Abstract

Rural community development is intrinsically linked to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) for villages. This study aims to analyze the implementation of the Village SDGs in Plumbon Village (PV). Employing a qualitative research approach, data were collected through Focus Group Discussions (FGDs) and in-depth interviews. The findings reveal that the implementation of the Village SDGs in PV has achieved notable success across several key components, including the establishment of a safe and comfortable village, a peaceful and just community, the eradication of hunger, strong women's participation, sustainable consumption, and production practices, reduced inequalities, enhanced health and well-being, access to quality education, environmental conservation efforts, and the development of dynamic institutional structures. However, the study also identifies several challenges, such as improving infrastructure, empowering the community, managing agricultural and environmental resources, enhancing education and healthcare services, optimizing public service delivery, fostering effective communication and community engagement, and addressing shared aspirations and expectations within the community.

Abstract

At the beginning of 2020, the global COVID-19 pandemic crisis occurred which had an impact on the batik industry in Laweyan Village, namely a decline in sales of up to 60% and the threat of bankruptcy. The formulation of the research problem is what is the work ethic of women Laweyan batik craftsmen during the COVID-19 pandemic. This research uses a qualitative method with a case study approach. There are two sampling techniques used in this research, namely snowball sampling which is used to look for informants for women craftsmen through key informants from the management of the Laweyan Batik Village Development Forum (FPKBL), and purposive sampling is used to find out whether the informant knows the data being sought. The research results found that women Batik Laweyan craftsmen had a work ethic during the COVID-19 pandemic. Data was obtained through 10 dimensions of work ethic theory, which shows that female Laweyan batik craftsmen still had a work ethic when the COVID-19 pandemic occurred. This research concludes that Laweyan Batik craftsmen still have a work ethic even though they are experiencing the COVID-19 pandemic crisis.

Abstract

Background: Kyai and Santri have a long history in the political dynamics of the Indonesian nation. In addition, the number of Islamic boarding schools and students has experienced significant development, so it is not surprising that Islamic boarding schools are land to gain votes in the general election of legislative candidates. Aim: This study aims to describe the behavior of Kyai voters in the 2019 Legislative Election and the behavior of Santri voters in the 2019 Legislative Election. Method: The research uses descriptive qualitative with a case study at the Wisma Wisnu Islamic Boarding School, Madiun Regency. Data analysis was carried out using the approach of sociological theory (The Colombia Study) and rational choice. Findings: The results showed that; 1) The behavior of Kyai voters in the 2019 Legislative Elections showed a rational choice approach. Kyai was able to assess the quality, competence, and integrity of legislative candidates through vision, mission, and programs; 2) The behavior of Santri voters in the 2019 Legislative General Election showed a sociological approach (The Colombia Study); Santri did not know the vision and program of the future legislative because the students were not involved in the campaign stage, so the consideration in determining the choice of students was due to the direction of the Kyai and partly because of the supervision of the parents.

Abstract

This study is a case study on the shift in water management patterns in Banyuurip Village, Sragen, Central Java, from traditional community-based systems to modern schemes such as Community-Based Water Supply and Sanitation (PAM Simas) and Rainwater Harvesting Infrastructure (IPAH). Using a qualitative case study approach, data were collected through in-depth interviews with 15 informants, participatory observation in three representative hamlets, and document analysis from August to October 2024. Findings indicate that while the shift improved water access from 45% to 87% of households (2018-2024), it also fostered dependency on external aid (78% of respondents), weakened collective participation in communal work (declined by 62%), and triggered social tensions over unequal distribution between highland and lowland areas. Analysis based on Bourdieu's (1986) concept of social capital and Ostrom's (1990) principles of commons governance reveals that water modernization without strengthening local institutions risks eroding the social foundation of sustainability. Comparison with similar studies in Nepal (Prasai et al., 2021), Ethiopia (Whaley & Cleaver, 2017), and Indonesia (Kooy & Bakker, 2022) demonstrates a universal pattern: technical water management without substantive participation results in social exclusion and social capital erosion. The study underscores the importance of integrating traditional values and community autonomy in rural water resource governance policies through hybrid institutional designs that combine modern efficiency with local legitimacy
