Abstract

Workplace bullying has become a psychosocial hazard that will decrease the performance of workers and will ultimately decrease the performance of the company's organization. This study was conducted to look into the correlation between bullying, psychological distress, and satisfaction with life. Respondents involved are offshore workers of an oil and gas company (N = 206) from various entities which are divided into permanent and contract workers, as well as into staff and non-staff positions, who were recruited using the snowball sampling method. Statistical analysis was performed using Pearson correlation test with the SPSS software. Statistical test results showed a significant association between bullying and psychological distress (r permanent=0.658, r contract=0.460, r staff=0.641, and r non-staff=0.453, p =0.001) and satisfaction with life (r permanent=-0.272, r contract=-0.232, r staff=-0.396, and r non-staff=-0.179, p =0.01). From the analysis, it was concluded that permanent workers and staff position have a higher level of psychological distress than contract workers and non-staff, yet they also have a higher level of satisfaction with life. This finding shows the presence of a mediating factor that underlies the fact that although the stress level is higher, the level of satisfaction with life remains higher among these workers. Thus, in-depth research on this phenomenon would be needed.

Abstract

Construction workers are among workers who have to face a very dynamic work situation with a fixed deadline because they have to finish the work according to the target of completion as stated in the contract. The study aimed to compare Satisfaction with Life, Psychological Distress, and Workplace Bullying of the workers in two construction companies. This is a cross-sectional study using a questionnaire distributed to two groups of workers who work in two different companies with a total number of respondents of 588. Data collected were then processed using a frequency distribution table and compared using the Mann Whitney method to identify differences between the two groups. The study showed differences between the workers from the two companies in terms of negative behaviors, level of distress, and level of satisfaction with life. Workers in the Civil Engineering Contractor Company suffer more bullying and a slightly higher level of distress. The lowest level of satisfaction with life is also seen in this company when compared to that of the engineering procurement construction (EPC) contractor company. The result of study indicate that difference might link to more bullying actions and a higher level of distress in the construction civil engineering company, which trigger dissatisfaction with life among its workers. Thus, management should act promptly to eliminate negative behaviors as it will be crucial in preventing the increase in the number of bullying victims and the level of distress in the workplace will not increase.

Abstract

Maternal Mortality Rate (MMR) is one of the national health indicators to achieve the success of maternal health efforts where the number of MMR in Indonesia reached 305 per 100,000 live births. Family planning services including Post Partum Family Planning/Keluarga Berencana Pascapersalinan (KBPP) can effectively reduce maternal mortality by reducing births and reducing high risk. The high number of KBPP users in DKI Jakarta can be caused by many things such as local government support, level of service by health workers, and others. Therefore, this study aims to analyze and find out the special causes that cause the number of KBPP participants in DKI Jakarta and as a lesson learned for other local governments. This research is a descriptive study to see the variety of data on the number of KBPP participants in DKI Jakarta. Univariate analysis was used to describe the number of KBPP participants and bivariate analysis to explain the characteristics of the variables studied based on time, namely in the form of a run chart. Based on four tests that have been carried out on the data on the number of KBPP participants in DKI Jakarta, it can be said that there is one test that meets the requirements as a variation of system data so that there is a special cause that causes the number of KBPP participants in 2019-2020. The existence of policy support from the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government, and various stakeholders has resulted in high coverage of the use of postpartum family planning.

Abstract

The World Health Organization (WHO) has declared the COVID-19 outbreak a public health emergency of international concern (PHEIC) and officially designated as a pandemic outbreak and health workers are the frontline workers in diagnosing and providing care to patients infected with COVID-19. Stress is a form of psychosocial risk, namely a physical and mental response due to an imbalance between demands and abilities. The purpose of this study is to look at Psychosocial Factors in Health Workers in the period before and during the COVID-19 Pandemic. This study used the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews & Meta-Analysis (PRISMA) method systematically. The inclusion criteria in the study included using original studies related to topics published during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020-2021 while before the COVID-19 pandemic published in 2017-2019, and open access to studies. Factors changes that occur in health workers on psychosocial factors involved before and during the pandemic, including age, gender, job demands, marital status, organizational roles, interpersonal relationships and leadership, and fear of COVID-19 infection. The COVID-19 pandemic has brought changes to the work system of health workers, of course, this affects the psychosocial aspects of health workers. In addition, the COVID-19 pandemic has also brought changes to the psychosocial factors that exist in health workers when compared to before the pandemic. Abstract

