Abstract

The production of oil palm is influenced by various production factors. This study aims to: (1) describe the general characteristics of independent oil palm farming in Bayung Lencir District, Musi Banyuasin Regency; and (2) analyze the production factors affecting its yield. The research was conducted from March 1 to April 21, 2025, in three villages: Wonorejo (highest production), Pangkalan Bayat (moderate production), and Mendis Jaya (lowest production). A quantitative method was applied using the Cobb-Douglas production function in logarithmic form, analyzed with multiple linear regression. Primary and secondary data were collected through interviews and documentation. A total of 62 farmers were selected using random sampling. The independent variables analyzed were land area (X1), plant age (X2), labor (X3), NPK fertilizer (X4), and pesticides (X5). The results show that independent oil palm farming in Bayung Lencir District is mostly conducted on privately owned land, averaging 3 hectares, with an average plant age of 7 years, indicating a productive phase. The average production reached 13.7 tons of fresh fruit bunches (FFB) per hectare per year. Regression analysis yielded an adjusted R² of 0.93, indicating that 93% of production variation is explained by the independent variables. Partially, land area, plant age, labor, and NPK fertilizer significantly affected production, while pesticides showed no significant effect.

Abstract

Regional economic development required the identification of potential sectors as a basis for policy formulation. This study aimed to: 1) describe the condition of agricultural subcategories in Kerinci Regency; 2) analyze agricultural subcategories as base or non-base sectors; and 3) analyze the role of agricultural subcategories in the regional economy based on the Gross Regional Domestic Product aspect. The research was conducted in Kerinci Regency, with Jambi Province serving as the reference region. The data used were Gross Regional Domestic Product at constant prices (2010 base year) for the period 2014–2023, which were analyzed using Location Quotient, Dynamic Location Quotient, and Shift-Share analysis. The results showed that agricultural subcategories were the largest contributors to the agriculture, forestry, and fisheries category, accounting for 97.31%, and contributed 44.8% to the total Gross Regional Domestic Product. The Location Quotient analysis indicated that agricultural subcategories were base sectors, with food crops, horticulture, livestock, and agricultural services and hunting classified as base sectors, while plantations were categorized as non-base. The Dynamic Location Quotient analysis showed that agricultural subcategories were projected to become non-base sectors in the future. Meanwhile, the Shift-Share analysis identified horticulture as the only sub-subcategory that experienced competitive growth, while other sub-subcategories exhibited relatively slow growth within the agricultural subcategory. These findings confirmed that the agricultural sector had significant potential and required improvements in productivity, intensification strategies, and the provision of sustainable agricultural land to strengthen its role.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the development of Indonesia’s cinnamon export volume and identify the factors affecting its export performance in the international market. The variables examined include Indonesia’s cinnamon export volume, domestic cinnamon production, China’s cinnamon production, Indonesia’s cinnamon export price, and the exchange rate of the Indonesian rupiah against the US dollar. The analysis employed the Autoregressive Distributed Lag (ARDL) approach to examine long-run relationships and the Error Correction Model (ECM) to identify short-run dynamics. The results indicate that Indonesia’s cinnamon export volume fluctuated over time but showed an increasing trend in the long run. The Bounds Test confirmed the existence of cointegration among the variables. In the long run, the current export price, the exchange rate lagged by one period, and China’s cinnamon production lagged by one and two periods have a positive and significant effect on Indonesia’s cinnamon export volume. Conversely, the previous period’s export volume has a significant negative effect on the current export volume. Domestic cinnamon production was found to have no significant effect. The short-run ECM results reveal a significant adjustment mechanism toward long-run equilibrium. China’s cinnamon production lagged by one period, domestic production lagged by one period, and export volume lagged by two periods negatively and significantly affect current export volume, while the current exchange rate has a positive effect.
