Abstract

The aim of this research is to identify changes in net geometry and analyze the correlation between the physical properties of the net and the geometry of the net that has been used for 1 to 3 years. The research used an experimental method by directly measuring the geometry of the net, namely mesh size, net diameter and knot height. The research also analyzed data on breaking strength and net elongation which were correlated with net geometry. The condition of the net when tested was dry. There were 4 treatments used in the research, namely control nets, nets that had been used by fishermen for 1, 2 and 3 years. The results of the research stated that the highest average gillnet mesh size value was for the 2 year net treatment and the lowest was 3 years. The highest average value of net diameter was the 1 year net and the lowest was the 2 year net. Meanwhile, the highest average gillnet node height is 1 year and the lowest is 3 years. The correlation value of net geometry with breaking strength has varying values. Breaking strength is closely related to the height of the knots in the mesh with a positive value of 0.77, whereas for mesh elongation all the mesh geometry indicators have negative values, so each increase in the mesh geometry value will decrease the elongation value.

Abstract

Purse seine yang digunakan di Kota Batam berjenis waring, dikenal dengan istilah purse seine waring. Pendapatan setiap awak kapal memiliki bagian yang berbeda dipengaruhi oleh jumlah hasil tangkapan dan level jabatan di kapal. Perhitungan pola pengupahan di Kota Batam ditentukan oleh perusahaan. Tujuan penelitian ini untuk menghitung hasil pendapatan selama 3 trip, menentukan pola pengupahan, dan menganalisis komposisi upah awak kapal dan awak kapal purse seine berdasarkan jumlah hasil tangkapan per trip. Penelitian dilakukan mulai bulan Februari-Mei 2022. Metode yang dilakukan adalah observasi dan wawancara melalui 3 trip. Analisis data yang digunakan analisis deskriptif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa selama 3 trip awak kapal mendapatkan hasil tangkapan 74 ton sejumlah Rp 138.674.300. Pendapatan awak kapal disesuaikan dengan jabatan organisasi di kapal. Nahkoda mendapatkan 3 bagian, kepala kamar mesin (KKM) 2,5 bagian; kerani, mualim, juru sampan, dan wakil KKM I masing-masing 2 bagian; juru haluan, wakil juru sampan, juru batu, wakil KKM II, dan koki masing-masing 1,5 bagian, dan ABK kapal 1 bagian. Sumber pendapatan awak kapal terbagi atas 6 jenis, yaitu upah pokok 1, 2, 3, tunjangan tetap, tunjangan tidak tetap 1 dan 2. Setiap awak kapal mendapatkan setiap jenis pendapatan berdasarkan jabatan di kapal.

Abstract

Even though the government has established regulations regarding wages, the reality is that the wages received by crew members of fishing vessels are still not in accordance with regulations. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to identify the distribution of wages on purse seine vessels and to find out the gap between the wages received by crew. To achieve this goal, this study uses catch data for three fishing trips from March to May 2022, as well as crew wages from selling catches on the purse seine vessel PT Hasil Laut Sejati. The secondary data used is the productivity of the annual catch of purse seine vessels as well as supporting data from references related to the topics discussed. The data obtained were then analyzed using descriptive analysis, income analysis, and gap analysis. The average wage received by purse seine vessels crew is around Rp. 677,649.67 Rp. 1,190,134.00, the wages received are far below the City Minimum Wage, with a gap of 71.57% - 83.81%. The wages of Batam City purse seine crew are not in accordance with the City Minimum Wage of Batam City. Economic conditions and wages for crew members significantly require crew to continue working, to make ends meet.Keywords:CatchCrewIncome

