Abstract

The aimed of the study was to determine the prevalence, intensity and dominance of ectoparasites that infected gourami (Osphronemus goramy) which cultivated in floating net cages in Cirata reservoir, West Java. Present results showed that there were 22 gouramis infected with ectoparasites from 30 observed fish. The ectoparasites (Prevalence, Intensity and Dominance) found were Trichodina sp. (13.33%, 8.15 32.62%), Ichthyobodo sp. (3.33%, 1.00, 0.31%) Microsporadia (6.67%, 1.00, 0.31%), Carchesium granulatum (6.67%, 34.00, 20.92%), Cichligogyrus sp. (3.33%, 7.00, 2.15%), Dacthylogyrus sp. (20.00%, 2.00, 3.69%), Centrocestus sp. (6.67%, 3.00, 1.85%), Argulus sp. (56.67%, 6.94, 36.31%), Lerneae sp. (3.33%, 3.00, 0,92%), Gnatia sp. (3.33%, 1.00, 0.31%) and Hatschekia sp (3.33%, 1.00, 0.31%). The Argulus sp. had the highest prevalence with a percentage of 73.33% and becames the most dominant species with a percentage value of 36,31%. Meanwhile, Carchesium granulatum was an ectoparasite species that demonstrated the highest intensity of 34. Based on the diversity of ectoparasites, it was found as positive case that gourami cultivated in the Cirata reservoir have been infected with ectoparasites, especially from the species Argulus sp.

Abstract

The aim of this study is to assess the design of physiognomy of riparian trees and the composition and vegetation structure of riparian trees formation in some forest types in Kahala river of Kutai Kartanegara district, East Kalimantan. The method used in this study was the vegetation ecology which the quadrant technique was applied to collect main primary data of the riparian trees. Points of data retrieval were carried out by as much as 3-point observations at the upper, middle and lower of Kahala river basin. The location of each point was marked by GPS with the length of each transect was 1 km away. The parameters of plant composition and structure ware analyzed by measuring density (K-i), frequency (F) and (dominance). The result showed that physiognomy of riparian trees in 3 main locations was mature secondary forest (in the upstream), perupuk forest (the midstream) and early immature secondary forest (the downstream). There were 22 species belonging to 16 families of riparian trees were recorded in Kahala river. The plant species that have high the importance value (I.V) were recoded namely Antidesma ghaemsembilla which 122.8 % (in the downstream) and Lophopetalum javanicum which 58.5 % (in the upstream).Keywords: Kahala River, Riparian Trees and Quadrant Method.

Abstract

medicine in the Dayak Kenyah Uma Baha tribe. The method that used in this research is an exploratory survey with the PRA (Participatory Rural Appraisal). The result shows that there are 70 medicine plants species which grouped into 39 families and obtained from 45 respondents. The part of the plant that usually used by the Dayak Kenyah Uma Baha tribe is root, tuber/rhizome, stem, tree bark, sap, leaves, flowers, fruit, and seed. The most commonly used are leaves (54%) and the least used part is a flower (1%). The process traditional medicinal plants carried out by the Dayak Kenyah Uma Baha tribe is to be boiled, pounded, grated, squeezed, brewed, burned and directly used. The most commonly used method is boiled (35%) and the least used method is burning (1%). The utilization of habitus based medicinal plants used by the Dayak Kenyah Uma Baha tribe is herbaceous habitus (39%) and the least used is epiphytic habitus (1%). Abstract