The relationship between fatigue and psychosocial aspects in the upstream oil and gas industry is still relatively not widely studied. Since end of 2019, there have been several policies related to the COVID-19 pandemic, which impact to the psychological aspects of the workers in response to those unexpected changing situations. The aim of this study was to determine the relationship between psychosocial aspects and the multidimensional work-related fatigue both onshore and offshore upstream oil and gas during the 2020-2021 Covid-19 pandemic. This study is a quantitative analytic study with a cross sectional study design. This study was conducted at one of the upstream oil and gas in East Kalimantan, Indonesia. Psychosocial aspects were measured by using the 3rd Version of Copenhagen Psychosocial Questionnaire (COPSOQ III) questionnaire, whilst work-related fatigue was measured by using the Multidimensional Fatigue Inventory-20 (MFI-20). Multivariable Linear Regression analysis was used to examine the associations and interactions. The result of study revealed all satisfaction subscales of psychosocial aspects were perceived as good (high level) by workers. Meanwhile dissatisfaction subscales were at medium level during the COVID-19 pandemic. The work-related fatigue tended to be at low level. After the confounding variables were controlled, the Recognition, Job Satisfaction and Work Life Conflict aspects were found to have association with total fatigue in Onshore, whereas the job satisfaction is the only psychosocial aspect that is related to the total fatigue in offshore area. Company is encouraged to concentrate the future fatigue prevention programs particularly on reducing the Work Life Conflicts and developing proactive measures which may improve the meaning of satisfaction at work.   Keywords         : COPSOQ, MFI-20, Fatigue, Psychosocial, COVID-19, Upstream Oil and Gas

Abstract

The World Health Organization (WHO) on March 9, 2020, has determined the status of the COVID-19 corona virus outbreak as a global pandemic. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the construction sector operates 100% without restrictions. This causes workers in the construction sector not only to have a profound effect on physical health but also mental health. According to WHO, fear and anxiety about COVID-19 disease and other factors can affect work stress (WHO, 2020). This research method uses the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews & Meta-Analysis (PRISMA) method which discusses construction and psychosocial factors in the construction sector. The factors found to be the most dominant in the literature review were stress and fatigue, family-work conflict, interpersonal relationships, work demands, work organization (job control), and working hours. Stress and fatigue can be both factors and effects that affect the state and performance of workers. These factors arise because the construction business process is so dense and has targets that must be pursued every time and demands from high management during the COVID-19 pandemic. During the Pandemic, the timeline changes and the pressure on their workers is to the point where they must pawn the safety of the workers to meet the predetermined time limit as if this was done under normal circumstances.   Keyword          : Risk Factors, Construction Sector, Psychosocial Factors, COVID-19 Pandemic

Abstract

Introduction: Bullying does not only occur in the school environment. It can also happen at the workplace. There have been several definitions on bullying in the psychological literature but, in general, bullying is described as aggressive behavior by a person or group of people who feel more powerful, with the aim of hurting, humiliating, or isolating victims who feel helpless (Salmivalli, March–April 2010) (Gredler, 2003) Bullying can affect employee's satisfaction with life, which negatively relates to job satisfaction and mental health status of workers (Gabriele , et al., 2015). Work-related losses due to work accidents caused by fatigue triggered by workplace bullying will also increase if the psychosocial hazards caused by bullying are not managed properly and correctly (Young-Ran & Jeong-Won , 2016) (Rohit, et al., 2009) (Ma, et al., 2010). Research related to workplace bullying is still difficult to find in Indonesia, even the existing reports on this topic are barely enough to explain how this phenomenon is handled this country. Bullying has been widely researched, but the majority of the studies are performed in school settings or adolescent settings. There has not been any in-depth research on bullying that has been conducted comprehensively in work settings (Silviandari & Helmi, 2018). This study aims to determine and examine the incidence of workplace bullying in the energy sector or the power generation industry by involving seven power plants throughout Indonesia. Method: This was a cross-sectional study involving 219 workers in the power plant industry who were above 17 years of age and with a work experience of at least 6 months. These workers participated in this study by filling out the Negative Acts Questionnaire-Revised (NAQ-R). Results: The results of the analysis showed that there was no comparison of bullying incidents among the seven power plants (F = 0.71, p = 0.135) and that the bullying level in these 7 power plants was low (mean= 26.7), with the highest mean was found in Southeast Sulawesi (mean=27.9). Conclusion: This shows that the incidence of bullying in the seven power plants is in the low category, with the highest tendency of bullying seen in the power plant in Southeast Sulawesi.

Abstract

AbstractWorkers who are working in the health care sector have to deal with a work condition that is high-risk for bullying from various parties that come from, among others, the expectation of excellent performance. This study aimed to assess the association between Workplace Bullying, Psychological Distress, and Satisfaction with Life among workers in health care sector.  This is a cross-sectional study on 310 respondents consisting of workers who work on various health care services. Data were collected using a randomly distributed questionnaire and processed using a frequency distribution table. The association between variables were then analyzed using the Spearman correlation test. The results of this study showed associations between Workplace Bullying, Psychological Distress, and Satisfaction with Life. The majority of workers in the health care sector did not experience bullying and stress. For the satisfaction with life in this sector, the study showed a high satisfaction level. This study concludes that there is an association between bullying and stress level among workers in health care sector. A higher bullying and stress level will trigger dissatisfaction with life. Despite the low bullying incidence in this sector, management still has to be aware and perform prompt actions to identify and prevent negative actions. This is important to prevent bullying by implementing an appropriate anti-bullying program in the workplace, that the stress level will not increase and the satisfaction of the workers is maintained. Keywords: bullying, health care sector, level of distress, and satisfaction with life AbstrakPekerja sektor Pelayanan Kesehatan  merupakan pekerja yang harus menghadapi situasi kerja yang sangat berisiko terjadinya kejadian bullying dari berbagai pihak dan menuntut perfoma yang tinggi.
