Abstract

Listening is prerequisite for oral proficiency and is recognized as fundamental skills. Through listening, students can build an awareness of the language systems and establish more fluent productive skills.  This research is generally aimed to help the students of English improve their listening skills and develop their awareness on distinctive sounds which are not native to their mother tongue, as well as to help language teachers in designing the effective lesson plans for the listening courses. This study on the role of phonetics in language teaching is highly expected to develop better understanding in the target language and encourage native-like English pronunciation for Indonesian students.The findings showed that the students found difficulties in listening and pronouncing distinctive segments namely: /ʃ/, /ʒ/, /θ/, /ð/; long vowels /i:/, /a:/, /ɔ:/, /u:/, /3ː/;  diphthongs /eI/, /әʊ/, /Iә/, /eә/, /ʊә/; and final clusters. The use of articulatory phonetics was proven to be effective in raising the students’ awareness in producing English sounds which differ in place and manner of articulation. It could be seen from the post-test results in which there were fewer students who made mistakes in listening and pronouncing distinctive sounds. The audio-lingual method was appropriate to the teaching of the aural skill as it employed listening-imitation-practice-production to teach English pronunciation.

Abstract

This research is aimed to analyse language functions in  English, specifically those which are used in the context of Food and Beverage Service. The findings of the analysis related to the language functions are then applied in a teaching method which is designed to improve the students’ abilities in speaking English. There are two novelties in this research. The first one is  the theory of language functions which is reconstructed in accordance with the Food and Beverage Service context. Those language functions are: permisive (to soften utterances, to avoid repetition, and  to adjust intonation); interactive (to greet, to have small talks, and farewell); informative (to introduce, to show, to state, to explain, to ask, to agree, to reject, and to confirm); persuasive (to offer, to promise, to suggest, and to persuade); directive (to tell, to order, and to request); indicative (to praise, to complain, to thank, and to apologize). The second  novelty which is more practical is the design  of the ASRI method which consists of four basic components, namely: Aims (the purpose in communicating); Sequence (the operational procedure in handling guests in the restaurant); Role play (the simmulation activities in language learning); and Interaction (the interactive communications between participants). The method of ASRI with the application of the language functions in its ABCD procedure, namely Acquire, Brainstorm, Chance and Develop is proven to be effective in improving the students’ abilities in speaking English, specifically in the context of  Food and Beverage Service.

Abstract

This study discusses the role of the media in conveying information which changes the perceptions, attitudes, and behavior of the audiences. National TV, mass media, and electronic media provide information on the spread of COVID-19 nationwide every day, thus giving a negative impact on tourism development. The tourists do not dare to move out of the area or even travel. This explains that the media can influence the interest of tourists to travel. On the other hand, information media related to COVID-19 aims to handle the spread of COVID-19 optimally. However, since the news of COVID-19, tourists are afraid to move or travel. Loyalty of tourists traveling has decreased. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between exposure to information on the COVID-19 pandemic on the interest and loyalty of tourists traveling. The data were collected using a questionnaire with a Likert scale measurement scale. While the data analysis technique uses smart PLS. The results of this study suggested 1) there was a positive and significant direct effect between information exposure on visiting interest, 2) there was no positive nor significant direct effect between information exposure on tourist loyalty, 3) there was no positive nor significant direct influence between visiting interest on loyalty of tourists traveling, and 4) there was an indirect effect between exposure to information on loyalty through tourist interest as a mediating variable.

Abstract

This article analysed Balinese verbs from the study of semantics combining the theories of Natural Semantic Metalanguage (NSM) dan speech acts. The analysed verbs in this article were the speech verbs with illocutionary function. Data were collected through note taking and library research. Data were taken from printed resources, books, and the intuition of the researcher as a Balinese native speaker. The method of analysis was descriptive qualitative which classified data, analysed semantic structures of the speech verbs, and described the semantic components to formulate meaning configuration. The result of the analysis showed several speech verbs in Balinese had illocutionary function, including: 1) assertive (ngorahang ‘telling’, nyambatang ‘mention’, nuturang ‘telling’); 2) directive (nunde?n ‘enjoin’, nagih ‘billing’, nuturin ‘advise’); 3) commissive (mejanji ‘promising’, metanje?nan ‘offer’); 4) expressive ngajumang ‘praise’, ngame?lme?l ‘complain’, see ‘blame’, matbat ‘berate’, ngamadakang ‘pray’); and 5) declarative (ngadanin ‘naming’, nombang ‘forbid’).

