Abstract

Phytochemical test and antibacterial activity of ethanol extract of Mahoni seed (Swietenia mahagoni (L.) Jacq) have been done. The extraction of Mahoni seed samples was carried out by the maceration method using ethanol as a solvent. An antibacterial activity test was carried out using the agar diffusion method. Phytochemical tests results show that ethanol extract of Mahoni seeds has secondary metabolites of alkaloid, triterpenoid, and phenolic compounds. The antibacterial activity test results obtained MIC values for Streptococcus mutans bacteria were 1.25-2.5% and for Salmonella typhi bacteria at 0.625-1.25%. Ethanol extract of Mahoni seeds has broad-spectrum antibacterial activity.

Abstract

Artificial photosynthesis modelling of Ca-Pc-PDI complex Ca Phthalocyanine Perylenediimide), and dendrimer molecule using Density of Functional Theory (DFT) Method has been studied to showed the energy efficiency of these compounds in terms of electron transfer in photosynthesis. The Analysis of Ca-Pc-PDI and dendrimer compound and also chlorophyl has been done in all computations using the GAMESS-US software. The computations result in this research showed that the large wavelength complex compounds of Ca-Pc-PDI obtained was 138.3299 nm and energy efficiency obtained was 0.89 eV. The data analysis states that the absorption of harvest light energy of complex compounds Ca-Pc-PDI lies in the far UV spectrum. The other side, the polyphenylene dendrimer structure molecular orbital analyses it was found that the dendrimer was capable of electron transfers as indicated by the existence of HOMO and LUMO and result comparisons with chlorophyll. UV wavelengths of the polyethylene dendrimer and chlorophyll, respectively, suggesting that the polyphenylene dendrimer is capable of substituting chlorophyll in artificial photosyntheses. We can states from the result that these compound ability to be applied in the modeling of artificial photosynthesis as a material of energy absorption that mimics the workings of chlorophyll in terms of electron transfer in natural photosynthesis process. Abstract

Sirih hutan is a plant that belongs to the genus Piper and is found in many tropical areas, especially in tropical Asia. Sirih contains essential oils composed of betlephenol, cavikol, sesquiterpenes, hydroxycavikol, cavibetol, estragol, eugenol, and carvakrol which against Gram positive bacteria and Gram negative bacteria. Antibacterial activity test of ethanol extract of sirih hutan (Piper aduncum L.) has been conducted. This study aims to determine secondary metabolite compounds contained in sirih hutan leaves and potential as antibacterials, determined using the disc diffusion method. From the results of phytochemical tests, secondary metabolite compounds contained in sirih hutan are obtained in the form of alkaloids, steroids, phenolics, flavonoids, tannins, quinones and saponins. The results of the literature showed that sirih hutan leaf ethanol extract had antibacterial activity with the highest concentration used at 60% and the diameter of the inhibitory zone formed in Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus was 14 mm. Abstract

Balakacida is a plant that grows in open areas and thrives in plantations, so this plant is often referred to as a weed. This plant is often used as a live pharmaceutical plant to cure several diseases. Various studies on the phytochemical content of Balakacida plants have been conducted. Phytochemical identification of Balakacida plants shows that Balakacida plants contain phytochemical aglycones, flavonoids, terpenoids, essential oils, alkaloids, saponins, tannins and steroids. Literature studies show that Balakacida leaves have toxicity activity shown in the LC50 value. The LC50 values obtained in the crude extract, n-hexane fraction, ethyl acetate are 2.88 ppm, 8.12 ppm and 6.86 ppm respectively. It is known that Balakacida plants have high antioxidant content, this is influenced by its high flavonoid levels. In Balakacida leaf extract, having an IC50 value of 23.4 µg/mL. So that researchers can conclude that Balakacida leaf extract has phytochemical content of aglycone groups, flavonoids, terpenoids, essential oils, alkaloids, saponins, tannins and steroids, with very strong toxicity and antioxidant activity.