Abstract

Pangkalan Pendaratan Ikan (PPII) Dumai merupakan sentral kegiatan perikanan tangkap, tetapi belum memiliki fasilitas yang memadai secara fungsi nya. Selama 13 tahun beroperasi di Kelurahan Pangkalan Sesai, PPII Dumai belum mengalami pengembangan fasilitas yang signifikan. Hal ini disebebkan oleh beberapa faktor. Oleh karena itu, tujuan penelitian ini adalah mengidentifikasi kondisi fasilitas-fasilitas PPI Dumai dan menentukan strategi pengembangan PPI Dumai. Penelitian dilaksanakan menggunakan metode survei dan wawancara menggunakan kuisioner terbuka kepada 5 nelayan dan 3 petugas Pelabuhan Perikanan. Data diolah secara deskriptif dengan analisis tingkat pemanfaatan fasilitas pelabuhan perikanan dan SWOT. Berdasarkan hasil identifikasi, PPI Dumai termasuk tipe pelabuhan perikanan D, yaitu PPII (Pangkalan Pendaratan Ikan) Dumai. Fasilitas di PPI Dumai terdiri atas fasilitas pokok (5 macam fasilitas), fungsional (9 macam fasilitas) dan penunjang (7 macam fasilitas). Tingkat pemanfaatan fasilitas-fasilitas PPI Dumai 78%, maka tingkat pemanfaatan fasilitas belum mencapai kondisi optimal. Pengembangan pelabuhan perikanan Dumai dapat dilakukan dengan menggunakan strategi S-O (strength-oPPIortunity), yaitu strategi menerapkan kekuatan dengan memanfaatkan peluang kebijakan yang bersifat agresif.Fishing Port (PPI) of Dumai is one of the infrastructure used by Dumai fishermen to carry out capture fisheries activities. The facilities owned by fishing ports are determining in optimizing capture fisheries activities. Therefore, the aim of this research is to identify the condition of PPI Dumai's facilities and determine PPI Dumai's development strategy. The research was carried out using survey and interview methods with 5 fishermen and 3 fishing port officers. The data is processed descriptively by analyzing the level of utilization of fishing port facilities and SWOT. Based on the identification results, PPI Dumai is included in type D fishing port, namely PPII (Fish Landing Base) Dumai. Facilities at PPI Dumai consist of basic facilities (5 types of facilities), functional (9 types of facilities) and suPPIorting (7 types of facilities). The level of utilization of PPI Dumai facilities is <100%, so the level of facility utilization has not reached optimal conditions. The development of the Dumai fishing port can be carried out using the S-O (strength-oPPIortunity) strategy, namely the strategy of aPPIlying strength by taking advantage of aggressive policy oPPIortunities.

Abstract

Umpan tiruan merupakan salah satu hasil perikanan tangkap yang diperdagangkan. Faktanya, 75% masyarakat Indonesia mempunyai hobi memancing dan membutuhkan umpan untuk memancing. Pemancing di Dumai biasanya membuat sendiri umpan buatan dan membutuhkan waktu dalam pembuatannya. Ketersediaan umpan buatan di Dumai belum efektif di perjualbelikan. Jadi, peluang usaha pembuatan umpan buatan sangat besar. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk menganalisis kelayakan umpan buatan menggunakan teknologi Durable Artificial Bait (DAB). Metode pengumpulan data yang digunakan adalah wawancara kepada pelaku usaha dan survei pasar di Dumai selama 4 bulan. Analisis data yang digunakan adalah keuntungan produksi, R/C Ratio dan BEP. Hasil penelitian menyatakan bahwa usaha pembuatan umpan ikan dengan DAB dinilai layak. Hasil analisis total biaya sebesar Rp. 456.722,-. Pendapatan tahunan adalah Rp. 13.440.000.- dan keuntungan yang diperoleh sebesar Rp. 7.959.333. Nilai R/C Ratio yang diperoleh sebesar 2,45 sehingga layak untuk dilakukan dan dikembangkan. Nilai BEP harga produk ini adalah Rp. 14.273/kemasan. Kesimpulannya, bisnis umpan buatan dengan penambahan teknologi terbarukan yaitu Teknologi Bau Tahan Lama (DAB) dinyatakan layak secara finansial dan dapat membangun startup di bidang perikanan tangkap.Artificial bait is one of the commercial products derived from capture fisheries. In fact, 75% of the Indonesian population enjoys fishing as a hobby and requires bait for this activity. Anglers in Dumai usually make their own artificial bait and it takes time to make it. The availability of artificial bait in Dumai is not yet effective in trading. Therefore, the business opportunity for manufacturing artificial bait is highly promising. The objective of this study is to analyze the feasibility of artificial bait production utilizing Durable Artificial Bait (DAB) technology. The data collection methods used were interviews with business practitioners and market surveys conducted in Dumai over a period of four months. The data analysis included production profit, R/C Ratio, and Break-Even Point (BEP). The results indicate that the artificial bait manufacturing business incorporating Durable Odor Technology (DAB) is feasible. The total production cost was recorded at IDR 456,722. The annual revenue reached IDR 13,440,000, with a net profit of IDR 7,959,333. The R/C Ratio was calculated at 2.45, indicating that the business is viable and has potential for further development. The BEP for the product was determined at IDR 14,273 per package. In conclusion, the artificial bait business utilizing the latest innovation—Durable Odor Technology (DAB)—is financially feasible and has the potential to support the development of a startup in the capture fisheries sector.

