Abstract

Research on the synthesis of sulfonated mesoporous Silica from bamboo leaves ash (Dendrocalamus asper) as Heterogeneous Acid Catalyst has been conducted. Bamboo Leaf Ashfish serves as a source of silica for the manufacture of Mesoporous Silica. The research phase consisted of synthesis of MSU-H with surfactant template method, mesoporous silica modification with 3-mercaptopropyl-trimethoxysilane (MPTMS) using post grafting method. The mesoporous silica has a pore volume of 1.03 cm3/g, a surface area of 150 m2/g and a pore diameter of 27.5 nm. The FT-IR spectrum of mesoporous silica before sulfonation shows the presence of Si-O-Si, and Si-OH functional groups while that of Mesoporous silica after sulfonation shows the presence of Si-O-Si, Si-O, Si-OH and –SO3H functional groups.

Abstract

Phytochemical tests, toxicity tests and antioxidant activities of mahogany seeds (Swietenia mahagoni (L) Jacq) were carried out. This study is meant to identify the secondary metabolism, the LC50 and LC50 of extract of ethanol, n-hexane fraction, and ethyl acetate fraction with the seeds of (Swietenia mahagoni (L) Jacq). Phytochemical screening on ethanol extract of mahogany seeds showed the presence of alkaloids, flavonoids, triterpenoids and phenolic n-Hexane fraction contains alkaloids compounds, triterpenoid and phenolic compounds. Ethyl acetate fraction contains flavonoids, triterpenoids and phenolic compounds. The toxicity level is performed by tests of BSLT (Brine shrimp lethality test), while antioxidant activity is performed by a spectrofotometr uv-vis. The total extract of ethanol is obtained at the smallest amount of LC50 for 49.47565 ppm, n-Hexane fractions obtained from LC50 as much 75.30347 ppm, ethyl acetate fraction obtained from LC50 as much as 77.87461 ppm and those three extracts are toxic. The IC50 value of a total ethanol of 176 ppm, n-Hexane fraction of as 189 ppm and ethyl acetate fraction of 144 ppm with is strength medium antioxidant.

The synthesis process was conducted on the extraction, esterification and transesterification. The results showed cattapa seed oil content of 51.9%, the acid value of 7.559 mg KOH / g and ALB levels of 3.4496%. The composition of the oil determined using GC-MS. GC-MS analysis of the composition of the most dominant oil is oleic acid amounted to 34.86%. Esterification process in the formation of methyl esters can be known ALB decreased to 0.7%. Methyl esters are reacted with triethanolamine through a transesterification reaction. The results showed esteramin water surface tension value of 34.947 dyne / cm, the HLB value of 5.25 is included in the water in oil emulsifiers scale and on a TLC plate there are two stains.

Abstract

Potential of Ciplukan plant as natural antioxidants, the aim of this research is to determine the antioxidant potential of Ciplukan plant. First step is to know the active compound of the plant. Alkaloid and saponin are present at ciplukan leaves, stem and fruit, meanwhile steroid is present at leaves and stem. Moreover, flavonoid and triterpenoid is only present at stem and fruit, respectively. Phytochemical test are employed to dermine the active compound in the leaves, stem and fruit of ciplukan. Brine shimp lethality test are conducted to determine toxicity of the extract. The LC50 from the leaves extract is 962.054 ppm, stem extract is 753.558 ppm and at the fruit is 1.004,73 ppm. Antioxidant activity measurement conducted by reacting the sample with 1,1-difenil-2-pikrilhidrazil radical and measures the absorbance at wavelength 517 nm. Vitamin C is use as positive control. The inhibition concentration 50 vitamin C is 34.91 ppm. Meanwhile, the Inhibition concentration 50 of the leaves extract is 60.34 ppm, the stem extract is 56.36 ppm and the fruit extract is 63.46 ppm. These result indicated that Ciplukan plant is potensial as antioxidant source. Keywords: leaves, stems, fruit ciplukan (Physalis angulata.L), antioxidants,, DPPH and BSLT.

Abstract

This research about the manufacture of biodegradable film from cempedak (Artocapus champeden sp.) seed starch and CMC (Carboxy Methyl Cellulose) as well as with the addition of glycerol as a plasticizer has been studied. The purpose of this research are to knowing the concentration of glycerol which have the best of tensile strength, percent elongation, water uptake and biodegradability and knowing the characteristic of biodegradable film produced. In this research the ratio of starch: CMC used is 7:3 while the concentration glycerol is added 10%, 20%, 30% and 40% from the weight of starch. The result of the best concentration of glycerol is glycerol 10%. Glycerol 10% produce a film with 19.62 N/mm2 of tensile strength, 4.98% of percent elongation, 54.33% of water uptake and 39.96% of degradation in 2 days with degradability 24.9 mg/day. Biodegradable film characterized by using FT-IR, analysis result of functional groups showing there are alcohol (O-H) and eter (C-O) groups which indicates that the film is biodegradable.
