Abstract

The research was conducted in April-June 2017, located in the coastal waters of Muara Badak, Muara Badak District, Kutai Kartanegara Regency. This study aims to determine the strucure and community of fish in the coastal waters of Muara Badak and to know the types of fish that have economic value in the coastal waters of Muara Badak. Sampling was carried out using the Stratified Sampling method at 3 stations, which used step-by-step fishing gear. Identification of the types of fish obtained is done at the Laboratory of Animal Ecology and Systematics. Biology Department, FMIPA, Mulawarman University, Samarinda. The results showed that there were total fish catches obtained from the three carry net in the coastal waters of Muara Badak consisting of 28 species 19 families, 5 orders of a total of 407,566 individuals. The type of fish found based on the depth level of the coastline of Muara Badak at a depth of 7 meters found a fish community of 16 species from 4 Orders between l Clupeiformes, Perciformes, Syngnathiformes and Tetraodontiformes, at a depth of 8-10 meters to get as many as 23 species of fish The Order, while at a depth of <10 meters, 19 species of 3 Community Orders were most consumed by the people around the Muara Badak, namely Spratelloides gracilis as many as 340,166 individuals. Of the 2 fish species identified 20 species of economically valuable fish, namely: Alectis indicus, Alepes kleinii, Caesio caerulaurea, Caranx sexfasciatus, Chirocentrus dorab, Lutjanus erythropterus, Lutjanus lutjanus, Megalaspis cordyla, Rastrelliger kanagurta, Sardinella gibbosa, Scomberoides tol, Secutor insiator, Selaroides leptolepis, Siganus canaliculatus, Sphyraena obtusata, Spratelloides gracilis, terapon jarbua, Trichiurus lepturus, Ulua mentalis, Upeneus vittatus.

Abstract

Stingless bees (Trigona spp.) are pollinators that play a role in pollination (pollination). Bees look for food on flowers because they accidentally bring pollen to their bodies and carry it as food ingredients. This research was conducted from January to March 2018, with the aim to find out the pollen morphology and the species of plant as feed sources of Stingless Bees (Trigona spp.). The method used in this study is the Acetolysis method. The most common form of pollen unit found in this research was monad unit form, there is only one unit of polyad and tetrad. While the most pollen form is the prolate spheroidal, the most common size of pollen is the medium size category. Aperture found consisted of inerturate, corporate, monocolpate, monosulcate, triporate, tricolpate, tricolor, trichotomosulcate, trichotomocolporate, trizono company, tetraporate and parasyncolpate. Sculpture consists of psilate, reticulate, perforate, echinate, scabrate, microreticulate and regulate. Observations from pollen morphological samples found 21 plant families with 28 different species which became the plant source of bee nectar.

Abstract

The aim of this research is to gain further understanding of how particular insect species respons to different host plants. This research isconsidered as preliminary research in integrated pest management for Spodoptera exigua. We report herein the consumption and utilizationof green onion (Allium fistulosum), caisin (Brassica rapa subsp. Parachinensis) and celery (Apium graveolens) by Spodoptera exigua. Theevaluation of indices of food consumption, growth and food utilization showed that caisin (Brassica rapa subsp. Parachinensis) was the bestfood for the last instar larvae of S. exigua as compared with celery or green onion. Growth rates and efficiency of conversion of ingestedfood to biomass (ECI) were significantly higher for larvae fed caisin (11.93%) than for those given green onion (8.06%) or celery (7.74%)Although the protein content of caisin (2.23%) was a bit lower than that of green onion (2.45%) but higher than celery (1.28%), we suspectthat the larvae performed best in caisin due to good balance between protein and carbohydrate as well as water content in caisin as comparedwith other host plants.

Abstract

Diversity and ecological distributions of amphibians in Berambai Waterfall area, East Kalimantan have never been known. The purposes of this study were to determine the diversity of amphibian species in relation to environmental conditions and the vertical-horizontal distribution. A total of 109 amphibians were captured using methods of the transect and the visual encounter survey for 20 days on two type observation habitats. The results of this study found 18 species from six amphibian families. Based on the number of species, the diversity amphibian index and dominance index have a stable of communities, with the high value of  Shannon-wiener  diversity index (H'),  the evenness  index (E), and the low value of dominance index (D) were 2.26, 0.78, and 0.16, respectively. Horizontal distribution of amphibians in their habitat showed that aquatic amphibian groups were found to be less than 5 m from the river bank, while terrestrial and semi-aquatic amphibians have a distribution of 5?15 m from the river bank. Vertical distribution of Polypedates leucomystax, Polypedates otilophus and Odorrana hosii in vegetation were found from 1.5?2.5 m above ground level, while Ansonia spinulifer, Chalcorana chalconota, Chalcorana raniceps were at a height of 0.5?<1.5 m from ground level. Diversity of amphibian in Berambai Waterfall area related to habitat conditions, while horizontal and vertical distributions are influenced by species, habits and food resources.

Abstract

Abstract. Caterpillar grayak (Spodoptera litura) is one of the pests in various types of vegetable plants are polyphagous and have a wide range of hosts. One common way of controlling farmers to overcome Spodoptera litura attack is to use insecticide. The use of insecticides that are not rational will accelerate the occurrence of pest resistance against insecticides. An alternative is needed to develop biological products which are generally narrow-spectrum chemicals to target organisms. Flowers at four (Mirabilis jalapa) contain bioactive compounds that are toxic. M. Jalapa contains some secondary metabolite compounds such as saponins, flavonoids, tannins, and polyphenols. Based on the description above it is necessary to conduct a research to determine the percentage mortality of caterpillar grayak on giving the leaf extract at four o'clock flowers. The method used is leaf dipping methods and analysis with POLO-PC software. The results showed that 1.6% concentration of extract of M. jalapa can kill the number of larvae as much as 30 tails with a percentage of 75% within 48 hours. The LC50 value of mortality of M. jalapa extract on Spodoptera litura larvae was 0,507% (0,378-0,661 with p <0,05) with slope1,516 ± 0,318.Keywords: Bioinsecticides, Mirabilis jalapa, Spodoptera litura, Mortality

Abstract

AbstractThis study aimed to determine the composition and structure of Semayang forest and the Importance Value Index (IVI) of riparian forest in its role of reducing the wave rate. The method used is multilevel plot method of 20x20 m for sampling of tree level, 5x5 m for sapling level and 2x2 m for seedling level. The result showed that the highest Importance Value Index at tree level was dominated by 3 species, they were L. javanicum (101,663), M. speciosa (76,201) and G. renghas (65,962). At sapling level dominated by P. indica (102,990). At seedling level dominated by M. pigra (95,004)andP. brevistipitata (70,109). In addition, Semayang riparian forest has an ecological function as a wave retaining. It can be seen based on the vegetation density and horizontal structure of species that make up the forest. Vegetation density is predicted to reduce the rate of Semayang lake waves that occur during flood season. Keywords: Composition and Structure, Riparian Forest, Semayang Lake.