Graphical Abstract   Highlight Research Synthetic nets, widely used in aquaculture and marine fishing, experience reduced performance over time due to environmental exposure. The study analyzes the effectiveness of Toli shad gillnets based on their technical age using statistical and experimental methods. A strong negative correlation exists between technical age and both breaking strength (r = -0.972) and elongation (r = -0.92). Toli shad gillnets perform optimally within 2 to 3 years of use, with effectiveness declining by the fourth year as indicated by scores of 40–59, suggesting adequate performance but the need for targeted improvements. Medium-term maintenance should be performed annually throughout the net’s service life, up to a maximum of 7 years, while replacement is recommended starting in the 4 year to mitigate performance degradation.     Abstract Synthetic nets have high elasticity and are widely used for both aquaculture and marine fishing. However, as their technical age increases, their performance declines due to wear, reduced breaking strength, and decreased elongation caused by continuous exposure to the marine environment. Monitoring the technical age of nets is crucial to maintaining the effectiveness of Toli shad gillnets, minimizing losses, and ensuring optimal catch yields. This study aims to examine the physical degradation of synthetic gillnets used in Toli shad (Tenualosa macrura) fisheries based on their technical age. This study utilized gillnets targeting toli shad (Tenualosa macrura), with varying technical ages (control net, 1-year, 2-year, and 3-year nets), all made from polyamide (PA) monofilament. The differences in net dimensions were attributed to variations in their service life. The method used is purposive sampling, analyzed using descriptive statistics, correlation analysis, a Completely Randomized Design (CRD), and effectiveness evaluation. The results show that the structure of Toli shad gillnets consists of mesh sizes of 77.82–99.60 mm, thread diameters of 0.34–0.53 mm, and knot heights of 1.52–2.28 mm. The relationship between technical age and breaking strength has a correlation coefficient (r) of -0.972, an R² of 0.94, and a regression equation of y = 9.85 - 1.31x. The LSD test indicates a significant difference in breaking strength across treatments. The correlation between technical age and elongation has an r-value of -0.92, an R² of 0.86, with the equation y = 20.11 - 0.34x. The LSD test shows that the control net has significantly different elongation compared to others, but nets aged 1, 2, and 3 years show no significant differences. The study concludes that Toli shad gillnets remain effective for up to 3–4 years, with an effectiveness value of ≥50%. The implications of this study contribute to the efficient management of fishing nets by informing maintenance and replacement strategies based on the technical age and mechanical degradation of the gear. These findings suggest the importance of integrating net lifespan into gear management to enhance catch performance and sustainability in small-scale fisheries.

