Abstract

Research on Growth Rate of propaguls of Rhizophora apiculata was carried out in Tanjung Rejo Village, Deli Serdang Regency, North Sumatra. The purpose of this study was to compare the growth of Rhizophora apiculata in two sylvofishery ponds. The parameters measured were height, diameter and number of leaves. During twelve weeks of observation, the height of the seedlings of Rhizophora apiculata was the best at ponds A, namely in the fifth week 1.8 cm with the best diameter increase of 0.2 cm, the highest number of leaves was 7 strands. At the ponds B, the highest increase in seedlings of Rhizophora apiculata was observed in the fifth week 1.8 cm, but did not experience any increase at all in the second week, with increasing diameters of about 0.05 - 0.1 cm, number of leaves range from 0 to 5 strands. This shows that the growth of Rhizophora apiculata is better at ponds A than at ponds B.

Abstract

Increased soybean production  is  competing with the extension of the  use of agricultural land for  non- agricultural needs. Therefore the future expansion of agricultural land can only use marginal lands such as peatlands, wetlands and tidal lands. This paper discusses the growth and production of soybean varieties Anjasmoro in saline environments. Varieties Anjasmoro have total leaf area and the percentage ratio of the canopy  which  is  not  significantly  different  from  the  other  varieties  tested  except  Kipas  Merah.  In  the production of components, seed weight Anjasmoro 100 seeds varieties including higher and statistically the same as the varieties Kipas Putih dan Kipas Merah

Abstract

An experiment to study the effect of host species and source of nutrient on spore production of an ArbusculeMycorrhizal Fungus, Gigaspora margarita, has been carried out. Combination treatments studied consisted ofhost species (Zea mays and Pueraria javanica) and nutrient factor (no fertilizer, fertilizer and Red Hyponex).Growth medium used was a mix of soil and sand in 1: 1 ratio (v/v) which was sterilized. Results of the experimentshowed that spore production of G. margarita was affected by host species and also by nutrient applied, thoughthere was no interaction between the two factors. However, P. javanica produced more spore than Z. mays.Treatment with Red Hyponex result much higher spores than others, but however without fertilizer produced morespores than Urea, TSP and KCl fertilizers.

Abstract

The Marginal Land in Indonesia still in very large amount. Meanwhile, the accelerate to rehabilitate the land still very slow. The low of pH, C-Organik, N-Total, P and K-exchangeable become the parameter of marginal land condition. Therefore carried out research which combine acid humic and NPK fertilizer which applied to marginal land and seen its influence to growth of seed of suren. Research has been  done in green house at Faculty Of Agriculture of USU on March-May 2012 using completely randomized factorial design of two factors that is concentration of  humic acid ( 0%, 2.5% and 5%) and dose prular NPK fertilizer ( 0 gr; 1 gr; 2 gr; 3 gr and 4 gr per crop). The parameters observed were height of the plant, diameter of stem, dry wight, wide total of leaf and ratio of root crown. The results of research indicate that the concentration of humic acid do not have an effect on the reality to all of the parameters except to parameter of ratio of root crown. But dosage of  NPK fertilizer have significantly effect to all of the parameters. The combination of the concentration of humic acid and NPK fertilizer do not have an effect on the reality to all parameter. All of the dose of NPK fertilizer  besides control have a different significantly to the growth of the plant. Thereby, using of NPK fertilizer is good to growth of plant on marginal land media. Keyword : marginal land, humic acid, NPK fertilizer, seed of suren.

Abstract

Mangrove forest is a tropical beach vegetation community dominated by several tree species that can grow and develop in tidal and muddy beaches. Some mangrove areas recently have been damaged due to illegal activities carried out by various parties, one of which is the East Coast of Sumatra in the Sub District Percut Sei Tuan, Deli Serdang District, Province of North Sumatra. The purpose of the activities is to focus on replanting mangrove lands that have been damaged by local species. The growned in Tanjung Rejo Village Percut Sei Tuan buds are like Rhizopora stylosa, Rhizopora apiculata and Avicennia marina type. Percentage of growing plants were R. stylosa (92.37%), R. apiculata (90%), mixed propagules of R. stylosa and R. apiculata (90%) and A. marina (56%) respectively. Overall the rehabilitation of mangrove forest is categorized as successful, but only one species of the smallest growing with percentage is A. marina (56%) this is because the location of planting is adjacent to the sea where the plants can not stand the tidal currents.

Abstract

Mangroves hold several benefits, one of which is barriers from marine abrasion, food sources, aquatic habitats, carbon sinks and storages, places for education and training, ecotourism sites, and sources of ruminant feed. This study aimed to determine the potential of mangroves as sources of ruminant feed and its carrying capacity for sustainable mangrove utilization. The research was conducted in Belawan Sicanang Subdistrict by using purposive sampling for vegetation analysis and questionnaire method. Avicennia marina, Bruguiera sexangula, B. gymnorrhiza, Nypa fruticans, Rhizophora apiculata, Sonneratia alba, and Thespesia populnea were among the mangrove species used by the farmer. The total capacity of mangrove species as ruminant feed in the animal unit (AU) was obtained as dry matter (835.48 AU), crude protein (481.24 AU), and total digestible nutrient (873.77 AU). The carrying capacity of mangroves as represented in the form of dry matter (13.74), crude protein (7.91), and total digestible nutrient (14.36), were categorized as safe. In addition, the potential additional populations based on the safe level of carrying capacity (2.5) was 273 AU, based on crude protein for 131 AU, and based on total digestible nutrients for 288 AU.

Abstract

Rule of Arbuscule Mycorrhiza Fungi on Growth of Leucaena leucocephala Under Salt StressABSTRACT. Symbiosis Arbuscule Mycorrhiza Fungi (AMF) and plant were not only improving growth and nutrition absorption, but also crop tolerance salinity. Increasing of tolerance to salinity following colonization of AMF promising due to phosphate absorption more efficient. Phosphate absorption of mycorrhizal plant mount equal to 115% compared to non-mycorrhizal plant. This issue will improve growth of crop and decrease influence of toxic ions. Mycorrhizae also can lessen forming of proline equal to 64.47% one of the way of osmotic adjustment of non mycorrhizal plant to increase tolerance. Despitefully accumulate sodium in mucorrhizal plant lower than non mycorrhizal, were degradation of sodium accumulation equal to 61.58%.

Abstract

Effectiveness of Arbuscular Mycorhiza and Shanding in Growth of Teak SeedlingABSTRACT. Interaction between mycorrhizal inoculan dosage with level of shade was significantly affected of seedling growth of height, total dry weight matter, soot root ratio, P content, and degree of infected root by mycorrhizal. The usage of mycorrizal inoculants dosage at 10 g per seedling which combined with level of shade 75% gave the best for seedling growth of teak for siz moth old. Increasing level of shade 25% to 75% increased seedling growth of teak. Furthermore, seedling of teak that treated mycorrzal inoculants dosage at 100 g per seedling was more significantly affected of seedling growth than 5 g per seedling.