Aedes aegypti Mosquito acts as a vector in infecting Dengue Haemorragic Fever (DHF). DHF is one of the healthproblems in Indonesia with high morbidity and large spreading that government has not found its solution. Oneof the strategies in controlling the vector is by using chemical larvacide such as Temefos. However, there isbiopesticide that developed recently by using Bacillus thuringiensis var. israelensis (Bti) bacterium. Balikpapancity is one of the endemic city of DBD with the high rank of cases in 2016 on 2.508 cases. Therefore, this researchis conducted to find out the mortality Aedes aegypti mosquito larvae from five areas (Batakan, Sepinggan, Damai,Muara Rapak, and Batu Ampar) in Balikpapan to Temefos and Bacillus thuringiensis var. israelensis. The methodof this research is Completely Randomizd Design. Steps of this research are observation, collecting sample,documentation, monitoring, and data tabulation. This result of this research is the mortality of Aedes aegypti infive areas in Balikpapan to Temefos during 24 hours by using recommended concentration from the government1 ppm in four areas (Batakan, Damai, Muara Rapak, Batu Ampar) is above 90% and from Sepinggan is under90%. Meanwhihle, the mortality of Aedes aegypti toward Bacillus thuringiensis var. israelensis during 24 hoursby using recommended concentration from the government 20 ppm in three areas (Muara Rapak, Damai, BatuAmpar) is above 90% and two areas (Batakan dan Sepinggan) is under 90%. The result showed that Temephos isnot recommended to control population of mosquitos of Aedes aegypti in Balikpapan City but Bacillus thuringiensivar. israelensis (Bti) is still effective be used to control it.Keywords: Mortality, Aedes aegypti, DHF, Balikpapan

Abstract

Diversity and ecological distributions of amphibians in Berambai Waterfall area, East Kalimantan have never been known. The purposes of this study were to determine the diversity of amphibian species in relation to environmental conditions and the vertical-horizontal distribution. A total of 109 amphibians were captured using methods of the transect and the visual encounter survey for 20 days on two type observation habitats. The results of this study found 18 species from six amphibian families. Based on the number of species, the diversity amphibian index and dominance index have a stable of communities, with the high value of  Shannon-wiener  diversity index (H'),  the evenness  index (E), and the low value of dominance index (D) were 2.26, 0.78, and 0.16, respectively. Horizontal distribution of amphibians in their habitat showed that aquatic amphibian groups were found to be less than 5 m from the river bank, while terrestrial and semi-aquatic amphibians have a distribution of 5–15 m from the river bank. Vertical distribution of Polypedates leucomystax, Polypedates otilophus and Odorrana hosii in vegetation were found from 1.5–2.5 m above ground level, while Ansonia spinulifer, Chalcorana chalconota, Chalcorana raniceps were at a height of 0.5–<1.5 m from ground level. Diversity of amphibian in Berambai Waterfall area related to habitat conditions, while horizontal and vertical distributions are influenced by species, habits and food resources.

Abstract

Biology of bonylip barb (Osteochilus vittatus Valenciennes, 1842) in Benanga Reservoir, East Kalimantan is not yet known. The purpose of this study was to analyze distribution of the length and body weight of fishes, sex ratio, gonad maturity level, length-body weight relationship, and condition factor. In total 278 fishes samples were collected during the five months, from January to May 2019 with a purposive sampling method at Benanga Reservoir, and gill net with  mesh size 0.5; 1; and 1.5  inches used. The results of this research showed that the total length of the fishes analyzed ranged from 72.21–196.57 mm and body weight ranged from 5.12–89.21 g. The sex ratio of male and female were 1:2.02. The male and female fishes were dominated by mature gonad. The length-body weight relationship models calculated for the total fishes sample was W=1x10-5L2.967 (r=0.988) for males, W=5x10-6L3.199 (r=0.989) for females and W=7x10-6L3.126 (r=0.987) for both sexes. Isometric growth patterns (b=3) were observed in males, meanwhile positive allometric growth patterns (b>3) were observed in females and both sexes. Calculation of the condition factor (K) resulted in 1.181±0.117 for males, 0.949±0.094 for females, and 1.026±0.150 for all specimens. The condition factors of bonylip barb from the Benanga Reservoir inside the range recommended as suitable for freshwater fish species in the tropical regions.