Abstract

Industri pariwisata yang berkembang sangat pesat di pulau Bali menuntut adanya peningkatan layanan bagi wisatawan manca negara. Salah satu kendala yang masing sering dihadapi oleh para pelaku pariwisata adalah kurangnya keterampilan berkomunikasi menggunakan bahasa Inggris. Selain hotel, restoran adalah penyedia layanan yang paling dibutuhkan oleh wisatawan. Untuk itu, para staf restoran wajib menguasai fungsi-fungsi bahasa dalam melayani para tamu. Fungsi bahasa adalah tujuan komunikasi yang ingin dicapai dalam kegiatan interaktif. Fungsi-fungsi bahasa yang digunakan di bidang tata hidangan, yaitu ‘menyapa’, ‘menanyakan’, ‘berterima kasih’, ‘mengeluh’, ‘merekomendasikan’, dan ‘menjelaskan’. Untuk meningkatkan keterampilan komunikasi, pelatihan bahasa Inggris komunikatif diselenggarakan bagi pramusaji restoran yang tergabung dalam Sarong Group di kabupaten Badung. Kegiatan ini bertujuan agar peserta pelatihan memahami dan mampu menggunakan fungsi-fungsi bahasa yang mendasari tujuan berkomunikasi di restoran. Metode yang digunakan berupa ceramah dan simulasi. Materi pelatihan berfokus pada ekspresi bahasa dan latihan bermain peran sesuai prosedur pelayanan tata hidangan. Setelah sepuluh kali pertemuan, peserta pelatihan mengalami peningkatan dalam berkomunikasi menggunakan bahasa Inggris. Peserta terlihat lebih percaya diri dan mampu menggunakan ekspresi bahasa yang tepat dalam merespon atau memberikan informasi umum pada tamu di restoran.

Abstract

As an international tourist destination, Bali has always been a main target of modern capitalists, both domestic and international. Massive construction of tourism facilities occurred in Bali, which directly affects and threatens the environment and changing social patterns of local communities. It is an irony, because Bali’s tourism relies on environment sustainability, natural landscapes and it’s unique cultural richness. Tumpek Wariga is one of the Balinese’s local genius, particularly in the context of maintaining harmony with all creatures, nature and environment, in form of cultural activitiesor Hindu rituals. These activities are summarized in Bali sublime philosophy which is recognized by UNESCO, namely the Tri Hita Karana. In various region of Bali, Tumpek Wariga is also called Tumpek Pengarah, Tumpek Uduh and Tumpek Bubuh. In this ceremony, the offerings are dedicated to the presence of Ida Sang Hyang Widhi (The Almighty God) in His manifestation as Lord Sangkara (Lord Shiva), the ruler of vegetation and environment in Balinese tradition. The purpose of this study was to assess the ultimate meaning and the implementation of Tumpek Wariga as a Balinese local genius in supporting ecological-based sustainable tourism in Bali. This case study took place in Plaga Village, which is one of the tourist villages developed by the government of Badung regency. This research uses qualitative approach, with data collection methods such as observation, in-depth interview and literature study. Hopefully, this research can be beneficial to all stakeholders and academics of tourism, especially in studies of Balinese local genius, as well as a new reference for the development of ecological based sustainable tourism in Bali.

Abstract

The training and community service activities provided were bookkeeping training for village officials, SPA (Product Making) training for youth in Kenderan village, guiding technique training for youth in Kenderan village, waste management training for PKK village women Kenderan, Marketing Training was given to Youth in Kenderan Village, and Healthy Food Training was given to PKK Mothers in Kenderan Village. All training activities carried out are expected not only to be followed but also to be implemented by all training participants, so that the knowledge provided is able to provide change and assist in the process of developing a tourist village in Kenderan Village as a wellness tourism village. Kegiatan Pelatihan dan Pengabdian Masyarakat yang diberikan adalah Pelatihan pembukuan diberikan untuk perangkat desa, Pelatihan SPA (Product Making) diberikan untuk Pemuda/i di Desa Kenderan, Pelatihan Teknik Memandu diberikan untuk Pemuda/i di Desa Kenderan, Pelatihan Waste Management diberikan untuk Ibu PKK Desa Kenderan, Pelatihan Pemasaran diberikan untuk Pemuda/i di Desa Kenderan, dan Pelatihan Healthy Food diberikan untuk Ibu PKK Desa Kenderan. Seluruh kegiatan pelatihan yang dilaksanakan ini diharapkan tidak hanya sekedar diikuti namun juga dapat diimplementasikan oleh seluruh peserta pelatihan, sehingga ilmu yang diberikan mampu memberikan perubahan dan membantu dalam proses pengembangan desa wisata di Desa Kenderan sebagai desa wisata wellness tourism.

