Abstract

Daphnia magna is a small crustacean or often called a water flea that lives in fresh waters. According to Putri et al., (2015), the nutritional content of Daphnia magna is 39.24% protein, 4.98% fat, 4.32% carbohydrates, ash content 14.63%. One of the Daphnia magna foods that can be given is tofu pulp which has a protein content of 27.55% to support its growth. The aim of this research was to obtain the most optimal growth of Daphnia magna after being given fermented tofu dregs at different doses. The method used was an experiment with a completely randomized design consisting of 4 treatments and 3 replications. The treatment carried out consisted of giving fermented tofu dregs in Daphnia magna maintenance media with different doses, namely P0 (0 gr/control), P1 (20 gr), P2 (30 gr), P3 (40 gr). Based on the results of research that has been carried out, it was found that P2 treatment with a dose of 30 grams gave the highest growth of Daphnia magna at 1,460 individuals. The high number of Daphnia magna populations given a dose of 30 grams can be utilized optimally for the growth and survival of Daphnia magna. The research results obtained concluded that giving fermented tofu dregs at a dose of 30 gr (P2) was able to have a significant effect (P < 0.05) on the increase in the Daphnia magna population.

Abstract

Striped catfish is the leading commodity for freshwater aquaculture in Indonesia because of its high economic value, rapid growth, high protein content, and low cholesterol. However, intensive aquaculture systems often degrade water quality due to the accumulation of feed residues and metabolites, which triggers stress, lowers immunity, and increases mortality. One solution is the use of oxygenic probiotics containing Nitrosomonas, Nitrobacter, Rhodobacter, and Saccharomyces to decompose ammonia and improve fish digestion. The effectiveness of probiotics is influenced by the dosage of application. The research was conducted in March 2025 at the Cultivation Technology Laboratory, Universitas Riau, using a one-factor Complete Random Design with four levels of treatment (P0 = control, P1 = 1.5 mL/L, P2 = 2.5 mL/L, P3 = 3.5 mL/L, P4 = 4.5 mL/L) and three replicates for 30 days. The results showed P3 as the best treatment with an absolute weight of 4.44±0.03 g, an absolute length of 3.41±0.01 cm, a specific growth rate of 4.37±0.05%, a survival rate of 95.5±3.85%, and an FCR of 1.32±0.005. Water quality parameters: temperature 25.86–29°C, pH 6.1–8.1, DO 4.1–7.2 mg/L, and ammonia 0.003–0.168 mg/L.

Abstract

Copra meal flour is used as a fish feed ingredient with a fairly high protein content of 18–24%. However, its crude fiber content is high, which can reduce its digestibility. Therefore, fermentation is needed to improve the quality of copra meal. This study aims to determine the percentage of copra meal flour fermented with EM4 in feed to produce the best feed efficiency and growth of gorami fish. This study employed an experimental method with a completely randomized design (CRD). Five types of feed were formulated to contain 32% protein, with feed P0 containing 100% soybean meal (control feed), and feeds P1, P2, P3, and P4 replacing soybean meal with fermented copra meal at 25%, 50%, 75%, and 100%, respectively gorami fish fry (with an average body weight of 2.08 ± 0.11 g) were stocked in floating net cages measuring 1 × 1 × 1 m3 at a density of 25 fish per cage. The experimental feed was given at 10% of the test fish biomass frequency three times a day at 08.00, 12.00, and 16.00 WIB, for 56 days. Feed digestibility was measured by giving the test feed three times a day to satiation, mixed with Cr2O3 and protein. The results showed that the use of TBKF in the feed significantly improved feed efficiency and gorami fry growth. Based on the results, it can be concluded that the use of 75% fermented copra meal can replace soybean meal in gorami feed, with feed digestibility (57.63%),  protein digestibility (80.08%), protein retention (37.56%), feed efficiency (52.31%), and specific growth rate (4.05%).
