Abstract

This paper revisits and extend discussions which evaluate the impact of different rules on monetary policy. Rules on one which excludes or includes stability of the exchange rate as an objective of monetary policy making, with currency mismatch existence as given, on the fluctuations of major economic variables. In this paper I develop a financial accelerator model with financial intermediary consistent with currency mismatch, and assume imperfect international substitutability of assets. This paper found that the variation of rule of monetary policy considered in the analysis produces variations in the fluctuations of the macroeconomic variable. However the impact of the different monetary policy rules on the stability of the macroeconomic variables is shock dependent.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to analyze the factors influencing exports of ASEAN countries from 2007-2021. This study used panel vector autoregressive (PVAR), and panel vector error correction (PVECM) analysis methods for data which is not stationary at the level and are cointegrated. The results showed that the exchange rate has a significant influence both in the long and short term on the volume of exports. There is also a negative relationship between the exchange rate and exports, in terms of output. In the long and short run, the US GDP variable has a significant influence on export volumes. The relationship between US GDP and exports is positive. Policy implication is that ASEAN countries should enact policies which support export competitiveness vis-à-vis trade partner countries. In addition, exchange rate policies can be considered to be used occasionally to help enhance exports.

Abstract

This paper aims to investigate whether foreign interest rate determines Islamic stock prices vis-à-vis domestic interest rate. The method applied is the Autoregressive Distributed Lag (ARDL) model to Indonesian data from January 2008 to June 2018. The study found a long-run negative relationship between foreign interest rate with both Islamic and conventional stock prices. Additionally, foreign interest rate is more important than domestic interest rate in determining the price of both types of stocks. Although Islamic stocks are affected by foreign interest rate dynamics, they are less responsive to changes of the Libor than conventional equities. In addition, it is found that GDP, money supply and real exchange rate has a long-run positive relation with both stock price. Thus, although Islamic equity prices are not insulated against foreign interest rates, they are less responsive to international financial markets movements than conventional stocks. For policy, authorities should pay close attention to foreign interest rate dynamics. While policy makers and fund managers in a dual capital market can use Islamic stocks to provide cushion against dynamics of international funds market.

Abstract

This community service initiative by the Faculty of Economics and Business, Syiah Kuala University, aimed to enhance the competitiveness of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) owned by university students. Utilizing the Service Learning method, the program focused on improving operational efficiency through training in time management, inventory control, product quality enhancement, and technology application. The initiative culminated in an international product exhibition at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, providing MSMEs with opportunities for global market exposure. Post-evaluation demonstrated a significant increase in productivity among participants, evidenced by improved time management and product quality. The project's success highlights the positive impact of holistic approaches that integrate training and international marketing efforts on local economies. Future initiatives should explore deeper aspects like innovation and advanced marketing strategies for sustained MSME growth

Abstract

This study aims to determine the moderating role of religious philanthropy in reducing the impacts of disasters to economic problems, namely inequality, poverty, and economic growth of ASEAN-9 over the period from 2000 to 2020. By using a panel moderated regression analysis, the study found that disasters significantly contributed to higher levels of economic growth, income disparity, and poverty. In addition, philanthropy is found to have a negative moderating role in the effects of disasters on economic growth, inequality, and poverty. The findings showed an effective role of philanthropy in reducing the impacts of disasters on economic growth, income disparity, and poverty in ASEAN-9. Our findings provide an important benchmark for the formulation of government policies to mitigate disaster risks on economic problems through the enhancement of religious philanthropic institutions.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effect of the rate of economic growth, average length of schooling, dependency ratio, and life expectancy on the percentage of poor people in Indonesia. This study uses panel data consisting of 34 provinces in Indonesia during the period 2016 to 2020. The analysis model used in this study is a panel data regression model. The results found in this study are variables that have a significant effect on the percentage of poor people in Indonesia are the average length of schooling, dependency ratio, and life expectancy. Meanwhile, the variable rate of economic growth has not had a statistically significant effect on the percentage of poor people in Indonesia. The variables of average length of school and life expectancy have a negative and significant effect on the percentage of poor people so that aspects of the quality of human resources represented by the level of education and health have an important role in poverty alleviation. Meanwhile, the dependency ratio has a positive and significant effect on the percentage of the poor, so various policies are needed to control population growth so that the productive population does not have too high a burden to bear the needs of the non-productive population.

Abstract

The value of potential GDP lost due to stunting varies between countries. Stunting is not only an indicator of well-being but also a prerequisite for increasing productivity. The problem of stunting can lead to a decrease in productivity, which, in turn, can lead to lower economic output. Indonesia is one of the countries that still faces stunting problems. This study aims to analyze the role of protein consumption in mediating the effect of food security on stunting prevention in Indonesia. The data used is panel data covering 34 provinces in Indonesia for the period 2018-2021, resulting in 136 observations. The model used in this study is path analysis. There are two models estimated using panel data regression analysis: the stunting prevention equation model and the protein consumption equation model. Stunting prevention is estimated against the variables of food security and protein consumption. In the second model, the effect of food availability for consumption is estimated on consumption through the food security approach. The results show that increasing food security and protein consumption influences stunting prevention. Increasing food security affects protein consumption. Protein consumption mediates the effect of food security on stunting prevention. Government policies to increase protein consumption can be achieved through formal and informal education. Fiscal policies such as a sugar tax and a tax on unhealthy foods or drinks with low nutritional value can be applied to create a substitution effect that impacts increased protein consumption. Labor-intensive economic policy in the agricultural sector is also needed to promote food security, protein consumption, and stunting prevention simultaneously.

Abstract

QRIS, or Quick Response Code Indonesian Standard, represents one of the key evolutions in the payment system in Indonesia, utilizing QR Code technology to enhance payment system efficiency. QRIS has gained popularity in supporting payment systems in Indonesia and ensuring the velocity of money within the country. The velocity of money plays an important role in enhancing the effectiveness of monetary policy through its influence on the predictability of major monetary aggregates and money demand. This study aims to analyze the impact of QRIS usage on the velocity of money in Indonesia. The study employs a quantitative approach, using quarterly time series data (2019 Q1 - 2023 Q4) and incorporating several additional variables that can influence the velocity of money. The findings indicate that QRIS affects the velocity of money in the long term, as demonstrated through the Error Correction Model, a method capable of analyzing both short-term and long-term economic phenomena and evaluating the consistency of empirical models with economic theory. Based on these empirical results, it is recommended that the government of Indonesia enhance QRIS infrastructure to foster greater confidence and trust among citizens, thereby accelerating transactions.

Abstract

This community service activity aimed to improve the management control systems of print entrepreneurs around Universitas Syiah Kuala (USK). The main issue was the lack of understanding and implementation of effective control systems, leading to operational inefficiencies. Using a Service Learning approach, 10 entrepreneurs participated in training led by experts from Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) and USK. The training covered management control concepts and introduced basic technology tools to support business operations. Results showed a 25% increase in participants' understanding of management control systems and an 85% adoption rate of the techniques and technologies introduced. These improvements contributed to better business efficiency and align with Sustainable Development Goal 8, which emphasizes decent work and economic growth. This activity demonstrated that tailored training programs can significantly enhance small business operations and can be replicated for broader impact.
