Abstract

Abstract

Pole and line is a fishing gear consisting of a fishing rod or bamboo which has a main rope, secondary rope and hook and is operated by hand with the target of skipjack tuna. Sometimes there are still fishermen who do not carry out fishing activities based on applicable regulations. The  study was carried out in Bitung with the aim of knowing pole and line fishing techniques, identifying the technical linkages of pole and line fishing in KM. Sari Usaha 09 with Permen KP 36 of 2023 and uses observation, documentation, and interview methods then is analyzed by descriptive and comparative. The technical connection between pole and line operations has discrepancies in Permen KP 36 of 2023 with  result research data with the criteria for vessel size, fishing line, FADs. Criteria for hook and rod length were taken from 3 journals/references on the operation of pole and line fishing gear in the North Sulawesi region. There is a discrepancy in the criteria for pole and line fishing gear because Permen KP 36 of 2023 does not discuss fishing hooks and rod length, so journals/references regarding the operation of pole and line fishing gear in the North Sulawesi region are cited. Regarding the results of the KPA regarding technical comparisons of pole and line operations with Permen KP 36, it is known that four criteria are suitable and one is not suitable, namely boat size, fishing line, FADs, and rod length while the criteria are not suitable, namely, hook size.

Abstract

Maintaining the potential sustainability of fish resources in the sea, the government began “Code of Conduct for Responsible Fisheries (CCRF)” concept since it was adopted at the FAO Conference on October 31, 1995 to overcome irregularities in capture fisheries activities. The criteria for environmentally friendly fishing gear must have high selectivity, the gear does not damage the habitat, does not endanger the lives of fishermen, produces quality fish, the product does not endanger consumers, low by-catch, fishing gear provides minimal impact efforts on the diversity of biological resources, does not catch protected biota species that are threatened with extinction and is socially accepted by the community. The purpose of this study is to determine the environmental level friendliness of purse seines by means of observation, documentation, and interviews. The purse seine catches results in the study at KM. Berkah Sandrego 2 consists of Sardinella gibbosa by 25%, Amblygaster sirm by 27%, Selarodies leptolepis by 19%, Selar crumenophthalmus by 8%, Atule mate by 4%, Rastrelliger kanugarta by 6%, Euthynnus affinis by 9%, and other catches by 2%. The 88.32% catch total is the main catch (HTU), while 11.68% is bycatch (HTS) with total catch of fish that can be utilized at 100% and unutilized total catch at 0%. The assessment shows that this fishing gear is in the environmentally friendly category. The evaluation resulted in a score of 28 and a total score of 848, which proves that the purse seine is in the 28-36 category (very environmentally friendly).

Abstract

Even though the government has established regulations regarding wages, the reality is that the wages received by crew members of fishing vessels are still not in accordance with regulations. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to identify the distribution of wages on purse seine vessels and to find out the gap between the wages received by crew. To achieve this goal, this study uses catch data for three fishing trips from March to May 2022, as well as crew wages from selling catches on the purse seine vessel PT Hasil Laut Sejati. The secondary data used is the productivity of the annual catch of purse seine vessels as well as supporting data from references related to the topics discussed. The data obtained were then analyzed using descriptive analysis, income analysis, and gap analysis. The average wage received by purse seine vessels crew is around Rp. 677,649.67 Rp. 1,190,134.00, the wages received are far below the City Minimum Wage, with a gap of 71.57% - 83.81%. The wages of Batam City purse seine crew are not in accordance with the City Minimum Wage of Batam City. Economic conditions and wages for crew members significantly require crew to continue working, to make ends meet. Keywords:CatchCrewIncome

Abstract

One of the problems faced in the development of the marine and fisheries sector nationally is the low quality of the fish capture due to the limited capacity and quantity of available port infrastructure resulting in the decrease in competitiveness. The data in this study were related to fish capture from fishing boats to wholesalers. The data obtained was observation of the location of the vessel, the fish auction place, and the marketer. The types of fish taken were Kurisi (Nemipterus pneumatophores), Biji Nangka (Upeneus mullocensin), Kapas-Kapas (Gerres erythronium), Bawal Putih (Pampus argenteus), Kembung (Rastrelliger spp). Fish examining was done by looking at the organoleptic and pH values. The pH value was obtained by testing the pH meter, while the organoleptic value was obtained by observing the physical condition using a score sheet. To determine the magnitude of the influence of facilities on fish quality, and the correlation between organoleptic values and pH, an analysis using simple linear regression was conducted. The average organoleptic value of fish while on the boat, when distributed, and when in the marketplace were 8,248; 7,024; and 6.6 respectively. Meanwhile, the average pH value was 7.05; 5.51; and 5.15. The quality of fish caught at Class A Fishing Port of Belawan is still of good quality. The pH test showed decline in pH value ever since the fish was brought to the port until they were marketed. The influence of facilities on the fish organoleptic and pH value are 98.3% and 96%. Thus, facilities significantly affect fish quality at Belawan Fishing Port. Between pH and organoleptic values showed a positive correlation, hence when the pH value decreased, the organoleptic value also dropped. Keywords:Belawan Fishing PortEast WatersFacilities InfluenceFish Quality

Abstract

Fishery management is an activity that must be carried out to achieve sustainable fisheries. Fisheries management using the Ecosystem Approach to Fisheries Management (EAFM) approach is the sustainable use of fishery resources and protection of fish stocks in nature. One of the objectives of fisheries management in social and economic aspects is how fisheries can ensure the socio-economic welfare of the fishing community. Using fishing gear that is not environmentally friendly is one of the triggers for social conflict between fishermen and the uncertain selling price when the peak season of fish impacted the fishermen's economy. Therefore, the purpose of this research is to examine the socio-economic domain indicators from the aspect of EAFM-based coastal and marine resource ecosystem management. This research was conducted from January to February 2021, located in Simeulue District, Sub-District East Simeulue. The data collection method used in the study was interviews and field surveys. The determination of respondents is done by using a gradual sampling technique or stratified random sampling. Data analysis uses an ordinal-based Likert score of 1,2,3 for each indicator, namely the economic domain, fishery household income (RTP), savings ratio, asset ownership, and the social domain, namely stakeholder participation fisheries conflict and the use of local knowledge in fish resource management. Management status in East Simeulue District assessed the aggregate value of the economic domain in the medium category with a score of 48.3. Fishermen still earn less than the minimum wage, while in the social domain, it is in the excellent category with a score of 100 because fishermen, institutions, and related agencies work with each other. Keywords:EAFMEcosystem approachFishery management
