Abstract

This research aims to improve students' critical thinking skills in mathematics learning through a problem based learning model with the Teaching at the Right Level (TaRL) approach in class XI-3 students at SMAN Terpadu Madani Model in the even semester of the 2023/2024 academic year. Data collection methods use observation, cognitive tests, learning results documents. Having a final performance indicator of 78% (28 out of 36 students) got the complete category, with pre-cycle details of 33% (12 out of 36 students) getting the high category, in the first cycle 53% (19 out of 36 students) got the high category, In the second cycle, 78% (28 of 36 students) got the high category. So it can be concluded that the application of the Problem Based Learning model with the Teaching at the Right Level (TaRL) approach can improve students' critical thinking skills in mathematics lessons on polynomial material.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the errors made by students in solving problems on the material of circle equations based on Newman's Error Analysis (NEA) reviewing gender differences. This type of research is Descriptive research with a qualitative approach conducted in class XI MIA 2 Madrasah Aliyah Alkhairaat Kalangkangan. This study uses a test and interview method. The subjects of the study were 36 students of class XI MIA 2 who were given a classification test to obtain data on high-ability students. Choosing 2 informants as test and interview subjects, namely one female student with the most errors and one male student with the most errors. The results of this study are (1) reading error; 2) understanding the problem (comprehension error); 3) transformation error (transformation error); 4) process skills error; 5) error in writing the final answer (encoding error). Conclusion, the teacher's ability to identify errors made by students is very important to support the improvement of the learning process. The errors found include errors in reading questions, understanding problems, and mathematical process errors that include transformation errors, process skills, and writing final answers. Teachers need to pay more attention to the early stages of understanding questions and ensure that students can master the skill process correctly in order to reduce errors in calculations and writing final answers. Abstract

This study aims to obtain a description of the mathematical representation of grade VIII students of SMPN Model Terpadu Madani in solving comparative story problems in terms of gender. This type of research is qualitative research with a qualitative descriptive approach. The subjects of the study were 2 students of SMPN Model Terpadu Madani, namely 1 male student and 1 female student. Data collection techniques used in this study include written tests and interviews. The results of the study showed that male and female students used indicators of mathematical representation, namely verbal representation, symbolic representation, and visual representation when solving comparative story problems. The verbal representation of male and female students was able to write down the steps to solve mathematical problems according to the indicators. The symbolic representation used by male and female students was able to write equations, mathematical models, mathematical operations and solve problems involving mathematical expressions. The conclusion is that male and female students generally use visual representation, but there are differences between male and female students. Male students only use pictures to clarify while female students use pictures and tables to clarify and facilitate problem solving. Abstract

