Abstract

In Nusa Tenggara Barat province, on May 04, 2020, there were 275 cases out of 11,587 total cases in Indonesia. COVID19 not only has an impact on physical health issues, but it also impacts on psychological issues. One of the psychological issues is how society experiences negative emotion (e.g., depression) during the spread of COVID-19. This study aimed to explore the telecounseling process on the individual who had experienced negative emotion especially in the case of depressive disorder in the COVID-19 Nusa Tenggara Barat province. This study used a single-case research design approach, and the collected data were analyzed qualitatively. The results showed that the participant reported everything she felt and thought about in stage I. Next, in stage II, the participant analyzed what she thought and wished. The statements of having suicidal thoughts, having negative emotions (e.g., feeling sad) and not being interested in any activities indicated that the participant experienced severe depression (BDI-II). Stage III took the form of a strategy of how the participant realized her goals. Through the telecounseling process, the participant understood the goals and strategies to achieve them amid COVID-19.

Abstract

Abstract

After individuals made an effort to live with COVID-19, the world declared that the disease was now an endemic rather than a pandemic. Numerous things are affected by this, especially education. Students in schools are permitted to participate in instructional and learning activities. However, this modification to the educational system also affected how motivated students were to learn. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to describe the motivation of students to learn. This study used a descriptive quantitative design involving (N = 128). The findings revealed that students' levels of learning motivation fell into two categories, i.e., medium (N = 96.75%) and high (N = 32.25%) with (M = 2.84; SD = 0.276). According to a descriptive analysis, VII students had the highest levels of learning motivation, followed by VIII and IX students; and IX students is with the lowest levels. With regard to self-efficacy, intrinsic values, test anxiety, cognitive strategy utilization, and self-regulation, VII students score best on the subscale. The research findings provide teachers and school psychologists with a foundation for reference as they create educational intervention modules and programs for students in grades VIII and IX to boost their motivation for learning.

Abstract

The environment in Islamic boarding schools makes students feel closer to their peers. When students have closeness with peers, they will feel good emotional attachment and affect their self-esteem. This study aims to determine the effect of peer-attachment on students' self-esteem. This study used a correlational quantitative approach. The participants were 174 students aged 12-19 years from Islamic boarding schools in the city of Palembang, obtained through a purposive sampling technique. Data analysis used a simple linear regression technique. This study found that peer-attachment affects self-esteem by ∆R2 = 3.96%. Abstract

Year to year, the suicide rate among academics in Nusa Tenggara Barat Province has risen because of various factors. Suicidal behavior results from suicidal ideation, which is triggered by negative emotions that cause psychological stress, such as depression. On the other hand, numerous previous studies found a contribution of happiness and depression to suicidal ideation. Hence, this study examined the significance of the role of happiness in moderating the effect of depression on suicidal ideation. Further, this was a survey study on academics in Nusa Tenggara Barat Province (n = 182). Moderator analysis was applied in this study using the PROCESS Macro version 3.0 installed in the IBM SPSS 23.00. The study’s findings have shown that happiness significantly moderates the effect of depression on suicidal ideation. The happier the person is, the lesser the depression impacts suicidal ideation. Moreover, these findings suggest that clinical psychologists working with academic clients should pay attention to increasing happiness as a resource for psychological interventions to reduce the severity of depression’s effect on suicidal ideation.

Abstract

Academic adjustment is a critical experience for university students in an educational setting. Students' ability to adjust with academic pressures will determine their level of success in reaching educational goals and academic development. As a result, it is critical to comprehend the psychological aspects that can influence a student's academic adjustment. This study examined the influence of internal locus of control and academic self-efficacy on academic adjustment among students at the Faculty of Psychology UIN Raden Fatah Palembang. This study involved (n=228) students selected using simple random sampling. The data was analyzed with IBM SPSS version 26 and Mplus version 7. Internal locus of control and academic self-efficacy significantly contribute to academic adjustment (R2 = 0.975). The increase in one point on internal locus of control and academic self-efficacy will impact academic adjustment. To improve students' academic adjustment, universities, especially academic departments, should focus on student locus of control and academic self-efficacy. They can approach learning problems better equipped and achieve their academic goals if they improve their internal locus of control and academic self-efficacy.

Abstract

During the COVID-19 period, pupils in primary schools have encountered various learning challenges. In Indonesia, this occurs in every primary school. This study intends to lighten the psychological aspect of distance learning challenges. This study employs a mixed-method methodology by integrating qualitative research, a case study technique, and quantitative description (n=414). Researchers looked at three primary school models in South Sumatra and Special Region of Yogyakarta: Model A, which used technology-based online learning; Model B, which integrated online and offline learning; and Model C, which only used WhatsApp group-based offline learning. Focus group discussions, observations, documentation, and interviews with teachers, parents, and students were all undertaken by the researchers. They also distributed open-ended and closed-ended questionnaires via Google Form. The interactive Miles, Huberman, and Saldana’s models were used to analyze data. The findings demonstrated that children in all three school models encountered similar learning challenges. Still, in Model C, the complexity of those challenges was more significant than in Model A and Model B. Learning challenges included issues with comprehending topics, struggling to solve the problems with completing tasks, and working with self-study. The lack of essential psychological needs, such as the ability to interact and actualize oneself, as well as the boredom or monotony of students when pursuing distance learning, are some of the causes of learning challenges. The findings of this study have consequences for teachers and psychologists, who should pay attention to children’s fundamental needs to improve learning motivation and academic progress in primary school pupils.

Abstract

Research suggests that post purchase regrets are associated with impulse buying. Therefore, this study aims to find out the relationship between impulse buying with post-purchase regrets in students. Sampling in this study is carried out with probability sampling with simple random sampling technique. The participant in this study was an active S1 student at the Islamic State University of Raden Fatah Palembang (n = 340). The data collected was correlated with Pearson Correlation Product Moment analysis techniques using Statistical Packages for Social Science (SPSS) version 23. The results showed that there is a significant positive relationship between impulse buying with post-purchase regret (rxy = 0.472 p = 0,000). This indicates that the higher impulse buying will follow the higher post purchase regret and vice versa. The findings gave the researchers the opportunity to subsequently provide interventions related to impulse buying in order to reduce the post purchase regret.