Abstract

Biology of the spotted barb Barbodes binotatus (Valenciennes, 1842) in Barambai River, east Kalimantan is unknown. This study aimed to analyses sizes of fish, sex ratio, length-weight relationship and condition factor of the spotted barb. A total of 347 fish samples were collected by several gears in Barambai River from August to October 2017. The results of this research showed that the total length of the fish ranged from 45.67 to 146.01 mm and weight ranged from 1.27-43.34 g. The sex ratio of male and female were 1:1.12. The length-weight equations for males was W = 1x10-5 L3.063, W = 8x10-6L3.108 for females, and W = 9 x 10-6 L3.091 for both sexes. The condition factor (K) for the spotted barb was ranged between 0.826 – 2.214 with mean value of 1.163. Penelitian ini bertujuan menganalisis ukuran ikan, nisbah kelamin, hubungan panjang bobot, dan faktor kon-disi. Total 347 sampel ikan dikumpulkan dengan menggunakan berbagai alat tangkap di Sungai Barambai dari bulan Agustus sampai Oktober 2017. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa panjang total ikan berkisar dari 45,67 sampai 146,01 mm dan bobot tubuh berkisar 1,27- 43,34 gram. Nisbah kelamin jantan dan betina 1: 1,12. Model hubungan panjang bobot ikan jantan W = 1x10-5 L3,063, ikan betina W = 8x10-6L3,108,dan keseluruhan jenis ikan W = 9 x 10-6 L3,091. Faktor kondisi (K) ikanwader bintik dua berkisar antara 0,826 - 2,214 dan rata-rata 1,163.

Abstract

Diversity, potentiality and conservation status of fish fauna in upper Mahakam’s tributaries of east Kalimantan is unknown. The purposes of this study were to analysis species diversity, determine potentiality and conservation status of fish fauna in upper Mahakam’s tributaries, east Kalimantan. Fish sampling with purposive method was conducted in four tributaries, i.e Tepai River, Pahangai River, Danum Parai River, and Meraseh River for one month. Fishes were collected by several gears type. The results of this research showed that the total number of fish caught was 820 individuals; consist of 26 species, 7 families, and 4 orders. The Cyprinidae was the most dominant family found in all tributaries. The Shannon-Wiener diversity index in four tributaries were varied and ranging from 1.749-2.087. The highest fish diversity was recorded at Maraseh River followed by Pahangai River, Danum Parai River, and Tepai River. The low fish diversity was discovered at Tepai River may be due to differences in substrate type, water velocity, and water depth as compared to the Maraseh River, Pahangai River, Danum Parai River. The fish species similarity coefficient between four tributaries ranged from 0.606-0.842 and the highest dissimilarity was found between Tepai River and Danum Parai River. Almost all fishes categorized as edible fish for local consumption. Syncrossus hymenophysa and Gastromyzon lepidogaster have potential as ornamental fish. Regarding IUCN red list status, six fish species were grouped into least concern status, two species as data deficient, one species as near threatened, one species as endangered species and 16 other species were not on the list. Abstrak Keanekaragaman, potensi, dan status konservasi fauna ikan di anak Sungai Mahakam Hulu, Kalimantan Timur belum diketahui. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah mengungkap tingkat keanekaragaman spesies dan mengidentifikasi potensi serta status konservasi fauna ikan di anak Sungai Mahakam hulu, Kalimantan Timur. Pengambilan contoh ikan dila-kukan di empat anak sungai, meliputi Sungai Tepai, Sungai Pahangai, Sungai Danum Parai, dan Sungai Meraseh sela-ma satu bulan dengan menggunakan berbagai alat tangkap. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan total ikan yang tertangkap sebanyak 820 individu, terdiri atas 26 spesies, 7 famili, dan 4 ordo. Famili Cyprinidae adalah paling dominan ditemu-kan di semua anak sungai. Indeks keanekaragaman Shannon-Wiener pada empat anak sungai bervariasi dan berkisar antara 1,749-2,087. Keanekaragaman ikan tertinggi tercatat di Sungai Maraseh diikuti oleh Sungai Pahangai, Sungai Danum Parai, dan Sungai Tepai. Keanekaragaman ikan terendah di Sungai Tepai diduga disebabkan oleh perbedaan tipe substrat, kecepatan air, dan kedalaman air dibandingkan dengan Sungai Maraseh, Sungai Pahangai, Sungai Da-num Parai. Koefisien kesamaan spesies ikan antar empat anak sungai berkisar 0,606–0,842 dan terendah ditemukan antara Sungai Tepai dan Sungai Danum Parai. Sebagian besar spesies ikan dimanfaatkan oleh masyarakat lokal se-bagai ikan konsumsi. Spesies Syncrossus hymenophysa dan Gastromyzon lepidogaster berpotensi sebagai ikan hias. Berdasarkan status daftar merah IUCN ditemukan enam spesies berisiko rendah, dua spesies kurang data, satu spesies hampir terancam, satu spesies terancam dan sebanyak 16 spesies tidak ditemukan dalam daftar.

