Abstract

It is a well-known fact that the COVID-19 pandemic exacerbated the work stressors of nurses, which were already a problem previously, causing great distress. Hence, the need for effective coping strategies has been realized to prevent such distress, especially if a pandemic recurs. Determining how the types of coping strategies used by nurses impact their distress level in COVID-19 Pandemic. This review was conducted using the PRISMA Statement Recommendations Checklist and PRISMA—Extension for Scoping Reviews (PRISMA-SCR). The databases used were Willey Library, Science Direct, SCOPUS, and Springer Link for the literature search. Nurse and (“coping type” or “brief cope”) and COVID were the keywords used for search. The search was carried out using the following initial filters: “English and Indonesian,” language, and “free full text” availability. Only original research articles with a sample of nurses and a focus on coping with the COVID-19 pandemic were synthesized. The review contained 21 articles in total. In the Brief-COPE framework, an instrument designed to measure the types of coping strategies, there are several ways of classifying the types of coping strategies: based on outcome, engagement, stressor management goals, and source of support. The top coping strategies were acceptance, active coping, planning, religion, positive reframing, and seeking emotional support. Avoidance coping strategies significantly increase one’s depression and anxiety, while acceptance and positive reframing protect against anxiety and depression. This knowledge forms the basis of planning and designing a stress management program for dealing with extreme work stressors, such as pandemics. Future research should investigate how different types of stressors influence the use of coping strategies and distress in other situations. Keywords: coping type, COVID-19, distress, nurse   Abstrak Strategi Mengatasi Distress Perawat dalam Menghadapi Pandemi COVID-19: A Scoping Review. Abstract

Background: Non-communicable diseases (NCDs) remain a major public health challenge and impact the productivity of civil servants, especially those with sedentary work patterns. Physical fitness is an important indicator in supporting employee performance and health. Purpose: To describe the fitness status of civil servants and analyze the relationship between health screening and fitness levels. Method: A cross-sectional design with a quantitative approach. A total of 507 civil servants participated in health screenings that included measurements of Body Mass Index (BMI), blood pressure, random blood sugar, cholesterol, uric acid, and a fitness test using the Rockport method. Univariate and bivariate analyses were performed using the Chi-Square test. Results: The study showed that 55.6% of civil servants were in the fit category. The majority of respondents had an abnormal BMI (81.9%) and high cholesterol levels (55.2%). Statistical tests showed that only age had a significant relationship with fitness (p < 0.05), with civil servants aged ≤45 years and older at risk of lower fitness levels compared to the middle productive age group. Meanwhile, gender, BMI, blood pressure, blood sugar, cholesterol, and uric acid levels did not show a significant relationship with fitness. Conclusion: Age is a dominant factor influencing civil servants fitness, necessitating promotional efforts and regular physical activity to maintain employee health and productivity. This also suggests the need to evaluate the accuracy of the screening tools and the appropriateness of the Rockport test implementation.   Keywords: Civil Servants; Fitness; Health Screening.

Abstract

Fatigue among heavy equipment operators is a major occupational risk that contributes significantly to workplace accidents in the mining industry. High workload demands, extended working hours, and shift systems particularly night shifts substantially increase fatigue risk. This study aimed to examine the relationship between operator fatigue and workplace accidents and to evaluate the effectiveness of fatigue risk management through the High Potential Person (HIPO) program. An observational analytic study with a cross-sectional design was conducted using secondary data collected from the Defender and Jigsaw fatigue monitoring systems between January and August 2025. The study population comprised all 947 active heavy equipment operators at PT Petrosea, Kideco Jaya Agung site, and total sampling was applied. Descriptive and analytical analyses were performed to assess the distribution of fatigue incidents, accident occurrences, and their associations. The findings revealed that fatigue incidents were more prevalent during night shifts, and operators experiencing repeated fatigue events had a significantly higher risk of workplace accidents. The implementation of fatigue risk management strategies including real-time fatigue monitoring, identification of HIPO operators, shift scheduling adjustments, and targeted preventive interventions effectively reduced repeated fatigue incidents. This study highlights the critical role of systematic fatigue risk management in improving occupational safety and enhancing operational productivity in the mining sector.

Abstract

Driver health checks are crucial to ensure the safety and well-being of individuals operating vehicles, especially those in public transportation professions, such as intercity and interprovincial buses (AKAP) and similar modes of transportation, to prevent the risk of road accidents. This study aims to analyze the relationship between driver health risk factors—namely age, blood sugar levels, and amphetamine in urine—and driving fitness during the Eid al-Fitr season at two intercity bus terminals in East Jakarta Administrative City during the 2024 Eid al-Fitr season. Data collection was conducted through surveillance from April 3, 2024, to April 17, 2024, involving 667 drivers, and analyzed using univariate and bivariate methods with JASP software. The results showed that 76.6% of drivers had mild to severe hypertension, 7.8% had blood sugar levels >200 mg/L, 0.4% tested positive for respiratory alcohol, and 0.3% tested positive for amphetamine. As a recommendation, 11.1% of drivers were deemed unfit to drive. Hypertension, blood glucose levels, and driving fitness were statistically associated with driver age (p < 0.001). Age, as a confounding factor, is closely related to the measured parameters and driving fitness, necessitating attention to reduce the risk of road accidents, particularly during the Eid al-Fitr holiday period. These findings highlight the critical need for regular health monitoring of aging commercial drivers and the implementation of age-specific fitness assessment protocols to enhance road safety during high-traffic holiday periods.
