Abstract

ABSTRACT Asthma is a chronic inflammatory disease of the respiratory tract with increasing prevalence in toddlers. Inadequate asthma control can lead to decreased quality of life, activity limitations, and increased risk of hospitalization. The LENINA (Lung function Evaluation and Nursing Intervention for Non-pharmacological Asthma management) intervention was designed as a comprehensive non-pharmacological approach to improve asthma control abilities. To analyze the effectiveness of LENINA intervention on asthma control abilities in toddlers, including lung function, frequency of asthma attacks, and family asthma management abilities. A quasi-experimental study with pretest-posttest with control group design was conducted on 42 toddlers with asthma in the working area of Nagrak Health Center, Cianjur Regency. The sample was divided into an intervention group (n=21) receiving LENINA intervention and a control group (n=21) receiving standard care. Lung function was measured using Peak Expiratory Flow Rate (PEFR), frequency of asthma attacks using observation sheets, and family asthma management abilities using questionnaires. Data were analyzed using paired t-test and independent t-test. LENINA intervention significantly improved PEFR values (p=0.000), decreased the frequency of asthma attacks (p=0.000), and increased family asthma management abilities (p=0.000) in the intervention group compared to the control group. The difference in PEFR value improvement in the intervention group (13.38) was greater than the control group (2.76). The decrease in asthma attack frequency in the intervention group (2.53 times/month) was more significant than the control group (0.38 times/month). The increase in family asthma management ability scores in the intervention group (20.67) was much greater than the control group (2.14). LENINA intervention proved effective in improving asthma control abilities in toddlers through improved lung function, decreased frequency of asthma attacks, and increased family asthma management abilities. The results recommend implementing LENINA intervention in asthma control programs for toddlers in primary healthcare facilities. Keywords: Toddler Asthma, Non-Pharmacological Intervention, LENINA, Asthma Control, Family Role.   ABSTRAK Asma merupakan penyakit inflamasi kronis pada saluran pernapasan yang prevalensinya terus meningkat pada balita. Abstract

Introduction: Dementia significantly impacts elderly quality of life, necessitating innovative non-pharmacological approaches. This study aimed to identify key design elements for multisensory environments integrated with reminiscence therapy in Indonesian contexts. Methods: This qualitative study used an exploratory descriptive design through focus group discussions with 10 elderly participants, 2 family caregivers, and 5 healthcare professionals. Participants were selected through purposive sampling based on inclusion criteria established for this research protocol. Data were analyzed using Braun and Clarke's six-phase thematic analysis framework to identify key patterns related to the development of multisensory environments. Results: This study revealed five main themes from a comprehensive data analysis of therapeutic environments for the Indonesian population. These themes are: 1) the importance of positive reminiscence triggers to effectively stimulate memory, 2) the personal space requirements for comfort and safety as essential environmental design considerations, 3) the need for multisensory integration as a critical component of therapeutic environmental interventions, 4) the vital role of family support and communication strategies in a comprehensive care approach, and 5) the relevance of cultural and spiritual considerations in design to provide contextual meaning. Conclusion: The development of Harmony multisensory spaces should integrate reminiscence therapy principles with personalized design elements, emphasizing safety parameters, comfort metrics, and cultural sensitivity to effectively improve the quality of life for elderly individuals with dementia. Implementation requires multidisciplinary collaboration between healthcare professionals, designers, and family caregivers to ensure optimal therapeutic outcomes.

Abstract

Introduction: Postpartum depression (PPD) is a major public health issue with lasting effects on maternal well-being and child development. However, limited empirical evidence exists on the psychosocial, demographic, and clinical determinants of PPD among urban populations in Southeast Asia. This study aimed to identify psychosocial, demographic, and clinical predictors of postpartum depression among mothers residing in Semarang, Indonesia. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted among 168 postpartum women aged ≥17 years who had delivered a live infant and provided informed consent. Data were collected using validated tools, including the Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale (EPDS) to assess depressive symptoms. Independent variables included maternal age, education, employment, parity, mode and place of delivery, medical history, obstetric complications, socioeconomic status, anxiety level, and perceived spousal and family support. Chi-square tests and binary logistic regression were used to determine significant predictors. Results: The prevalence of mothers at risk of PPD was 50%. Logistic regression analysis showed that low education (OR = 7.18; 95% CI: 1.05–48.96; P-value = .044), moderate anxiety (OR = 5.52; 95% CI: 1.14–26.74; P-value = .034), limited spousal support (OR = .34; 95% CI: 0.15–0.80; P-value = .013), and lack of family support (OR = 6.15; 95% CI: 1.93–19.62; P-value = .002) were significant predictors of PPD.Conclusion: Psychosocial factors, particularly anxiety and insufficient social support, are key predictors of postpartum depression. Routine psychosocial screening and strengthened family-centered interventions are essential to reduce the risk and long-term impact of PPD.Keywords: depression postpartum; edinburgh postpartum depression scale; risk factors

Abstract

Background: The managerial capacity of community health center leaders in Indonesia remains limited, while the quality of nursing services depends heavily on how well core management functions are carried out. Purpose: This study aimed to determine the influence of community health center management functions, namely planning, mobilization and implementation, and supervision, on the quality of nursing services, and to identify the most dominant function. Methods: A quantitative observational study with a cross-sectional design was conducted at the Malinau Seberang Community Health Center, North Kalimantan, Indonesia, in 2025. A total sampling of 87 health workers completed Likert-scale questionnaires measuring the three management functions and service quality. Results: Chi-square tests showed significant associations between planning (p=0.007), mobilization and implementation (p=0.007), and supervision (p=0.006) and the quality of nursing services. Multiple logistic regression confirmed that all three functions significantly influenced service quality (p<0.001), with planning showing the largest Exp(B) value (0.0135) and identified as the most dominant determinant. These estimates should be interpreted with caution, however, since the outcome was highly skewed toward the good category and the resulting odds ratios were very small. Conclusion: These findings strengthen the evidence that integrated community health center management is key to improving nursing service quality. Health center leaders should prioritize structured, data-driven planning, supported by coordinated implementation and routine supervision, particularly in remote and border areas.
