event. This condition has an impact on increasing mortality and morbidity rates, and inhibits children's cognitive, psychomotor, and mental development. Responsive feeding is an important step for stunted toddlers to increase food acceptance and support optimal cognitive, psychomotor, and mental growth and development. This study is needed to identify behavioral features related to stunting and the factors that influence it. Methods: This study is a quantitative descriptive study, with a Quasi-Experiment One Group without Control design, and data collection techniques are carried out through direct observation. The sample was selected by purposive sampling from a population of 379 and a sample of 30 according to the criteria of families at risk of stunting and children under five years of age. Results: The results of the study obtained a p-value = 0.000. This shows that the intervention carried out has a significant effect on increasing active feeding behavior in mothers of toddlers from the early stage to the active stage. This difference can be interpreted as the success of the intervention in improving mothers' skills or consistency in active feeding, which can have a positive impact on their children's eating behavior. Conclusion: Education about nutritious menus has a significant effect on active feeding behavior in mothers of toddlers. Increasing mothers' knowledge about the importance of balanced nutritional intake has a positive impact on their ability to choose and prepare nutritious food for children.