Abstract

Tujuan penelitian ini untuk mengevaluasi teknik pengoperasian purse seine pada KM. Sumber Rezeki berdasarkan Permen KP No 18 Tahun 2021. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan menggunakan KM. Sumber Rezeki milik PT. HLS tahun 2022. Data dikumpulkan dengan metode observasi dan wawancara. Hasil nya adalah purse seine yang digunakan KM. Sumber Rezeki adalah jenis purse seine pelagis kecil dengan nama daerah pukat langgar. Konstruksinya terdiri atas tali ris atas 450 m, tali ris bawah 450 m, tali pelampung 450 m, tali pemberat 450 m, srampat 450 m, tali cincin 450 m, pelampung 1500 buah, pemberat 700 buah, cincin 105 buah. Alat bantu pengoperasian purse seine adalah rumpon menetap dan lampu. Kapal yang digunakan adalah kapal motor dengan ukuran 168 GT. Penangkapan ikan dilakukan pada jalur III dan WPP 711. Berdasarkan evaluasi teknik pengoperasian purse seine, tujuh aspek telah dinyatakan sesuai yaitu mesh size dan panjang tali ris sesuai, ukuran kapal dan jalur penangkapan telah sesuai. Satu aspek yang belum sesuai yaitu pengoperasian pukat langar tidak dilengkapi dengan radar reflektor sebagai alat bantu penangkapan. Kata kunci: evaluasi, pengoperasian, purse seine, teknis

Abstract

The marine fisheries sector is a dominant part of the agricultural industry in Tegal City, involving various stakeholders in the production and distribution processes. One of the main challenges in marketing the catch is the price disparity between fishermen and consumers. Therefore, this study aims to identify the distribution patterns of mackerel scad (Decapterus russelli), analyze marketing margins, and evaluate the efficiency of marketing channels at Tegalsari Fishing Port. This research employs a case study method with a descriptive approach to illustrate distribution patterns, as well as calculations of marketing margins and efficiency. The findings reveal the existence of six main marketing channels involving fishermen, collecting traders, wholesalers, retailers, and consumers. The marketing margin ranges from IDR 2,100 to IDR 4,800, with marketing efficiency values between 5% and 11%. Only the first marketing channel is considered efficient, with a value of 5%, while the others have yet to reach optimal efficiency. These results indicate that the marketing efficiency of mackerel scad at Tegalsari Fishing Port still needs improvement to reduce price disparities and enhance the welfare of fishermen and fisheries business actors. Abstract

Kota Tanjung Balai merupakan salah satu kota potensial perikanan laut yang ada di Kabupaten Asahan, Provinsi Sumatera Utara. Berbagai perusahaan perikanan terdapat di kota Tanjung Balai, salah satunya adalah PT. Selamat Abadi. KM. Malindo Indah merupakan armada penangkapan yang dimiliki PT. Selamat Abadi. KM. Malindo Indah mengoperasikan alat tangkap purse seine di perairan 711, dengan potensi utamanya adalah ikan pelagis kecil. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah menginterpretasikan komposisi hasil tangkapan KM. Malindo Indah dan mengidentifikasi hasil tangkapan utama dan hasil tangkpan sampingan KM. Malindo Indah. Penelitian dilaksanakan dengan kapal purse seine KM. Malindo Indah yang dilaksanakan mulai tanggal 1 Januari sampai dengan 30 April 2023. Metode pengumpulan data yang digunakan adalah observasi dan wawancara. Analisis data yang digunakan menggunakan analisis deskriptif. Purse seine merupakan alat tangkap yang bersifat multi species. Hasil tangkapan KM Malindo Indah didominasi oleh ikan pelagis kecil, dengan total hasil tangkapan trip pertama sebanyak 73.425 kg dan trip kedua sebanyak 44.421 kg. Persentase hasil tangkapan KM. Malindo Indah sebanyak 62% trip pertama, sedangkan trip kedua sebanyak 38%. Hasil tangkapan KM. Malindo Indah 99% adalah hasil tangkapan utama, sedangkan 1% nya adalah hasil tangkapan sampingan. Hasil tangkapan utama KM. Malindo Indah yaitu Layang (93%), Kembung (3%), Selar (2%), Tongkol (1%) dan Mata Besar (1%), sedangkan hasil tangkapan sampingan KM. Malindo Indah adalah Caru dan Bawal.
