Abstract

Bajakah (Uncaria cordata (Lour.) Merr.) is an endemic plant to Kalimantan which is widely used as medicine. Various studies have been conducted regarding the phytochemical content and biological activity of Bajakah. Phytochemical screening was carried out for the content of alkaloids, flavonoids, polyphenols, triterpenoids, steroids, saponins, and tannins. Literature studies show that Bajakah has antioxidant activity within ethanol fraction with a very strong capacity as indicated by an IC50 value of 49.22 ppm, within the nhexane fraction with a medium capacity as indicated by an IC50 value of 108.22 ppm, and within ethyl acetate fraction with a medium capacity as indicated by an IC50 value of 130.30 ppm. Bajakah is also known to have antihyperuricemia activity by reducing uric acid levels at extract doses of 5.3 mg/30gBW, 10.6 mg/30gBW, and 21.2 mg/30gBW. Anticholesterol activity was indicated by reducing cholesterol levels at extract doses of 5.3 mg/30grW (11.45%), 10.2 mg/30grW (12.89%), and 21.2 mg/30grW (21.05%). Antiinflammatory activity was showed by testing the ethyl acetate extract of Bajakah stem at doses of 200 and 400 mg/kgBW. The acute toxicity test showed an LD50 value of >5000 mg/kgBW; indicating that the butanol fraction of Bajakah is relatively harmless and has potential as a standardized herbal medicine (OHT). Abstract

Plants at this time are widely used as medicine because according to some research medicinal materials, plants that have the potential as medicine do not cause too many side effects. One of the plants that are used as medicine is agarwood leaves because it is known to have several medicinal properties, one of them is as an antibacterial drug. This study was conducted to find out the secondary metabolite compounds contained in agarwood leaves and to determine the MIC value of agarwood leaves methanol extract against Streptococcus sobrinus KCCM 11898 and Salmonella typhi ATCC 422, by means of agarwood leaves extracted using methanol, phytochemical screening, and antibacterial activity tests using disc diffusion method. Phytochemical screening of agarwood leaves methanol extract results revealed alkaloids, steroids and phenolics. The MIC value of agarwood leaves methanol extract toward Streptococcus sobrinus KCCM 11898 and Salmonella typhi ATCC 422 is 1.25%.

Abstract

Synthesis of ethylenediamide surfactant from coffee bean oil methyl ester (Coffea arabica. L) through an amidation reaction. The synthesis process that has been carried out includes extraction, esterification and amidation of coffee bean oil content by soxhletation of 15.47% with acid number 3.15 mg KOH/g and ALB 1.58%. Coffee bean oil is converted to methyl ester through esterification and acid number is 1.50 mg KOH/g ALB level drops to 0.75% saponification number of 57.11 mg KOH / g. The most dominant composition of the coffee bean oil methyl ester based on GC-MS analysis was 48.0% methyl oleate. The FT-IR spectrum of methyl ester gives a specific absorption peak C = O ester at wave number 1745 cm-1. Methyl esters are converted to ethylenediamide through an amidation process. The resulting ethylenediamide has an acid number of 9.1 mg KOH/g and a saponification number of 3.39 mg KOH/g. The FT-IR spectrum provides specific absorption peaks for groups C=O at wave number 1639 cm1 and C-N at wave number 3302 cm-1. Ethylenediamide HLB values are practically 12.5495 which includes oil in water (O/W) emulsifier surfactants.
