Abstract

The Tanimbar Islands are one of the areas in Maluku Province which is classified as an underdeveloped area in Indonesia and is included in the 3T category. This district borders directly with Australia. The underdevelopment of the Tanimbar Islands covers various sectors including education. The quality of teachers, availability of books, and other facilities and infrastructure are still very minimal. The results of observations and discussions with teachers at Naskat II Elementary School Santo Ignatius Olilit Timur showed that the development of devices is still less innovative because teachers do not participate in training that supports improving teacher competence in science learning in the classroom. Therefore, the purpose of this service is to increase the capacity of teachers in developing innovative learning devices to support 21st century life skills. Therefore, professional lecturers from the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, Pattimura University, conducted training and mentoringin developing learning tools based on innovative learning. The results achieved from this activity mentoring are 86.28%teachers have been able to develop science learning tools well. Therefore, it is important for lecturers, Widyaiswara at the Education Quality Assurance Center (BPMP) in each province, school supervisors and education observers to continue to collaborate with teachers in sharing experiences and knowledge in improving teacher capacity

Abstract

Learning science in the archipelago has challenges and obstacles even though there has been a change in curriculum.  The problem in this study is how science is taught in the context of the KBK, KTSP and K-13 curricula. The aims of this research is to develop the curriculum from the KBK to the 2013 Curriculum in science learning. Qualitative research was carried out using case studies to check conditions through in-depth interviews with informants. The informants involved were teachers and principals at 17 elementary schools as well as the head of the local education office. Data collection was carried out through structured interviews with informants. The research instrument was an interview question sheet containing approximately 7 question items developed by the researcher based on the research objectives. Data analysis was carried out qualitatively through reduction, data display, and conclusion. The research findings show that 80% of informants prefer science learning to be managed separately from other lesson content. Although each curriculum has advantages and limitations. This is considered more effective in ensuring a broader and deeper understanding of the science concept. In addition, it was also revealed that the availability of facilities and teacher competence are factors that support the success of learning science in elementary schools. For future researchers, it is recommended that learning and curriculum be designed by showing partiality to subject matter and not combining one field of science with another.

Abstract

Jigsaw type cooperative learning is explored again to train students from an early age to become a small expert to reveal the effects it has on the cognitive achievement of elementary students. The study was conducted at one of the public schools in Ambon City, preceded by a placement test on the classes used. The cognitive learning achievement test instrument was developed with a cognitive load reaching C4 and has met the instrument quality prerequisite tests. The results of the study prove that there are differences in student learning outcomes in learning with Jigsaw and Example Non-Example (ENE) types. The corrected mean score showed that the treatment group was 25,856 points higher than the control group. This means that Jigsaw is superior in improving student cognitive achievement compared to ENE. Thus, Jigsaw can be used in other learning in elementary school because it has the potential to enhance student learning outcomes. Further studies are needed to uncover the potential of Jigsaw to empower various types of learning outcomes and other thinking skills.
