Abstract

ABSTRACT Introduction: Diabetes mellitus can cause microvascular complications, one of the most common being neuropathy, which is triggered by persistent hyperglycemia. Aims: To determine the relationship between random blood glucose levels and the incidence of diabetic neuropathy in Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus patients. Methods: This analytical observational study used a cross-sectional design involving 92 Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus patients. Neuropathy was assessed using the DNS-Ina questionnaire, while random blood glucose levels were obtained through laboratory tests. Data were analyzed using the Chi-square test. Results: Among the respondents, 53.3% did not experience hyperglycemia, while 82.3% had diabetic neuropathy. The Chi-square test revealed a p-value of 0.017 with an odds ratio of 4.568, indicating a significant association between random blood glucose levels and diabetic neuropathy. Conclusion: There is a significant relationship between random blood glucose levels and the incidence of diabetic neuropathy in Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus patients at H. Abdul Manap Regional Hospital, Jambi City. Keywords: diabetic neuropathy, random blood glucose, Type 2 diabetes mellitus

Abstract

Background: Work stress is one of the factors causing complaints of lower back pain. Work stress has a negative impact on a person's physical and psychological health. Dentists who experience ongoing stress will usually experience complaints of low back pain. Pain can increase during prolonged activities. Increased pain can be felt due to psychological conditions and an unsupportive environment. Objective: The aim of this research is to determine the relationship between work stress and complaints of lower back pain among dentists in Jambi City Method: This research is a quantitative study using an analytical observational design with a cross sectional approach. Respondents in this study were 134 dentist taken randomly. Data collection used the Oswestry Dissability Index (ODI) questionnaire to measure complaints of low back pain, the Perceive Stress Questionnaire (PSQ) to measure work stress. Data analysis uses statistical correlation tests. Results: The results of the statistical correlation test show that the work stress variable (p= 0.006) Conclusion: There is a positive correlation between the work stress variable and the lower back pain complaint variable among independent practicing general dentists in Jambi City.

Abstract

Background: Multibacillary (MB) leprosy features high bacillary load and an immunoregulatory milieu. Methods: A comparative cross-sectional study enrolled 70 participants (MB = 35; controls = 35). Categorical variables were compared with Chi-square/Fisher’s exact tests; medians with Mann–Whitney U. Spearman’s rank correlations were computed within groups. Results: Age did not differ (p = 0.458 and p = 1.000), whereas occupation and education did (p = 0.038 and p = 0.029). The Bacterial Index (BI) was markedly higher in MB (median 3 [IQR 4]) than controls (0 [0]; p < 0.001). IL-10 levels were higher in MB (1.97 [4.30] pg/mL) versus controls (1.12 [1.96] pg/mL; p = 0.033). In MB, BI correlated positively with IL-10 (ρ = 0.357; p = 0.035). Conclusions: MB patients exhibit substantially higher bacillary burden and elevated IL-10 relative to controls. The positive BI–IL-10 association in MB supports a tolerogenic immune profile linked to bacterial load, while PGE₂ showed limited discriminatory value in this sample. Larger, adjusted studies are warranted to validate these relationships and explore their clinical utility.
