Abstract

Background: Families who care for patients with schizophrenia are still considered negative experiences. Families are less able to find new, positive meaning when caring for patients with schizophrenia. This condition increases the family's and patient's burden as well as the inability of families to care for patients with schizophrenia. Purpose: This research aims to identify relationships between exploring the new meaning of caregiving with the family's ability to take care of patients with schizophrenia. Methods: This research is a quantitative descriptive study with a cross-sectional approach. A sample of 135 families who were caregivers of patients with schizophrenia was selected using purposive sampling techniques. The questionnaire exploring the new meaning of caregiving was developed from the concept of integrative empowerment and the family's ability to care for schizophrenia from the Barthel Index questionnaire and the Caregiving Tasks in Caring for an Adult with Mental Illness Scale (CTiCAMIS). Data analysis used Spearman rank correlation with alpha 5%. Results: This study's result is that the family's ability to explore new meanings of care is still in the sufficient category, both in the family aspect of having responsibility, the ability to assess positive aspects, acceptance of caring situations, and the family being part of the healer. Meanwhile, families' ability to care for patients with schizophrenia is still lacking to help with social interaction and productive skills. Conclusion: There is a relatively strong and unidirectional relationship between exploring new meanings of caregiving and the family's ability to care for schizophrenia (p-value=0.000; rho=0.311). Nurses must train family skills to explore new meanings through family empowerment programs.

Abstract

Introduction: Non-Suicidal Self-Injury (NSSI) among adolescents is a prevalent issue in Indonesia. Comprehensive understanding of NSSI is essential for uncovering the factors that trigger and predispose adolescents to such behavior. This knowledge serves as a foundation for crafting targeted nursing interventions to address and mitigate NSSI among this vulnerable population. This study aimed to identify determinant factors contributing to the occurrence of Non-Suicidal Self-Injury behavior in adolescents. Methods: The study employed a cross-sectional approach conducted between October and December 2023, with 570 respondents selected through simple random sampling. Socio-demographic, precipitating, and predisposing factors were measured using a checklist sheet. The Self-Harm Inventory (SHI) instrument was utilized to assess NSSI. Data analysis involved Pearson correlation and multiple regression to examine the relationships between variables. Results: The study revealed significant relationships among five variables. Gender (p-value = 0.004), bullying (p-value = 0.002), disappointment (p-value = 0.001), sharing place (p-value = 0.002), and communication pattern (p-value = 0.010) were identified as factors associated with Non-Suicidal Self-Injury behavior in adolescents. On the other hand, personality (p-value = 0.174), environment (p-value = 0.260), coping mechanism (p-value = 0.458), and parenting style (p-value = 0.054) showed no association with Non-Suicidal Self-Injury behavior. Conclusions: The findings underscore the significance of disappointment and the absence of a supportive environment in influencing NSSI. This highlights important considerations for healthcare professionals, educators, and policymakers. Strategies should encompass comprehensive approaches, early detection, and targeted interventions to foster supportive environments and address the complex nature of NSSI among adolescents.

The objective of this study was to do a comprehensive analysis of the available literature in order to investigate the impact of Diabetes Self-Management Education (DSME) on adherence to dietary guidelines among individuals with diabetes in Indonesia. This study employed a method of descriptive literature review. Relevant keywords were used to conduct literature searches on academic databases including PubMed, Scopus, and Google Scholar. Relevant articles were picked based on specific criteria, and data were collected from them. The initial studies found from databases were 1,730 and after applied inclusion and exclusion criteria, the final studies included to this study was nine studies (2012 – 2024). The gathered data were subsequently examined through three distinct stages: data reduction, data presentation, and generating conclusions that was done by all authors. The results indicated that Diabetes Self-Management Education (DSME) programs had a notable effect on the degree of adherence to dietary guidelines in individuals with Diabetes Mellitus (DM). Patients who engaged in the DSME program exhibited greater adherence to the prescribed diet, in contrast to those who did not partake in the program.

Abstract

Introduction: The development of technology is marked by the widespread use of gadgets not only by adults, but children also have the same interest. Excessive intensity of gadget use can indicate addiction to gadget use. Children's dependence on gadgets is due to the convenience and sophistication features contained in them, however, the games on gadgets make children less active, have less emotional expression, have minimal self-awareness, and have minimal social interaction with peers because they make children only fixated on their gadget screens. Previous research has revealed that actively play with peers can have a positive influence on children's gadget addiction, playing with peers can also be used as an effort to stimulate aspects of child development. Objectives: This research aims to determine the effect of the snakes and ladders game on the level of gadget addiction in school-age children at SDN Sendangmulyo 02 Semarang. Methods: This is quasi-experimental research with one-group pretest-posttest design. Purposive sampling was used as the sampling technique with 18 school-age children as respondents. This research used the Shapiro-Wilk Normality Test and the Wilcoxon Signed Ranks Test was used as the hypothesis test. Results: The results of the study analyzed using the Wilcoxon Signed Ranks Test showed a p-value <0.05, which is 0.000. Conclusion: Based on analysis results can be concluded that the snakes and ladders game influences the level of gadget addiction in school-age children.