This study aims to obtain an overview of the critical thinking skills of male and female students in class VII A SMPN 9 Palu on fraction addition material. This research aims to: 1) to obtain a description of the critical thinking ability of male students on the addition and subtraction of fractions 2) to obtain a description of the critical thinking ability of female students on the addition and subtraction of fractions. This type of research is descriptive using a qualitative approach. The subjects of this research were 2 students taken from 31 students of class VII A SMPN 9 Palu consisting of 1 male student with high mathematics ability and 1 female student with high mathematics ability. The results of this study showed that male and female subjects with high mathematics ability were able to fulfill the indicators of critical thinking ability by Facione (2015), namely: (1) can interpret the problem by identifying the information known and asked appropriately and able to interpret and understand the symbols contained in the problem, (2) connect between statements, questions and concepts by making mathematical modeling appropriately (3) determine and use the right strategy in the calculation process so as to find the right final solution, (4) able to draw conclusions from what is asked in the problem, and (5) have the awareness to re-examine the solution of the problem given by identifying errors in determining the strategy or in the calculation process and then being able to believe the answer. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk memperoleh gambaran kemampuan berpikir kritis siswa laki-laki dan perempuan kelas VII A SMPN 9 Palu pada materi penjumlahan pecahan. Jenis penelitian ini adalah deskriptif dengan menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif. Subjek penelitian ini adalah 2 orang siswa yang diambil dari  31 siswa kelas VII A SMPN 9 Palu yang terdiri dari 1 orang siswa laki-laki berkemampuan matematika tinggi dan 1 orang siswa perempuan berkemampuan matematika tinggi. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa subjek laki-laki dan perempuan berkemampuan matematika tinggi mampu memenuhi indikator kemampuan berpikir kritis oleh Facione (2015), yaitu : (1) dapat menginterpretasi masalah dengan mengidentifikasi informasi yang diketahui dan ditanyakan dengan tepat serta mampu memaknai dan memahami simbol yang terdapat di soal, (2) menghubungkan antara pernyataan, pertanyaan dan konsep-konsep dengan membuat pemodelan matematika dengan tepat (3) menentukan dan menggunakan strategi yang tepat dalam proses perhitungan sehingga mampu menemukan solusi akhir yang tepat, (4) mampu menarik kesimpulan dari apa yang ditanyakan pada soal, dan (5) memiliki kesadaran untuk memeriksa kembali penyelesaian soal yang diberikan dengan mengidentifikasi kesalahan dalam menentukan strategi maupun pada proses perhitungan serta kemudian mampu meyakini jawabannya.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the errors made by students in completing final semester exam (UAS) questions in the field of mathematics, namely linear programming, matrices and transformation geometry. The subjects of this study were students of class XI Nursing at SMK Kesehatan Indonesia Jaya Parigi. In determining the research subjects, purposive sampling technique was used . The data collection technique for this study used documentation of essay questions for the final semester exam and documentation of student answer sheets and interviews. The data analysis technique used according to Miles and Huberman is condensation of UAS and interview results data, presenting UAS and interview results data and drawing conclusions. The results of this study indicate that the errors made by students are conceptual errors, procedural errors and technical errors. Indicators of conceptual errors made by students are not being able to interpret problems/use terms, concepts, and principles, students are not able to choose formulas/properties correctly and students are not able to apply formulas/properties accurately. Indicators of procedural errors are inconsistencies in the solution steps with the questions asked and not being able to complete the questions until the final stage. Indicators of technical errors are errors in arithmetic operations and errors in moving numbers or arithmetic operations from one step to the next. Factors causing errors made by UAS participants are not understanding the questions well, lack of mastery of concepts in Matrix, Linear Programs and Transformation Geometry materials, rarely practicing reworking examples of questions, students only see and read examples of questions. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis kesalahan yang dilakukan oleh siswa dalam menyelesaikan soal ujian akhir semester (UAS) pada bidang studi matematika yaitu materi program linear, matriks dan geometri transformasi. Subjek penelitian ini adalah siswa kelas XI Keperawatan SMK Kesehatan Indonesia Jaya Parigi. Dalam penentuan Subjek penelitian dilakukan dengan teknik purposive sampling. Teknik pengumpulan data penelitian ini menggunakan dokumentasi soal uraian (essay) ujian akhir semester dan dokumentasi lembar jawaban siswa serta wawancara. Teknik analisis data yang digunakan menurut Miles dan Huberman yaitu kondensasi data hasil UAS dan hasil wawancara, menyajikan data hasil UAS dan wawancara dan penarikan kesimpulan. Dari hasil analisis lembar jawaban siswa pada materi program linear persentase jawaban salah 52%, persentase jawaban slah pada materi matriks 76% dan persentase jawaban salah pada materi geometri transformasi 50%. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan kesalahan yang dilakukan oleh siswa yaitu kesalahan konsep, kesalahan prosedur dan kesalahan teknik. Indikator kesalahan konsep yang dilakukan siswa tidak dapat menginterpretasikan masalah/menggunakan istilah, konsep, dan prinsip, siswa tidak dapat memilih rumus/sifat dengan tepat dan siswa tidak dapat menerapkan rumus/sifat secara akurat. Indikator kesalahan prosedur adalah ketidaksesuaian langkah penyelesaian dengan soal yang ditanyakan dan tidak dapat menyelesaikan soal sampai tahap akhir. Indikator kesalahan teknik adalah kesalahan pada operasi hitung dan kesalahan dalam memindahkan angka atau operasi hitung dari satu langkah ke langkah berikutnya. Faktor penyebab kesalahan yang dilakukan peserta UAS adalah tidak memahami soal dengan baik, penguasaan konsep pada materi Matriks, Program Linear dan Geometri Transformasi yang masih kurang, jarang berlatih mengerjakan kembali contoh-contoh soal siswa hanya melihat dan membaca contoh soal.