Abstract

Bonylip barb (Osteochilus vittatus Valenciennes, 1842) that belongs to the Cyprinidae family is one of the native freshwater fishes in Indonesian waters. Currently, status of this species in Benanga Reservoir, East Kalimantan is in over-exploited. Fish resources management, therefore, is needed to maintained fish stock in the reservoir based on fish reproductive biology aspects. The purpose of this study was to analyze some aspects of the reproductive biology including sex-ratio, gonad maturity, length at first gonad maturity, spawning season, fecundity, and spawning patterns as basic information for its management. Fish collection was carried out monthly on the third week from January to May 2019 at three stations. The fish samples were captured by using experimental gill nets with mesh size of 1; 1.5; 2; and 3 inches. A total of 278 bonylip barb was caught, consist of 92 males and 186 females. Sex ratio of male and female in the gonad mature stage was 1: 2.4. The average length at first gonad maturity in male and female were 136.08 mm and 137.38 mm, respectively. Peak of spawning occurs during the rainy season in May, with more than 90% of fish in mature stage with GSI in male and female were 6.88%, 13.16% respectively. Total fecundity ranged from 7312-22923 eggs individual-1 and egg diameter ranged from 0.6-1.94 mm. According to distribution of egg diameter, bonylip barb was categoried as a total spawner. Some management strategies that can be carried out are using fishing gears with mesh size above 2 inches, limiting fishing activities in the peak of the spawning season, prohibiting fishing gear using electric shocker and protection the reservoir from erosion. Abstrak Ikan nilem (Osteochilus vittatus Valenciennes, 1842) merupakan jenis ikan air tawar famili Cyprinidae asli perairan Indonesia. Saat ini, ikan nilem di perairan Waduk Benanga Kalimantan timur telah diekploitasi lebih. Karena itu diperlukan pengelolaan di alam agar stok ikan tersebut tetap terjaga; dengan melakukan kajian aspek biologi repro-duksi. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah menganalisis aspek biologi reproduksi mencakup nisbah kelamin, kematangan gonad berkaitan dengan musim, ukuran ikan kali pertama matang gonad, musim pemijahan, fekunditas dan tipe pemijahan sebagai informasi dasar dalam pengelolaannya. Penangkapan ikan dilakukan selama 5 bulan, dari Januari hingga Mei 2019 dan dilaksanakan pada minggu ketiga setiap bulannya di tiga stasiun. Contoh ikan ditangkap dengan menggunakan jaring insang eksperimental berukuran mata jaring 1; 1,5; 2; dan 3 inci. Jumlah total ikan nilem yang tertangkap 278 ekor terdiri atas 92 jantan dan 186 betina. Nisbah kelamin ikan jantan dan betina pada tahap matang gonad 1: 2,4. Panjang kali pertama matang gonad pada jantan rata-rata 136,08 mm dan betina rata-rata 137,38 mm. Puncak pemijahan terjadi saat musim penghujan di bulan Mei dengan nilai persentase TKG IV >90%, IKG jantan 6,88% dan IKG betina 13,16%. Fekunditas total berkisar 7312-22.923 butir individu-1 dan diameter telur berkisar 0,6-1,94 mm. Sebaran diameter telur menunjukkan pola pemijahan serempak. Strategi pengelolaan yang disarankan adalah penggunaan ukuran mata jaring di atas 2 inci, pembatasan penangkapan ikan pada puncak pemijahan pada bulan Mei, pelarangan alat tangkap menggunakan listrik dan perlindungan Waduk Benanga dari erosi