Abstract

Tujuan Pengabdian Kepada Masyarakat (PKM) ini adalah meningkatkan profesionalitas pengelola BUMDes dalam pengelolaan bisnis dan keuangan BUMDes. Metode yang digunakan dalam kegiatan ini adalah metode pembelajaran partsipatif dalam bentuk ceramah, diskusi, Tanya jawab dan praktik terkait dengan pengelolaan keuangan BUMDes. Materi pelatihan yang diberikan mencakup pengelolaan industri dikomparasikan dengan perkembangan BUMDes dan regulasinya, sistem pengorganisasian BUMDes, Akuntansi BUMDes dan penatausahaan serta pertanggung jawaban keuangan BUMDes. Peserta workshop pengelolaan keuangan BUMDes ini terdiri atas kepala desa/wakil desa dan pengelola BUMDes “Panca Arta Mandiri” Desa Dangin Puri Kauh, Kecamatan Denpasar Utara, Kota Denpasar Provinsi Bali. Hasil yang dicapai dari program pengabdian kepada masyarakat (PKM) ini adalah meningkatnya pengetahuan dan ketrampilan aparatur pemerintah desa dan pengelola BUMDes dalam pengelolaan bisnis dan keuangan BUMDes.

Abstract

Hingga sampai saat ini, kompetensi petugas desa atau perangkat desa berupaya meningkatkan kompetensi sebagai dasar pelayanan kepada masyarakat serta berbagai data menyebut bahwa sebagian besar BUMDes masih sebatas berdiri dan belum memiliki aktivitas usaha yang menghasilkan. Tujuan Pengabdian Kepada Masyarakat (PKM) ini adalah meningkatkan kompetensi dari perangkat desa terkait teknologi digital dan pengelola BUMDes pada proses pemasaran yaitu digital marketing. Metode yang digunakan dalam kegiatan ini adalah metode ceramah, diskusi, tanya jawab dan pendampingan terkait pemanfaatan media social terkait branding pada perangkat desan dan digital marketing untuk pengelola BUMDes. Materi pelatihan yang diberikan mencakup pengelolaan industri dikomparasikan dengan dengan kondisi terkini sesuai kemampuan yang dibutuhkan oleh perangkat desa dan kondisi persaingan terkini yang dihadapi oleh BUMDes “Puspa Harum Sejahtera”. Peserta workshop literasi digital dan pengelolaan BUMDes ini terdiri atas kepala desa, sekretaris desa, perangkat desa tegal harum dan pengelola BUMDes “Puspa Harum Sejahtera” Desa Tegal Harum Kecamatan Denpasar Barat Kota Denpasar Bali. Hasil yang dicapai dari program pengabdian kepada masyarakat (PKM) ini adalah meningkatnya pengetahuan dan ketrampilan perangkat pemerintah desa dan pengelola BUMDes dalam pengelolaan digital marketing BUMDes “Puspa Harum Sejahtera”.

Abstract

For the sake of tourism recovery during the post-pandemic period, a storynomic promotion strategy is currently being developed by Indonesian government, and is considered effective in triggering the curiosity and visiting interest of tourists. This study aims to identify the role of storynomics as a moderating variable in strengthening motivation and interest to visit the Tebing Tegallinggah Temple site in Bedulu village, Gianyar, Bali. First, storytelling stories were collected through field research by interviewing selected informants, as well as randomly distributing questionnaires. Second, historical data and documentation were classified and analyzed qualitatively, while respondents' answers were assessed using Smart PLS. Third, the results of data analysis are presented through narrative descriptions supported by tables and figures for visualization. The results showed that motivation and storynomic had a less significant effect on the visiting interest of the respondents, most of whom were young. This research is expected to speed up the tourism recovery as well as to contribute to the sustainability of archaeological heritage as special interest tourist destination in Gianyar regency in particular and Indonesia in general.
