Abstract

Schizophrenic patients in family members makes the family helpless and unable to care for them. Patient, family, social environment, and health service factors can affect the family's ability to care for schizophrenic patients. The aims of this study are to analyze factor predictors of the family's ability to care for schizophrenic patients. This study used a correlational study design. The sample of this study is 135 schizophrenic families in the outpatient clinic of Dr. Amino Gondohutomo Regional Psychiatric Hospital with purposive sampling. The instruments in this study are the questionnaire which developed and modified from the experience caregiving instrument (ECI), inner resource scale (SAS-I), mental health inventory (MHI), Berkeley Expressivity Questionnaire, Barthel Index, caregiving tasks in caring for an adult with mental illness scale (CTiCAMIS). Data were analyzed using a multiple regression test. The result shows the family's ability to care for schizophrenic patients predicted by the variables of family resources (p-value=0.019) and social support (p-value=0.0.32). Family resources as the strongest predictor of the family's ability to care for schizophrenic patients (B=0.242). It is necessary to develop integrated family empowerment interventions that increase and activate the family's inner resources.

Abstract

Schizophrenia relapse occurs due to the family's inability to care for and modify the environment at home. This occurs due to low knowledge of family care, not being taken to mental health services, refusal of treatment from patients, and high emotional expression in the family environment. This study aimed to analyze the ability of family caregivers to prevent relapse of schizophrenia. Quantitative research design with a cross-sectional approach. The sample was 70 families who are caregivers of schizophrenia at the health center in Semarang City with a purposive sampling technique. Instruments in the form of a questionnaire developed from several concepts and tested validity reliability again.  Data analysis using Spearman rank correlation with 95% significance. The results showed that there was a strong and unidirectional relationship between the family's ability to care for schizophrenia and relapse prevention (p=0.000, r=0.628). The better the family's ability to care, the better the relapse prevention efforts made. Mental nurses can provide repeated education and training to improve family knowledge of caring for schizophrenia at home.

Abstract

Recovery and quality of life for people with schizophrenia (PWS) are persisting challenges in mental health services. Therefore, this research aims to investigate factors contributing significantly to PWS recovery for quality-of-life enhancement. A comprehensive search across six databases, including Scopus, ScienceDirect, ProQuest, SpringerLink, Web of Science, and CINAHL generated 196, 122, 134, 79, 51, and 113 articles, respectively, for screening. These 695 articles focused on patients diagnosed with schizophrenia in recovery, as well as comprised journal publications from 2019 to 2023 and quantitative or qualitative research published in English. A total of 22 articles that met the inclusion criteria were subject to a review process. The results showed that PWS recovery was influenced by coping strategies, illness severity, treatment compliance, hope, spirituality, social support, and partnerships, while self-stigma hindered recovery and quality of life. However, spirituality was found to significantly foster hope, self-confidence, self-control, and meaning for PWS. Health profesional played an important role in the recovery process through the establishment of partnerships, provision of coping skills, and empowerment of patients.

Abstract

This study aimed to assess the impact of an educational intervention centered on fostering a caring-based character on the practical nursing competency related to ethics, law, and cultural sensitivity. The research employed a quasi-experimental approach with a pre-post design, incorporating a control group. Purposive sampling was used to select 33 respondents for both the intervention and control groups (n=66). The competency measurement instrument was validated and deemed reliable. The intervention, carried out over 12 weeks, utilized a module. Data analysis involved the Wilcoxon match pairs test and Mann-Whitney U-test. The intervention group exhibited a significant improvement in practical nursing competency concerning ethics, law, and cultural sensitivity before and after the caring-based character learning intervention (p<0.001), whereas the control group showed no notable difference (p=0.065). Significant competency differences were observed between the intervention and control groups (p=0.023). The implementation of a caring-based character learning module has the potential to enhance nursing students' competency, particularly in practical aspects related to ethics, law, and cultural sensitivity. It is suggested that nursing education incorporates character learning modules into the curriculum, training programs, or extracurricular activities.

Abstract

The excessive use of online games can disturb the psychological, physiological, and behavioral balance of adolescents. This study aimed to identify the factors contributing to online game addiction. On databases like Scopus (20 articles), ProQuest (113 articles), SAGE (214 articles), and Springer (596 articles), published within the last five years, a systematic review was carried out using the population, intervention, comparison, outcome, study design (PICOS) framework. The articles that were chosen employed empirical quantitative, qualitative, or mixed-methods research on young people who were addicted to online games and were published between 2018 and 2023. The review's inclusion criteria were met by 25 papers. Factors can increase the risk of adolescents experiencing online game addiction, including adolescent factors consisting of, adolescent life satisfaction, and duration of smartphone use, parenting and communication, parental support, and parental income, friendship relationships and the school environment. These findings are expected to serve as the foundation for parents and teenagers to identify the cause of problems in order to reduce harmful consequences. Nurses are expected to be able to identify elements that contribute to adolescent online game addiction and devise interventions to assist adolescents in liberating themselves.

Abstract

This study aimed to elucidate the significance of cultural diversity in maternity care in the context of enhancing the quality of care services. To undertake this systematic review, we conducted searches across multiple databases, including CINAHL, SAGE, ScienceDirect, ProQuest, Scopus, and Springer. The process of article selection was executed through Science Direct and Sage, with adherence to specific inclusion criteria, such as articles published within the last five years, written in English, and focusing on maternity care. This study excluded articles with unclear literature reviews and those written in languages other than English. To analyze the risk of bias and the caliber of the included articles, we used the JBI assessment checklist and the PRISMA flow chart. A total of 20 relevant articles were selected for review. In order to enhance the quality of maternity care services, it is imperative to consider a range of facets, including showing respect and tolerance for cultural diversity, fostering effective communication, and honing relevant skills. Maternity care providers must cultivate an attitude of respect and tolerance towards the cultural diversity of their patients and their families.