Abstract

The growth pattern and condition factors of three spots gourami Trichopodus trichopterus (Pallas, 1770) from Lempake Dam, East Kalimantan, are not yet informed. These studies aimed to investigate fishes' length and body weight, sex ratio, length-bodyweight relationships, growth patterns, and condition factors. The collection of fish sampling was carried out monthly from February to May 2020. A total of 912 individual samples of sepat rawa fish were caught by 15 fish traps using a purposive sampling method at three stations. This research showed that the total length of the fishes analyzed ranged from 31.68 to 103.53 mm, while body weight ranged from 1.12 to 7.22 g. The sex ratio in males and females was 1:1.19. The regression model of the length-body weight relationships calculated was W=3x10-5L2.861 for total samples, W=5x10-5L2.710 for males, and W=2x10-5L2.977 for females. The length-body weight was obtained strong relationships in all samples and sexes, with the regression coefficient (r) ranging from 0.965 to 0.977. An isometric growth pattern and the growth coefficient “b”=2.977 was observed in females, while a negative allometric growth pattern in males and both sexes, with the growth coefficient “b”= 2.710 and “b”=2.861. The values of relative condition factor (Kn) observed for females were ranged from 1.472 to 1.555 and for males ranged from 1.024 to 1.082. The growth pattern and relative condition factor of three spot gourami in the Lempake Dam were affected by the number of fishes in gonad mature condition and body shape. Abstrak Pola pertumbuhan dan faktor kondisi ikan sepat rawa Trichopodus trichopterus (Pallas, 1770) dari Bendungan Lempake, Kalimantan Timur belum pernah diinformasikan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis panjang dan bobot tubuh ikan, nisbah kelamin, hubungan panjang-bobot tubuh, pola pertumbuhan dan faktor kondisi. Sampel ikan sepat rawa dikoleksi setiap bulannya dimulai dari bulan Februari hingga Mei 2020. Total 912 individu sampel ikan sepat rawa ditangkap dengan 15 perangkap ikan menggunakan metode purposive sampling pada tiga stasiun. Hasil dari penelitian ini menunjukkan panjang total ikan yang dianalisis berkisar antara 31,68-103,53 mm dan bobot tubuh berkisar antara 1,12-17,22 g. Nisbah kelamin jantan dan betina adalah 1:1,19. Model regresi hubungan panjang-bobot tubuh yang dihitung adalah W=3x10-5L2,861 untuk keseluruhan sampel, W=5x10-5L2,710 untuk jantan dan W=2x10-5L2,977 untuk betina. Hubungan panjang-bobot tubuh didapatkan sangat kuat pada keseluruhan sampel ikan dan jenis kelamin, dengan nilai regresi (r) berkisar dari 0,965-0,977. Pola pertumbuhan isometrik dengan koefisien pertumbuhan “b”=2,977 diamati pada betina, sedangkan pola pertumbuhan allometrik negatif pada jantan dan gabungan kedua jenis kelamin, dengan koefisien pertumbuhan “b”= 2,710 dan“b”=2,861. Nilai faktor kondisi relatif (Kn) yang diamati pada betina berkisar antara 1,472-1,555 dan jantan berkisar antara 1,024-1,082. Pola pertumbuhan dan faktor kondisi relatif ikan sepat rawa dari perairan Bendungan Lempake dipengaruhi oleh jumlah ikan kondisi matang gonad dan bentuk tubuh.