Abstract

Student learning motivation will increase, which is determined by the teacher's ability to learn design. As a result, students are more interested in actively searching and finding their ideas. This study aims to determine increased student activity and motivation to learn mathematics on Limited trigonometric function. Researchers used the Window-Shopping learning model assisted by Padlet. This research is a collaborative Classroom Action Research. The subjects in this study are students of class XII-1 at Madani Integrated Model Senior High School in the 2023/2024 academic year. The stages in the research follow the flow of Kemmis and McTaggart and consist of planning, action, observation, and reflection. Data collection in this study was conducted by observing student activity during the teaching and learning process and using questionnaires. The results showed that students' learning activities are significantly increased. This happens more when they are involved in the learning process; consequently, students can build their knowledge. Students support each other, share ideas, and collaborate in constructing their knowledge. In addition, the results of this study are based on the completion of a student learning motivation questionnaire. Based on the questionnaire obtained in the first cycle, it amounted to 70.67%. In the second cycle, it increased by 11.35%. So, the total increase is 82.02%. This can be categorized in the predicate "good."

Abstract

This study aims to describe the students' representation profile in solving Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS) based problems on chance material in class VIII of SMPN 3 Tolitoli, in terms of gender. The representations studied include three aspects: visual, verbal, and symbolic. This research used descriptive method with qualitative approach. The research subjects consisted of two students with high mathematical ability, one male student and one female student. Data were collected through HOTS-based tests and in-depth interviews. The results showed that male students tended to excel in visual and symbolic representations, able to present data in the form of diagrams and solve problems using mathematical expressions well. On the other hand, female students are more dominant in verbal representations, especially in writing down interpretations and solution steps in detail. This research emphasizes the importance of a representation-based learning approach to improve students' higher order thinking skills, taking into account the characteristics and advantages of each subject.

Abstract

Mathematical communication skills are one of the skills that must be improved in students because before solving a problem and doing reasoning, students need to have mathematical communication skills first, namely the ability to convey mathematical ideas, both verbally and in writing and the ability to understand and accept other people's mathematical ideas, as well as the ability to use symbols, notations, and structures in a mathematical concept. The purpose of this study was to obtain an overview of the improvement of students' mathematical communication skills through collaborative classroom action research methods. As for improving mathematical communication skills in class XI-2 students at SMA Negeri Model Terpadu Madani, the researcher utilized media in the form of presentation boards given to students in groups to train their ability to express ideas and present them to other students in front of the class. Based on the results of the study, the mathematical communication skills of students in the class continued to increase in each cycle given for 6 meetings.

Abstract

This study aims to describe students' errors in solving algebra problems in class VII A of SMP Negeri 3 Dampelas. This research employs a descriptive method with a qualitative approach. Three students from class VII A were selected as research subjects, focusing on conceptual and procedural errors. The identified errors include mistakes in concepts, principles, and facts. Conceptual errors involve misconceptions in the addition of like terms. Principle errors occur when students incorrectly conclude the final answer. Factual errors involve mistakes in writing variables. Procedural errors include general mistakes, arithmetic operation errors, and errors in simplifying algebraic fractions.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the effect of the Team Quiz method on student learning motivation in mathematics subjects in class VIII SMP Negeri 2 Poso Pesisir Utara. This research design uses a quasiexperiment method consisting of two groups, namely the experimental class and the control class. The experimental class was class VIII B consisting of 26 students and the control class was class VIII A consisting of 28 students. Data were collected through a learning motivation questionnaire consisting of 30 statement items, which were used as pretest and posttest questionnaires in the Experimental class and posttest questionnaires in the control class. Data analysis was carried out using descriptive and non-parametric statistical techniques, specifically the Mann-Whitney test as hypothesis data analysis. Hypothesis testing using the Mann-Whitney test showed a significance value (Asymp. Sig. 2-tailed) of 0.000, which is smaller than 0.05. This indicates a significant difference in student learning motivation before and after the application of the Team Quiz method. Thus, it can be concluded that the Team Quiz method has an effect in increasing student learning motivation in mathematics learning in class VIII SMP Negeri 2 Poso Pesisir Utara.
